They're batting again because they're Austrailian. It's what they're all about. It's their cricket mentality - and it's why they are the best team in the world. Yes, they're gonna hammer us, but they may as well make us look complete tw*ts whilst doing so.

They're also batting because their bowlers are old farts that could do with the rest!

I'd rather have some of those old farts instead of our ineffective nobodies full of bluster!

Well we had our best day so far but the 2 late wickets have probably cost us a chance of saving the match.
England 2nd innings: (293-5) Strauss 11 Cook 43 Bell 0 Collingwood 96 Pietersen 92 not out Flintoff 16 Jones 12 not out
Lee 0-81 McGrath 0-30 Clark 1-56 Warne 4-108 Hussey 0-5

Pietersen added nothing when he could have done so much today

I've heard all the gung-ho so many times before - ah well we played well in the last 2 days, the position is similar to the last Ashes series, etc. The one big difference is that it is in Australia this time.
I hate to say it but I honestly don't think England are just good enough. I cansee nothing but a score of at least 3-0 - they might salvage 2 draws and unfortunately 5-0 is NOT an outside shot.
I hope I have egg on my face at this prediction but can anyone put their hand on their heart and swear they think this series will be competitive?

I think it will become MORE competitive, certainly. If we win or they lose the remaining tosses then we have a chance but if they keep winning we're f***ed!

Better start to the test, all the openers could do with getting a few runs and some confidence, good to see bell, collingwood and pitersen doing well, 266-3 is good, but we need to push on tomorrow and take it further, no silly early wickets, century for collingwood and more, and same for pietersen.

Much better performance, but we need to remain consistent and strong throughout tomorrow to put us in a position to pressure Australia. Still, so far so good!

Now that is more like it! 560+, Aussies in batting and we have a wicket, press on tomorrow lads, and restore some pride!

Must admit to being surprised at this turn round. It would appear winning the toss can be vitally important in many matches.
At least it surely takes the monkey of a 5-0 scoreline of their backs but as I expect them to play not to lose rather than go for the win I predict this match will be drawn.

Great stuff, lets hope we can go skittle them over fairly quickly tomorrow.

Good to see Jones only get the one run! I heard somewhere that he holds the record for most test innings by an Englishman without ever being dismissed for a duck (this is his 33rd test match). And LOL at Kevin Pietersen being dismissed for 158 again (this is the 3rd time he has achieved this score, and has never bettered it).

no comments on the cricket today?
started off perfecty and ended perfecty, not much in the middle, Austrailia were just getting back into the game, they should reach 450 but still good for england if they can bat like they did the other day

A couple of important wickets at the end with the new ball to keep England on top in the match...
312-5

Not sure we will skittle them out now, have to see, if we do, assume we have to bat again, what is the follow on score the aussies need to not bat again?
