One that I missed from the SPL: Rangers will seal their Europa League qualifying spot unless they lose and Hearts win.

Misconsiderations to Blackburn and Hartlepool , but well done to Newport seeing my other half is Welsh and supports Welsh football in the English leagues, apart from Cardiff!. I hope the chicken stranglers at Blackburn are however happy with themselves, back in 2011 I travelled with my boyfriend (one of our first ever trips together when we became an item), up to Blackburn when Swansea played them. The toxic atmosphere with the supporters and Venkys was rife, after the game (Swansea lost 4-2, but would stay up later in the season unlike Blackburn), we went back to the hotel and spent all night at the bar until 1am when it closed. At one point my boyfriend went outside for a cigarette, then came back in telling me he saw a Blackburn fan and ended up talking to him, saying "Thanks for letting Yakubu score a hat trick and beat you, Steve Kean now stays in a job longer!". They were a nice bunch of supporters wishing us all the best for the rest of the season, and arranged to meet up with us if we were to travel from Brighton for the home match against them. Can only imagine the sh*t they are all going through right now, a previously well-run local community club, ruined by stupidity and selling to the wrong people. By stupidity I mean sacking Alladyce, replacing him with the former Fulham assistant manager, then selling to chicken stranglers, everything has gone tits up ever since; they were well stabilised before then.

That's a bit like when we beat Sheff Wed and then Birmingham last season, and therefore kept Karel Fraeye for a few months instead of getting a proper manager in place having got rid of Guy Luzon. I guess our finishing mid-table in 2014-15 somehow made the owners think they were doing an ok job, having finished 18th in 2014. Bradford are already my 2nd club but I have even more reason to support them now..

This weekend... Premier LeagueMiddlesbrough need at least as good a result as Hull to avoid going down. Main problem is, Hull are at home to Sunderland and Boro are away to Chelsea... they'll also go down if they lose and Swansea win. After Swansea's win on Saturday, Middlesbrough will go down if they lose at Stamford Bridge tonight. Newcastle are Champions as Brighton were on the beach again... As expected, Fulham complete the play-off lineup. Birmingham, Forest and Blackburn all won, meaning that Blackburn become the latest misrun former Premier League club to drop into League One. They're the first former Premier League champion to sink to this level. Portsmouth won League Two on goal difference - after being 3rd on Saturday morning, they thrashed Cheltenham 6-1 to overtake Plymouth and Doncaster in style. Carlisle and Blackpool both won to complete the play-off places. Winning at the other St James' Park will be a psychological boost for Carlisle, who will be playing Exeter twice more for a place at Wembley. Hartlepool drop out of the football league, having bounced between levels 3 and 4 since 1921. Their best finish was 2nd in Division Three South in 1956-57.

Meanwhile, in Scotland... SPLInverness will be down if they lose and both Motherwell and Dundee win. Rangers will take part in the Europa League First Qualifying Round after confirming their top 4 finish yesterday. A good set of results for Inverness, who are now 4 points adrift with 3 games left - and the lay of fixtures means they can't be relegated this weekend. Ayr were relegated after losing at Raith, who must still face the play-offs after St Mirren drew at champions Hibs. Airdrie & Brechin got the results they needed to reach the play-offs. Peterhead won while Stenhousemuir could only draw, meaning the former team are in the play-offs while the latter go straight down. Arbroath are promoted despite only drawing, as Forfar imploded at home to Annan. Montrose take the final play-off spot after both teams drew. Cowdenbeath must beat East Kilbride over two legs to stay in the SFL, after results went against them on Saturday.

Given that Blackburn have dropped to the 3rd tier 22 seasons after being champions, I thought I'd list those that have done so during my lifetime and how long it took.
Derby County: 9 seasons. Champions in 1975, relegated to 3rd in 1984. Leeds United: 15 seasons. Champions in 1992, relegated to 3rd in 2007. Blackburn Rovers: 22 seasons. Champions in 1995, relegated to 3rd in 2017 Nottingham Forest: 27 seasons. Champions in 1978, relegated to 3rd in 2005 Manchester City: 30 seasons. Champions in 1968, relegated to 3rd in 1998
Going back to 1960, Burnley were champions, and relegated to the 3rd in 1980 so 20 seasons. They are the only one who went down to the 4th (in 1985)
One year before that, Wolves were champions in 1959. They were relegated to the 3rd in 1985, 26 seasons later, and went down to the 4th the year after that.

I note that (obviously excluding Blackburn), all of those teams got back to the 2nd tier, and Derby, City, Burnley and Wolves got back to the top flight, with City even buying a few PL trophies.

I hear Blackburn have debts of 100m, they look in REAL trouble, but I think Bolton seem to have come out of it with similar debts, so there is still hope for them.

The team on my list before that lot is Portsmouth, and in just 11 years, 1950-1961
That completes the "post world war ii" list.

Otherwise, they could take the title on Sunday if Spurs fail to achieve a better result at home to Man United. Hull will be relegated on Sunday if they lose and Swansea (playing on Saturday) win. Chelsea have regained the Premier League after a late winner from £33m signing Batshuayi - his second goal for the club. Hull have been relegated with a whimper, losing 4-0 at Palace. Congratulations to Forest Green, who have reached the Football League for the first time in their history! They were in the Conference National/NL Premier for 19 successive seasons, during which time they were reprieved from relegation twice due to the demise of other clubs. They won the play-offs at the third attempt. FC Halifax and Ebbsfleet are promoted to the National League Premier from the North and South respectively. St Johnstone qualified for the Europa League (first qualifying round), after they won and Hearts lost. Raith were relegated, losing on penalties after a 3-3 thriller at home to Brechin, but Peterhead progressed to their play-off final.

Halifax got promoted into the Conference/National, pleased with that, just a shame Forest Green beat Tranmere to get into the Football league for the first time. With a travelling support of 32... Another stat from the BBC article: "Their Gloucestershire home town of Nailsworth will be the smallest ever to host an EFL club next term, with a population of 5,794." That's smaller than our village, and our local team plays in the Thames Valley Division Four (level 15, or step 11)! They were relegated last season, but seem to have settled now - best results this season include 14-1 and 8-1 wins against The Hop Leaf (pretty sure that's actually a pub team), and scorelines of 12-1 and 8-3. The team doesn't even play in the village, though, after the council raised rent for the playing field

I think AFC Fylde may steal their title of being smallest place with a league ground, and the previous holder was Fleetwood, another team rising through the leagues, and before that Rushden & Diamonds before they went pop, wonder who it was before that?

I believe my home town of Poole lays claim to being the largest town never to have had a league team.
