Madonna - Sorry This was a second #1 disco stomper in a row for Madge, which meant the Queen of Pop was well and truly back! At the time I loved this even more than 'Hung Up', but I don't think this one has aged quite as well so I'd say I prefer 'Hung Up' now. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great tune but it doesn't get me going as much as it once did. Let's just say it's gone from a 10 to an 8.

Sorry was the start of my downfall in Haven Factor, so I don't like it quite as much as I used to!

Chico - It's Chico Time Oh God I can remember when he first performed this on the X-Factor and I actually thought it was quite good! I had completely forgotten it got to #1 though, and it really hasn't aged well at all I have to say. In fact it sounds absolutely horrific now and I feel quite embarrassed listening to it!

Orson - No Tomorrow Another one I had completely forgotten existed, but as soon as it came on it just seemed like yesterday I last heard it! They were an unknown band at the time, and I expect they're still largely unknown - despite having a couple more hits. This is really good though, and I can see why it climbed to #1. Unlike the Chico one I'm glad I rediscovered this!

When I saw it on the X-Factor it was more of "He's taking the p*ss out of the competition, good for him". That didn't mean he had to actually release it as a single though.

I think this holds the record for the lowest sales ever for a #1 single (i.e. on the week it was #1)

Chico - ugh.
Orson - the album is actually really solid, but No Tomorrow is definitely the standout.

Ne-Yo - So Sick This one climbed from #18 - was this the time when downloads were first allowed in the charts? I can't remember, but I think originally they were only included from the song's second week on the charts for some mysterious reason. Anyway, this is an R&B ballad where Ne-Yo claims he's 'so sick of love songs' in a love song of sorts! It's quite a good song though and very catchy.

Gnarls Barkley - Crazy Oh now this is something of a classic, isn't it. I remember this as being the first song to reach #1 on downloads alone so maybe I was wrong on the last post. So good it stayed there for nine weeks - which was massive when you consider all of those one week chart toppers at the start of the noughties. Singer CeeLo Green has such a powerful and distinct voice that is perfect for this type of funky R&B type song and it has aged really well too - I could see this being a hit today.

I think songs were allowed to chart on downloads only from the week before the physical came out? Hence a lot of songs jumped to their peak on week 2.
Plus there was the nonsense that if the physical was deleted from sale then the downloads would stop counting after two weeks, which meant songs like Crazy vanished from the chart after being in the Top 10.

Sandi Thom - I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) I couldn't believe how many people missed the point of this song at the time - She knows punk rockers didn't have flowers in their hair, it was about wishing there could be another music revolution - which is even more relevant today! This was a bit of a marmite song but I loved it then and I still love it now. In fact I bought her first two albums and they have both full of fantastic songs. It's just a shame this is all she will be remembered for.

I actually bought the Sandi Thom single - unfortunately I now can't hear anything other than 'prawn cracker' but it's still a great song with an unfair reputation.
And I have never understood why Crazy is so popular, and probably never will. I find it so incredibly grating and screechy.

"Crazy" - very annoying song and my second least favourite UK # 1 from 2000s decade, only higher than "Killing In The Name".

Nelly Furtado - Maneater Doing this reminds me of some of the artists that I used to love back in the day, but for some reason don't listen to much anymore. Nelly Furtado is one such artist and I already owned her first 2 albums when she crashed back onto the scene with this, her first #1 single. This was worlds away from the folky pop sound of her previous stuff, but it was just impossible not to love. It's the sort of thing Christina Aguilera should have come back with after the Dirrty/Beautiful era.

Shakira Featuring Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie See, I could almost have been talking about this song in that last review because Shakira was another artist that I absolutely loved at the time. Why did I stop listening to these artists? I can't even answer that question - I think the sheer volume of music in my collection just got to much for me to keep up with every artist! This is another dancefloor jam though, and I even like the Wyclef Jean bits. It's just impossible not to try and dance to!

Lily Allen - Smile And here we go again! Lily Allen is another artists who I used to buy every album when it came out. I think I started to find her political rants a bit tiresome though, but I still think her early music was a breath of fresh air at the time - I mean this is just the perfect summer record isn't it? It's got that reggae beat going on in the background, and Lily's unique lyrical style to make you 'smile'. Does what it says on the tin really.

McFly - Don't Stop Me Now/Please Please OK so this was for Sport Relief so I suppose I can forgive the boys taking on one of Queen's greatest anthems, but 'Don't Stop Me Now' just lacks the oomph of Freddie's original vocal. The fact that Queen's version only made #9 makes it even more ridiculous really, but I'm sure the original has gone on to sell more in the long run. It's not terrible, but not something I would ever seek out to listen to over the original. I'm afraid I can't remember 'Please Please' at all, and I didn't even realise it was a double A-side at the time. It sounds like a bit of a grower, and the 'Please Please' bit in the chorus reminds me a bit of Slade. The song itself isn't really anything special though and I don't think it would have got to #1 on its own.
