Owl City - Fireflies A 3 week-er #1 now, and I must admit I was quite indifferent to this song at the time - but like many others it sounds much better in retrospect. I can't remember what else they did but this is really doing it for me at this moment in time.

Helping Haiti - Everybody Hurts Hmmm, this was one of those Simon Cowell all-star charity record efforts. Really it was just a fast way of making money for the Haiti earthquake victims, but you have to think that if Band Aid could quickly produce a good new song then why couldn't Simon Cowell. It doesn't actually sound bad, but it doesn't get to me like the R.E.M. original.

Jason Derulo - In My Head Oh this is another that I didn't think I remembered until the song started! It's a fact that I know more Jason Derulo records than I think I do - although that is true of a lot of these new fangled artists hehe. Yeah, again I actually find myself bopping along to this one like it's an old friend come back to visit. I stand by my belief that most music sounds better years later.

Tinie Tempah - Pass Out Well this is one I definitely remember - it's just an absolute classic of the era. Fusing Hip Hop with Drum and Bass, this was produced and featured uncredited vocals by Labyrinth, whose 'Earthquake' song usually followed this on any party playlists I made at the time! Still sounds fresh to this day.

Lady Gaga Featuring Beyonce - Telephone I actually used to have this as my ringtone! One of the new tunes on Gaga's 'Fame Monster' album repackage, all of which were single-worthy, this was catchy as hell and yet another winner for the best new pop star of the moment. Beyonce featured on this, but I don't really associate it with heras much.

Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song The first few bars of this song sound like a Keane song! I must admit that I always think of Scouting For Girls as one of those annoying bands, purely because of the overplay on the radio of songs like 'She's so lovely' and 'Elvis ain't dead', but that's probably unfair of me because they are still pretty good songs even if I never feel the desire to play them anymore.
Back to this song though, and this is far less irritating to my ears than those previously mentioned hits. In fact I think it's rather good, and I could quite happily listen to it again if I had to.

Usher Featuring will.i.am - OMG We've definitely reached the text talk phase now, with titles like OMG (I still get confused by a lot of the latest ones!). This is a far cry from the smooth R'n'B of Usher's early singles and is a full-on club hit! It's hard not to like it really, even though will.i.am's input takes it almost into 'I Gotta Feeling' territory.

Diana Vickers - Once It's hard to believe it was so long ago that a young Diana Vickers was competing in the X-Factor, in a golden year that also included Alexandra Burke, JLS and Eoghan Quinn (well the first 2 anyway!). When this jaunty little number came out you could be forgiven for thinking we had the next Natalie Imbruglia on our hands, as it is actually a great little tune. She had a great voice too, that made her stand out from the usual talent show fodder, so it's a shame she didn't seem to do much else after this.

Roll Deep - Good Times Featuring the vocals of Jodie Connor, this is another of those that makes you go "Oh yeah, that one" when it comes on! I mean, it's hardly top quality but it's catchy - and it makes you move, which is what it's designed to do, so job done.

It was the last UK # 1, which I like.

B.o.B. Featuring Bruno Mars - Nothin' On You A debut hit by 2 acts here, and I think it's fair to say that Bruno Mars went on to become the more successful of the pair. I haven't heard this in ages and it has to be said that it's hitting the spot on this quiet Saturday evening. You can tell the Bruno Mars parts a mile off, and it's definitely his smooth laid back vocals that make the song.

When Nothin' On You was released I was so excited by Bruno (he featured on Billionaire by Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes fame not long after which cemented my appreciation). It's funny how quickly an artist can start to give you the 'ick'.
