As a big McFly fan - that Queen cover is abysmal. I love Please Please though.
Never liked Smile, but loved the follow up LDN. The other two songs are fantastic.

Pussycat Dolls Featuring Busta Rhymes - Don't ChaDidn't like their first singles at all. Sugababes - Push The ButtonProbably, their most overrated song. Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The DancefloorVery nice tune, love the cover that Sugababes did. Madonna - Hung UpI know it's a very unpopular opinion, but I think this is one of her worst singles ever. Madonna - SorryThis one was also #1 on my chart. Great song, but not the best one from the album Nelly Furtado - ManeaterBrilliant comeback for Nelly, was #1 on my chart as well (like most of the singles from the album). Lily Allen - SmileVery decent debut and the album is one of the best from 2006!

Beyonce Featuring Jay-Z - Deja Vu I think I've said before that Beyonce is very hit and miss for me - this is closer to the latter though. Actually, I'd say it's somewhere in the middle, but it's definitely no 'Crazy In Love'. Jay-Z's rap offers little to the song, which is pretty generic noughties R&B. The chorus is the best part of the song, but it's average at best.

Justin Timberlake - Sexyback This features Timbaland, although he seems to be uncredited. I didn't think I liked this, but it's actually a lot better than I remembered. Maybe I thought it wasn't as good as 'Rock Your Body' (which is brilliant by the way) at the time, but now I'm not comparing it to anything I quite like it.

Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin' The Scissor Sisters were just brilliant - they managed to get that seventies disco sound but make it sound modern and fresh at the same time. This was the first single from their second album, which may not have been as inspired as the first, but this song is just a total banger and would probably still get most people off their feet if it were played at a disco or in a club.

Razorlight - America Another band who were brilliant for a while, I still think they're good now actually although I haven't listened to a whole album of theirs since their third one. I did prefer the singles 'Golden Touch' and 'Somewhere Else', which didn't reach #1, but this is still a really good song that was deserved of its chart topping status. My only complaint about it was that it was vastly overplayed on the radio at the time, but it's been a while since I last heard it so it sounds great again! It feels quite apt now too, with the elections coming up in America!

My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade I've noticed in general that the quality of the #1s has improved since downloads started to be included. This is just an epic track, and easily one of the best Emo songs I've heard - although admittedly it's not a genre that I've delved into too deeply! I like the way it changes it up as the song progresses, almost like a noughties 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Brilliant.

McFly - Star Girl I had no recollection of this at all from the title, but I can definitely remember it now it's playing. I can definitely say it's better than their last #1, the 'Don't Stop Me Now' cover, and it's just an upbeat, fun little pop song that makes me think I should listen to a bit of McFly more often.

Fedde Le Grand - Put Your Hands Up For Detroit It feels like ages since we've had a club dance anthem at #1 - although I did have quite a long break from doing this, so it may not be as long as I think! Anyway, this is one of those tracks that makes me wish I was off my face on something in a club! Nah, just joking - it is a bit of a banger though.

Westlife - The Rose Oh FFS, I spoke too soon with that comment about the quality of #1s improving, because this is an insult to one of the best voices of stage and screen - Miss Bette Midler. Her version (from the film of the same name where she plays a Janis Joplin type singer, addicted to drugs) is absolutely incredible, which I suppose is why I resent this version so much, but it really does lack the passion that is needed to carry the ballad off.

Akon Featuring Eminem - Smack That I had completely forgotten about this song, and wasn't expecting much when I put it on if I'm honest. However, I instantly realised that is is actually a very good R&B Hip-Hop track, and both artists' parts go well together. This is why I'm enjoying this thread, because it's getting me listening to songs that I wouldn't even think to listen to else. Yep, I really enjoyed that one.

Take That - Patience Ah yes, the comeback of the decade. It's hard to believe the boys had only been split up for ten years when they returned, and it's now been fourteen years since this... Stuff like that blows my mind haha! I can't pretend I've ever been a massive fan of Take That, but I can't deny they have done a few really, really great tracks - this being one of them. I probably prefer their ballads to their poppier stuff if I'm honest - although I think Gary lost it a bit when he went solo, which was probably why I wasn't expecting much from their comeback. I'm happy to admit I was wrong though, as this is great.

Other songs were Oasis - "The Impotance of Being Idle", Elvis Presley - "Wooden Heart", Beatles - "Lady Madonna" and I forgot the last track from her top 5.

Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This I hadn't realised there was only one left to go for 2006 so I might as well do it now, and we're in the Christmas #1 X-Factor winner's single territory again. Leona has always gone down as one of the most talented winners, and she gives her vocals a good work-out on this song. Presumably they couldn't be bothered to provide her with a new song as this one was recycled from American Idol, when Kelly Clarkson won a few years previously. The song itself is pretty unremarkable, but Leona does give it a touch of sparkle and I have to confess that I don't mind her version at all.

There are only 3 songs I wasn't keen on in 2006 so I've extended the best list!
Best 1. Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down 2. Shakira - Hips Don't Lie 3. Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin' 4. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy 5. My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade 6. Nelly Furtado - Maneater 7. Madonna - Sorry 8. Sandi Thom - I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker 9. Razorlight - America 10. Lily Allen - Smile
*That is quite possibly the best list so far this decade!*
Worst 1. Westlife - The Rose 2. Chico - It's Chico Time 3. McFly - Don't Stop Me Now

Patience is brilliant - a good example (for me like All Saints) when they are better on their comeback.
I was gutted however, when they took down the Diana Vickers version from YouTube of “have a nibble, pigeons”.

"Crazy" - very annoying song and my second least favourite UK # 1 from 2000s decade, only higher than "Killing In The Name". 😮 Two of my absolute all time favourite number ones!
