Manic Street Preachers - Empty Souls I wasn't expecting to hear another Manics song so soon, and I'm afraid I don't even remember this one. I am quite liking it, but it's nowhere near the same league as some of their earlier singles which didn't reach anywhere near the top end of the charts.

Elvis Presley - A Fool Such As I This was part of the Elvis #1 re-issue series, which I thought was a double A-side with 'Need Your Love Tonight', but it isn't listed as such so I'll just listen to the one song. There's not much to say anyway really, it's one of Elvis's standards that is so well-known it's impossible not to like. The song was actually first released in 1952 by Hank Snow.

A Fool Such As I was not originally Elvis's song, but I Need Your Love Tonight was - it was on the CD too and in 1959 was Elvis's 7th and final number one of the 1950s, A Fool Such As I charted separately and peaked only at #8.

Ashanti - Only U I never really got into Ashanti, I always found her brand of R&B a bit too generic and (dare I say it) boring. This was her biggest solo UK hit, but it's not really screaming anything out at me. Sorry if she has any fans on here, but I just find it very average.

Elvis Presley - Are You Lonesome Tonight? This one was actually written in 1926, so was already 34 years old when Elvis recorded it in 1960. I can't really slag off Elvis, because I love him, but I've never been overly keen on the spoken bit in the middle of this song, even though I do like it overall.

Elvis Presley - Wooden Heart Elvis again. This one was originally #1 for 6 weeks in 1961, and reached #2 on re-release in 2005. Again, it's good - it's Elvis though innit!

Elvis Presley - Surrender So it's three in a row from the King of Rock 'n' Roll, which feels weird in 2005 but it was part of a singles box-set where you bought one each week until you had the whole collection - I feel they should do that nowadays with some of the old classic artists, it's a nice little collection to have. 'Surrender' was #1 in 1961 also, and may not be one of his most played songs now but it's still a good 'un.

Elvis Presley - Good Luck Charm After a couple of singles which stalled at #3, Elvis is back in the runner-up spot with one of his most appealing singles in my book. This was #1 in 1962 and was one of the ones I wasn't familiar with on its re-release in 2005 but fell in love with it instantly. It's just two and a half minutes of endearing, melodic brilliance.

Mario - Let Me Love You American singer Mario had little that separated him from other R&B singers of the noughties, even though this was quite an endearing ballad it lacked that certain something that made him stand out from the crowd. It's not bad if I'm honest, but he just sounds like a poor man's Usher.

Don’t forget Jason Donovan nailed it too on his GH album. (He didn’t - it was awful)

Elvis Presley - (You're The) Devil In Disguise
Back to Elvis again now, and this classic is from 1963. I have nothing but good things to say about this one because it is just perfection from the second the song starts - and then it builds up to that rousing chorus and I defy anyone not to like it. Definitely one of his best - and he did a lot of good ones!

One of the B-sides on Wooden Heart was the wonderful "Tonight Is So Right For Love", in fact I bought the entire collection but it was some of the B-sides that I was more fascinated by.
That song sampled a waltz by Offenbach. A 1969 single by Donald Peers also sampled that waltz, but I think due to some copyright clearance issue they made another similar version based on a Strauss waltz that was not nearly as good so by 2005 Offenbach no longer had a copyright on it and it was released in the UK for the first time.
So, from G.I. Blues, but in 2005, Elvis Presley got what has now become officially his 16th NM #1.

In 2006 year we got the same Michael Jackson collection. Twelve his hits reached top 20 again, but the sales level was higher (thanks to downloads) than in the previous year, that's why chart results were much weaker than Elvis had in 2005. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visionary:_The_Video_Singles

I wish I had bought the Elvis ones too because they do look nice.

Beatles, ABBA and maybe Madonna deserved to have the similar collections of hits.

Still remember when they had him in on the Radio 1 chart show, obviously expecting him to be #1 - lots of awkward well done's when he was beaten by Tony Christie!

Elvis Presley - Crying In The Chapel We're still with the Elvis re-issues, and one of Elvis's more gospelly hits. This was a 1965 #1 for him originally, but the song dates back to 1953. It's quite an endearing ballad, and yet another triumph for the undisputed king.
