Semi-finals: STUART BINGHAM 15-17 MARK SELBY KYREN WILSON 12-17 SHAUN MURPHY A great comeback by Murphy to reach his fourth final. He won 13 of the last 15 frames to win, having trailed 10-4. Selby edged out Bingham to reach his fifth final. For the first time in a Crucible semi-final, the players were unable to complete the final session on time and had to come back after Murphy had beaten Wilson. A close final so far which has seen a good standard, without anything spectacular. No century breaks so far - the last final that didn't feature one was the 1985 final when Dennis Taylor beat Steve Davis.

Mark Selby 10-7 Shaun Murphy
Murphy led 5-3 but Selby won seven of the nine frames this evening, including the last four. Again, nothing spectacular but keeping Murphy completely tied down with his safety play.

At the interval in session 3. Selby maintains his 3-frame lead, knocking in the first century of the final in frame 21.
I haven't seen as much of the tournament as I usually would as I've been back at work but I've enjoyed the BBC coverage this year. Great to see Alan McManus taking an increased role as there's no-one I'd rather hear talk about snooker right now. Also refreshing to hear Judd Trump and Jack Lisowski doing some commentary and analysis - both very articulate and offer a new perspective from younger players at the top of their game. Also nice to see Hazel Irvine back after her absence in recent months.

I'd agree about those three commentators - all very good. John Virgo, on the other hand, gets more irritating every year.
Did you see Hazel Irvine's interview with Shaun Murphy's family? How many times will their little boy be shown that as he grows up?

In almost every match, Virgo's commentary has come across like he has money on one of the players because he always sounds either absolutely delighted or slightly p*ssed off at the end.

That reminds me of the late Willie Thorne who I remember saying there were matches where he had had a bed on the outcome. Didn't know at the time but he did used to get annoyed.

The Final: MARK SELBY 18-15 SHAUN MURPHY Mark Selby wins his fourth world title after beating Shaun Murphy 18-15. The final seemed to get better as it went along with an incredibly high standard in the final session, which saw at least a break of 50 in every frame apart from the last. The second session was key with Selby managing to grind Murphy down and build an overnight lead, which Murphy was never able to claw back. Murphy never managed to win more than two frames in a row during the match. Selby ends the season at no.2 in the world, just £124,000 behind Judd Trump. Murphy is up to no.5. Selby becomes the fifth player to win four Crucible titles after Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

We've still never had a Crucible final that's finished 18-10. Other scorelines that have never occurred are 18-7, 18-4, 18-2, 18-1 and 18-0.
The last final to go to a deciding frame was the 2002 final, where Peter Ebdon beat Stephen Hendry. Three finals since then have finished 18-16 - most recently Mark Williams' win over John Higgins in 2018.
The last final to finish with a session to spare was Stephen Hendry's 18-5 win over Jimmy White in 1993.

Hendry only played two tournaments - the Welsh Open, where he lost in the 1st round, and the World Championship, where he beat Jimmy White in his opening qualifying match then lost in the next round.

I think Hendry's planning on giving it a proper go next season and playing in more tournaments. He's said his main aim is to qualify for the World Championship again.
As I previously said, I don't know when the next tournament is as next season's calendar hasn't been published yet.

You're right, the most recent Championship League was shown on FreeSports. Not sure if the coverage was shared with Eurosport but I know some of Eurosport's coverage is sometimes shown on Quest as well as the channels are owned by the same company.

How many times will their little boy be shown that as he grows up? I caught the tail end of that interview and thought it was brilliant. "He's got plenty of trophies already..."
I thought hearing Judd Trump doing pundit/comms was quite refreshing, especially on his insight of the players. Same again with Jack Lisowski, although his punditry could be improved but again it was insightful. Joe Perry should get a mention too.
Agree with Virgo - The "Where's the X ball going?" is getting tiresome.
I still think Rob Walker is a strange choice as commentator too.
