76 Temples - Exotico
The fourth album from the UK psychedelic rock band, and you know what you are getting. They are our Tame Impala and this is probably their most Tame Impala sounding record, of course that is no bad thing. Maybe not their best record but Temples are very reliable. The record did not chart though. 3.5/5

79 Black Honey - A Fistful of Peaches
The third album from the British UK indie rock band. I was not sold on this at first, the lead single 'Charlie Bronson' I found a bit annoying but the next singles were all great and I actually like 'Charlie Bronson' now after playing it again as part of the album, it really does kick. Biggest hit album on the list so far it reached #6 in the UK. 3.5/5 Lower than I expected! I really liked this one though I have to admit I forgot about it until their appearance in HF. 'Heavy' is my favourite of the singles.

75 Metallica - 72 SeasonsThe problem with these lists is you often just compare albums with others on the list, when you start to compare them with the other albums by that act and where they placed then things get more complicated. Now more so than the eleventh album from Metallica. I think I have got it about right. There is no way this album is as great as albums two to five, but it is better than their debut album and it could well be their best since 'The Black Album'. It is better than 'St Anger' and 'Death Magnetic' which would probably both make the top 100 in their respective years, the reset no chance. It was anyway a huge return to form and a chart topper all over the world and #2 in the US. But I couldn't give it 4 stars. 3.5/5

74 Enter Shikari - A Kiss for the Whole World
The seventh album from the English rock band, who I was very late to getting into. Yes I have been charting them since 2006 but it wasn't until 'Live Outside' and 'The Spark' album where I really started to love them. That single is probably even more relevant now and 2024 with two major elections and everything else going on, I really do want to 'Live Outside' of it all. But anyway back to the new record and it is really a return to their more frenetic electronic sound of their early albums but still some of the pop rock of their recent album. I am not such a fan of it really, some tracks are a bit annoying or easily ignored. But I guess it brought back old fans as this album reached #1 in the UK. 3.5/5

73 White Reaper - Asking for a Ride
The fourth album from the US garage punk band, another band I have charted stuff by but never really paid that much attention to till this year. There is nothing very earth-shattering here, a couple of great singles, but it is pretty standard garage rock but it is a fun listen. 3.5/5

72 Dude Safari - YUSSUS
So obscure I had to add them to Rate Your Music myself. they are a grunge pop band from Surrey and they are probably the best UK band in that scene since Dinosaur Pile Up, they show a great deal of promise. Again nothing groundbreaking, just very well done and entertaining. 3.5/5

71 The National - Laugh Track
The better album of the two they released in 2023 and never expected it to be so much better. This is their tenth album and though The national to tend to be quite morose and mellow, I do prefer it when they have a bit of energy to their music and this does, much closer to the sound of their last essential album 'High Violet'. The record reached #24 in the UK. 3.5/5

70 Circa Waves - Never Going Under
The fifth album from the UK indie rock band and one of the first gems of 2023. It has dropped of a lot as the year went on, but you know what you are getting with Circa Waves one of the best modern day Brit Pop bands, this record starts with a load of bangers and then gets a bit mid, but you never get anything you don't like from them. The record reached #15 in the UK. 3.5/5

69 All Time Low - Tell Me I'm Alive
The ninth album from the US rock/pop punk band. This is a tricky one to rate as I don't care I love this band, I know they get a lot of stick. This is not one of their best records for sure and it is too long but there is still a lot I love on it. Unlike some bands in the genre, hello Waterparks they have not dropped of completely, they still are making superb music, just they have been better. The record reached #12 in the UK and didn't chart in the US which is mad. 3.5/5 (but on the verge of a 4)

68 Chappaqua Wrestling - Plus Ultra
A very welcome return from the Manchester indie band, this is their second album and it totally picks up where they left off, so many potential indie anthems, the first half of this record is so good. The last 3 tracks are a bit meh which stops this being a top 50 contender. 4/5

67 Teenage Fanclub - Nothing Lasts Forever
The twelfth album from the Scottish indie rock band. I must admit I am a bit of lapsed fan, I don't think they have made much of note for the last fifteen years, although they are still an awesome band live. This though is a real return to form for me, they feel like they care more, there is more emotional and it has that feel of one of my favourite records in their catalogue 'Songs From Northern Britain'. I am glad they can still make an album I enjoy as I did love them so much in the 90s. The record reached #30 in the UK. 4/5

66 Alison Goldfrapp - The Love Invention
Let's freshen things up after so much indie rock. The debut album from Alison Goldfrapp is just as good as I hoped it would be. Yes Goldfrapp the band, have made better records but this is no way a disappointment. This is dance music through and through, she could have done so many things but I think this was a great direction as disco has always been around about their sound. There is a couple of weak tracks but it flres along so fast and is so well-made, it doesn't matter and the remixes at the end are storming. She is such a pro. The record reached #6 in the UK. 4/5

65 OMD - Bauhaus Staircase
Was not expecting this to finish so high, although it probably has been helped by how much OMD I have listened to in 2023, 9 albums! What makes this album special is OMD have gone back to what made them great, and said goodbye to the pop era they have been in since McCluskey was the sole member. This is old school synth music and it even steals back sounds that have been revived by Public Service Broadcasting especially on "Anthropocene". Also it is insane to say but this is their highest charting album peaking #2 although of course with sales that are a small fraction of their first week 80s sales. Loved this and might go into my top 50 in the future. 4/5

64 Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
The fourth album from the ex-Chairlift singer and although I do still prefer her previous album, this one is not far off. A couple of track don't land with me but generally this is the same quirky alt pop we love her for especially lead single "Welcome to My Island". This is a first in this top 100, an album that charts in the UK and US, #23 in the UK and #87 in the US. 4/5

63 Holydanger - The Ethereal Beauty
The first of two rock bands from France. Formed in 2021 this emo rock band are totally new to me and this is their debut album. It was pretty instant love as it is just a brilliant example of the genre, so many great songs and it only has 8 tracks. A band to watch for sure. 4/5

62 As December Falls - Join the ClubThe third album from the pop punk band from Nottingham, who I think are just getting better and better. I know Paramore comparisons area bit lazy but this is really very 'Riot!' era. It is bouncy, emo tinged pop punk through and through and is just so infectious. 4/5

61 Can't Swim - Thanks But No Thanks
The fourth album from the post-hardcore, emo band from New Jersey. A band who I have been following since their very excellent debut. This is not as creative or special as that record but what it does really well. It is a mature emo rock band, with great vocals and hooks a plenty. Like many albums on my list, it won't change your life but why does everything have to, can't it just be enjoyable. 4/5

60 Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loveliest Time
The seventh album from the Canadian singer. Why do we love Carly? This was a question that many YouTubers have toyed with. Why is my top 40 not full of Taylor, Ariana or Miley. I think it is a few things, partly underdog syndrome, we love her as we think she is very underrated. Lots of people dismissed her early on and never discovered how good she got. Cuteness is a factor as well, she quite often has that indie girl look. But really the main thing is she doesn't take herself too seriously, it is all about the music and having a good time and that's what we all want. This album is not one of her best, it is a little samey but it is a total grower and doesn't really have any weak moments whcih considering this is really a 'B side album', pretty impressive. The album did not make the main album charts as it was weak on streaming but made #39 in the UK and #32 in the US sales chart. 4/5

59 Pool Kids - Pool Kids
Normal service resumes with the second album from the math rock emo band from Florida. This is definitely one of the emo albums of the year again it suffers a little in the sameness department but when it is good it is brilliant. Released in 2022 in North America, it only came out in Europe in April 2023. Definitely one not to overlook. 4/5

58 Tom Meighan - The Reckoning
I almost missed this album until I spotted it in the album charts. So glad I didn't as this is way better than I expected. Must admit, I prefer this album to anything Kasabian have released after he left. Yes Kasabian, have the vibe but Tom was the best voice and songwriter. I am replaying most of my top 100 so looking forward to hearing this again. 4/5
