I've just seen the trailer on BBC1 (I think it's the same as the above) and it looks excellent.

Thought Doctor Who was brilliant tonight, best story to feature the Sontarans in a while. This series hasn't been too bad and i think Jodi will go out on a high.

I've enjoyed the two episodes, the first time I've really enjoyed watching Doctor Who for a few years.

If you look at his previous TV trilogy series Broadchurch.
Series 1 was brilliant, gripping must see TV from start to that first series finale.
Series 2 was a huge disappointment. After starting well, it went flat from S2E2 losing all the tension, replacing it for misplaced energy and did not recover until the final episode, which delivered a bit of a FU to the audience with the trial outcome.
Series 3 was better. But the plot felt frequently OTT and convoluted. The respective episodes were patchy & erratic, with too much going on, you struggled to keep up with the plot, and more importantly care for the characters. The result being the conclusion to what actually happened was an emotional hot mess, lacking the emotional impact to what it could and should have provided. (I.E. It was no Life On Mars/Ashes To Ashes)
.....
Which brings up to Chibnall's 3 Series of Doctor Who:
(New) Doctor Who Series 11: After a promising opening episode; the Series quickly descended into the worst series of "Nu Who" since its 2005 reboot. Jodie Whittaker's Doctor felt like a miscast, not helped by several childish, poor quality episodes (with the odd exceptions: "Rosa"; "The Witchfinders"). Whilst the New Year's Day special with the Daleks felt gratuitous.
Doctor Who Series 12: After the two part opener Spyfall, with the destroyed Gallifrey, I was waivering on pulling the plug. After the terrible S12E3 "Orphan 55" I bailed on the show for the first time in my life. (Yes I still watched it from 1986-89 when it was frequently grim). With the Lockdown I went over & watched all the subsequent episodes "Fugitive of the Judoon" & "The Haunting of Villa Diodati" were rather good, despite the flaws of the writing, direction & cast. But the last two episodes were alarming in a bad way, as Chibnall rewriting Whovian history. Whilst again the Dalek NY Day special was underwhelming. So whilst it was an improvement on the previous mostly terrible series; it was nowhere near its previous recent heights. Whilst the "Timeless Child" concept seemed written purely to annoy & permanently alienate old Who fans (a bit like a new owner taking over Liverpool FC* and insisting their home kit is now all blue, not all red) who care about continuity & history.
* Scenario deliberate re: DWS13 Dan
Which brings us to
Doctor Who Series 13: Out of completely nowhere, the series I grew up with & loved is back. Mandip Gill and John Bishop as the Doctor's travelling companions, playing Yasmin Khan and Dan Lewis totally work, in the way Yasmin did not with the previous two companions. Whilst Jodie Whittaker is belatedly acting like the Doctor (Her revelation as a guest on Shaun Keaveny's The Line-Up podcast (Sep 21) that during lockdown she took out Britbox; and watched a whole bunch of old 20th Century Doctor Who episodes for the first time, says everything ...) should do. As for the first time she has a presence, and gravitas to her incarnation, as the Doctor should possess.
But the real revelation is the writing & directing is damn near perfect for this "Flux" series. From 10 minutes in to the opener "The Halloween Apocalypse" I was grinning, because I was confused, but captivated & engaged in the manner the very best episodes of Doctor Who do. That has continued across all 4 episodes so far with "Village of the Angels" being unquestionably Chibnall/Whittaker's best of their 3 Series run, and easily in the top five Nu Who episodes with the Weeping Angels being even more sinister than in "Blink", and utilized brilliantly. Swarm and Azure are gloriously chewing up the scenery and are the best new villains since the Weeping Angels; The Bel & Vinder storyline (are they going to be the Timeless Child's parents) is well woven into the plot.
It just leaves me miffed how has Chibnall has got S13 so perfect, after getting S11 & S12 so wrong previously.

Given Chibnall's success with Broadchurch (apart from S2), it may just be that Chibnall is better at writing a 6-part series than he is at one-offs. This series has given him a chance to develop a storyline properly rather than trying to do the whole thing in 45 minutes.

It was almost as if he didn't *dare* to make Doctor Who like that, even though it was the thing everyone expected from him. So strange!

I think they should just axe it to be honest. Why? Because you don't like it? Selfish doesn't begin to describe it. I don't why i said that of course i don't think they should axe it. That would be stupid. I'm loving the latest series.

Brilliant episode again this week, and i loved the cameo from a certain original series character whose voice could be heard on the phone.

Another great episode last night (Timeless Child storyline aside). The Grand Serpent invasion of UNIT bits were very good; & the Yaz, Dan and Professor Jericho travelogue bits offered welcome light relief. Whilst Williamson's change in tone, upon finally being understood by Yaz, was nicely done.
A couple of question I have from the episode is: Could The Grand Serpent be the latest incarnation of The Master? Could the black and white house flasbacks be a reference to Lungbarrow (which loops back to Old Doctor Who mythology)?
