The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now Now we're into absolute classic territory, because this blows the other songs I've just reviewed out of the water! Pete Doherty may have been a troubled character but he certainly knew how to write a tune (I speak about him in the past tense because I have no idea what his situation is right now), and this is just absolutely majestic. Shoot me down for saying it, but I'd take this over anything Morrissey wrote (with the possible exception of 'This Charming Man', but I think I may even prefer this over that).... Let's ignore the fact that this masterpiece was kept off the top spot by 'Baby Cakes' though!

JoJo - Leave (Get Out) Another contender for a 'Where are they now' type show, JoJo actually sounds a lot older and more mature than her 13 years on this debut hit single of hers. It's actually a pretty good pop song if I'm honest, and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I was expecting.

Girls Aloud - Love Machine Well this is certainly a lot more memorable than their last one - although I think I remember it more because it was (I think) the second song that Tiffany sang on the TV show 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' (and she won her show!). The song is hardly a classic, but it was good enough for them at the time, and it's a pretty good, fun pop tune that somehow gets under your skin.

Ronan Keating - I Hope You Dance Not to this!! On checking Wikipedia I find out (shock, horror) that this is yet another cover of a country ballad - this time for Lee Ann Womack, just 4 years earlier in 2000. I haven't heard the original, but this is just another blandfest that he does no justice to at all.

Great pop song! In fact there are loads this year that have been mentioned that I love - Milkshake, The Show, Trick Me - reallly good year for me for pop.

Best UK # 2 singles (2002) : 1. Britney Spears - I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman 2. Cheeky Girls - Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) 3. Oasis - Stop Crying Your Heart Out 4. S Club 7 - You 5. A1 - Caught In The Middle
Sadly Oasis and S Club 7 didn’t reach # 1 with their best singles.
Worst UK # 2 singles (2002) : 1. Liberty X - Got To Have Your Love 2. Ali G and Shaggy - Me Julie 3. Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You
Another very good year for UK # 2s.

Best UK # 2 singles (2003) : 1. Sinead Quinn - I Can’t Break Down 2. Girls Aloud - No Good Advice 3. Dido - White Flag 4. Kym Marsh - Cry 5. Fast Food Rockers - Fast Food Song “I Can’t Break Down” hold the deserved place in my all-time top 5 songs. Maybe it’s the best year for UK # 2s. Four from them became number ones in my chart.
Worst UK # 2 singles (2003) : 1. Electric Six - Danger! High Voltage 2. Lisa Maffia - All Over 3. Mis-Teeq - Scandalous 4. Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love 5. Lumidee - Never Gonna Leave You

Duncan James & Keedie - I Believe My Heart So, this was the first 'solo' single by Blue singer Duncan James, released as a duet with classical singer Keedie, and produced by Andrew lloyd Webber for the musical 'The Woman In White'. All of that sounds much more impressive than the song itself, which has little to make it stand out from a hundred other songs of the same ilk. I'm surprised this even made it to #2 to be honest because it fails to really draw the listener in for the enitre 4 minutes its on.

Manic Street Preachers - The Love Of Richard Nixon This was something of a comeback single for the Manics I think, after being quiet for a few years, and has quite an electro sound for them - with less guitars to be heard. The song itself isn't bad, but they have done a lot better - before and after, although it does feel a while since we've had an indie rock song at #2 so it is welcome to hear. To sum up, I'd say it's pretty good but not that memorable.

Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath This was typical R&B fare for Destiny's Child, so I was a bit surprised that it spent 4 whole weeks at #2, but on the other hand Beyoncé had become massive in her own right, and Kelly Rowland had been successful as a solo singer too, so any comeback as a group was bound to be met with positivity. It's a pretty good R&B track anyway, although I do think it sounds better from not having heard it in a while.

Ice Cube Featuring Mack 10 & Ms Toi - You Can Do It I must admit this kind of rap wasn't really my cup of tea at the time, but this is one of the songs of that genre that I do remember. When I listen to it now I realise that it's so much better than the mumbly rap we get these days and I do kind of like it.

Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You I think I'm more into Kylie right now than I have ever been, due to the release of her fabulous 'Disco' album. This is a brilliant trancey pop song that was released to promote her 'Ultimate Kylie' album, and has gone on to become one of her biggest dancefloor anthems. It's another great tune that would sit well on her latest album!

I Believe My Heart really has all the hallmarks of a good ALW song, but really falls into nothing because the vocals don’t compliment. I bought it because I fancied Duncan James at the time, and was 99p in Woolworths.

I Believe In You and Lose My Breath are both completely brilliant pop songs robbed of a #1 spot.

It's a weird thing that about the same time there were two singers of that age called Kaci and JoJo, but they weren't KC and Jojo.

K-Ci and JoJo originally half of Jodeci which two sets of brothers, with the De being the other two (Degrate) thus Jo-De-Ci and they were Cedric (Ci) and Joel (Jo) Halley.
The JoJos could go onto the list of "same name different artist" but the K-Ci and KC were spelt differently

Britney Spears Featuring Madonna - Me Against The Music Great song and great music video.
Girls Aloud - Jump Had no idea this was a cover until very recently (when I was doing a video of best selling girl band singles in UK). Shame on me. I love both versions equally.
Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up First BYP song that made top 3 on my chart and was played in every club I went. I like this one.
Kelis - Milkshake Not my favourite one from Kelis.
Jamelia - Thank you Great song with a meaningful message. Love it.
Christina Milian - Dip It Low This one is a great r'n'b song. If I'm honest I like all of her singles, except AM to PM.
Kelis - Trick Me Now this is a SONG! Definitely an improvement.
Rachel Stevens - Some Girls Geri Halliwell really wanted this song, but it went to Rachel. One of the finest #2's from that year.
Girls Aloud - Love Machine Love how these girls evolve. Every single is different.
Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You One of my all time favourites from Kylie.

Ronan Keating Featuring Yusuf - Father And Son Yusuf is Cat Stevens of course, who wrote and recorded the original version of the song. I'll admit I did like Boyzone's version, but that is probably because it was the first one I knew - Cat Stevens' original is obviously the best. I'm not really sure what the point was to this remake with both the singers, but it's probably a version too many in my book. It's sung well enough but offers very little new to the song. My advice to anybody just discovering the song is to just stick with the original.
