As explained in my other thread, I am going to wait until the end of Time Machine before I continue doing the #1s so to keep me entertained until then I'm going to be doing the #2s, starting with the first week of 2000...

S Club 7 - Two In A Million/You're My Number One And so we start with a double A-side - It feels weird going back to this type of pop when it's been mostly R&B based pop that was getting to #1 by the end of the decade. Anyway, here we are and 'Two In A Million' is pretty standard pop balladry really for the era - that's not to say I don't like it, because it does have a certain charm to it and is quite pleasant really - but that's it. 'You're My Number One' is more poppier and probably the slightly better song of the two. It's got a bit of a seventies vibe going on too.

Oh this might be even better than the #1's, there's loads I've probably forgotten about.
I agree that You're My Number One is definitely the better of the two. There isn't enough cheese in the charts nowadays.

The Artful Dodger Featuring Craig David - Re-Rewind The Crowd Say Bo Selecta
This had already been at #2 towards the end of 1999 but climbed back there again after the post-Christmas clearout, which forgot to sweep Westlife out of the #1 spot! It was the song which inpired a TV comedy series, and the song which introduced us to Craig David - I'd say it's probably the best song he ever did actually. I admit I wasn't overly mad on this at the time, but I have grown to appreciate this type of garage over the years and I'm 'lovin' it, lovin' it, lovin' it' now!

Donell Jones - U Know What's Up Ooh, I didn't have to wait long for the first one to come up that I'd completely forgotten about! I've no idea what else Donell Jones did but I do remember really being into this at the time - it's just that slinky, sexy sort of R&B that was popular in the 90s too and the song has lost none of its appeal. This one is a real welcome re-find.

Sash! - Adelante You could go for a good hour or so in a club with just Sash! hits playing and not want to sit down once! He really did have a remarkable run from 1997 to the start of the noughties, and each single he brought out was different from the last and appealing in its own way. 'Adelante' is no exception, and you don't want to stop dancing from the second it starts until the very end of the track.

In 2000, two of my #1s peaked at #48 in the UK chart, one at #47 and one at #49

Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson - Movin' Too Fast Unlike Craig David from the last Artful Dodger single, Romina Johnson didn't go on to become a household name. It's a shame because I really like her voice on this, which is definitely one of my very favourite garage songs from the era. The song sounds quite laid back, but at the same time as being a real dance banger!

Blink-182 - All The Small Things Interesting single cover! I'm not sure what the official title for this type of music is - is it Skater Rock? or Punk Pop? Anyway, whatever, Blink-182 were one of several bands around this time of this style and this song was definitely up there with the best of the genre. It's such a brilliant tune, and with a killer chorus - it definitely should have been #1 over Geri Halliwell's 'Bag It Up'!

Moloko - The Time Is Now Moloko were only around for a short time but they certainly made a bit of an impact. Roisin Murphy is one of those singers who has such a brilliant and unique voice that I'm quite ashamed that I haven't bothered to delve very far into her discography. Their previous single 'Sing It Back' was more of a pure dance single, but this one is more of a trippier alternate affair and has more layers, making it far more appealing to my ears. I just think it's a really good track that I should have taken more time to appreciate before now.

Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers Oh yes - this is another massive garage anthem that is nothing but welcome on this otherwise cold wet miserable Friday evening! I'm sure this has been used on a recent single too, I seem to remember hearing it on the radio a couple of times recently. What can I say, it's just an absolute classic dance hit that never gets old!

S Club 7 - Reach
Well I've said before that you should never feel guilty for loving any song, and I really don't for loving this one! It just makes me feel so happy and positive so what's not to love - and why should all music have to be serious anyway? This is by far my favourite S Club 7 song, and I know it's cheesy but it's also insanely catchy and anthemic. You'll never stop me from loving this!

I loved S Club 7, but they went in one album too deep, and the fall out since (other than the excellent Rachel Stevens “Come And Get It” album) has been slightly embarrassing and undignified. Paul selling his Brit award on eBay and got ghosted by a fake bid was very - although Hannah was a fan of my brother when he dj’ed.

9 memorable number 2's in a row! Adelante probably being the best, followed by The time is now.

(other than the excellent Rachel Stevens “Come And Get It” album) Could not agree more. Something went very wrong with that era.

Technically, it is featuring Lisa Left Eye Lopes, I am surprised she is not credited.
