The 2019/20 Champions League and Europa League may still be in progress, but it won't be long at all before 2020/21 is upon us, and indeed we already have our first British casualty in European competition in 2020/21, as Linfield were knocked out of the Champions League (and into the Europa League) last night. In England, the draws for the first round of the League Cup and the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup were made yesterday, and the FA website has a nice overview of the 20 teams entering the FA Cup for the first time this year, including Hashtag United FC and New Salamis FC. Premier League and EFL fixtures will also be released this week.

Good to see some community clubs in that list of newcomers as well as two clubs well over 100 years old.

Fa trophy and youth fa cup were drawn too yesterday.
I'm waiting to hear when I can use my season ticket at Dereham town. They should be allowed to let fans in for games from the season start.

It's expected the FA will make a statement, possibly today, confirming clubs playing at the 7th tier or lower will be allowed to let fans attend matches as anything below the 6th tier isn't classed as "elite sport" by the government. It's likely clubs will still have to adhere to particular social distancing requirements, though it's not clear what or how this will be enforced.

I've avoided the temptation to do a bunch of jokes over events on the holiday island immortalised on the Fleet Foxes best song.
So I'll just leave this Ashley Cole quote from today:
Raheem Sterling buying his mum a house got more bad press than Harry Maguire for verbally abusing and punching a police officer in Mykonos.

Harry Maguire found guilty of aggravated assault, repeated attempts at bribery and resisting arrest, silly boy

As a Liverpool fan, here's a tip for Manchester United & England national football teams when next season starts.
Forget about doing T-Shirts proclaiming your player's innocence, it only makes you look like an embarrassment opening yourselves to ridicule & scorn.
Considering Harry Maguire has been called up by Gareth Southgate's England squad for next month's Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark. Then I guess scratching the eye of a team mate is a much bigger crime than being found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against public employees (the Police) and insult after his arrest in a foreign country.

Be interesting to see if he is now dropped from the England squad after being found guilty, he's one of my favourite England players but not sure how he can stay in.

Discovered yesterday that he went to the nearest school to me when I lived in Maidenhead! Name rung a bell and thought it was from Championship Manager but actually he's best known to me for playing for Gillingham when they were in the Championship in the early-mid 2000s!

What a game to start the season.
Leeds Koch was almost too much for Liverpool to handle.

Shame the ref and VAR got it wrong for the handball for the 1st goal. Glad somebody else noticed! people seem to be glossing over the fact Liverpool got handed another wrong VAR decision that lead directly to a goal

Shame the ref and VAR got it wrong for the handball for the 1st goal. I can never tell now with ball-to-arm incidents. The ball definitely hit the defender's arm, the question is whether it was deliberate and or whether the arm was in an unnatural position to "make himself big".
