now this is more like it andy-endorsed, so don't worry past or present, and generally with a fair amount of popularity, but that doesn't restrict the field to oldies... this is some that i can think of - any objections, secondings or additions, you know what to do: radiohead ash feeder muse idlewild the smiths the cure u2 dire straits guns n' roses crowded house tom petty & the heartbreakers the beatles! (obviously) the stone roses can't be bothered but there are LOADS... we'll have to spend a long time slimming this list down... naturally i WANT to have elbow on the list but they're almost certainly not deemed popular/best-selling enough

franz have only released one album though (not sure about the scissor sisters?)... much as i love them, i'm not sure if that entitles them to be one of the biggest bands of all time even snow patrol haven't really earned the title yet... will put them on if we don't have enough other suggestions, though... along with elbow

So we going for bands here and then groups as a separate one? Sounds good to me... Is Inxs and Crowded House there? Can you keep an updated alphabetical list please Jade if it's not too much trouble :D64 would be very good, sorry that elbow look unlikely to feature, maybe they could feature in a knockout for the 64th place with other bands that NM and Sofie will suggest;)
