Aussies need around 35 more to avoid the follow-on, they easily reach this, but if we can try to finish 150 runs ahead then we still have a small chance.

Yeah, but unless the pitch cuts up really badly I don't think there'll be enough time to take 20 Aussie wickets. Not sure how safe Flintoff will play it if we're 300+ ahead in the last session of Day 4 (tonight)

Sums it up!

Only Pietersen, Hoggard and Collingwood have any pride in this test and Pietersen let himself down in the 2nd innings, I'm taping this on bbc2 tonight just to see how low we have got. Anyone think it will be a whitewash now? How do you come back from this?

I know you can never be confident in the English batsmen but this was a real shock. I never believed they could have lost this at the end of Day 3. The whitewash is now on.

awful, awful, awful. How could they throw it away after what looked like a certain draw?

It's easy to criticise the batsmen, but certain bowlers have been completely inept throughout the test. We can't just rely on Flintoff and Hoggard!!!
Harmison, Giles and Anderson might as well not even be in the squad for all they contribute!

So would you bring Monty in robin, bearing in mind he cant field or bat

Harmison, Giles and Anderson might as well not even be in the squad for all they contribute! Absolutely. Harmison and Anderson are both passengers at the moment. Mahmood should be playing. Ashley Giles has done nothing to justify his place in the side. Monty must play in the next match.

Truely, truely shocked at this result. It now seems we're unable to draw!
So, 2 tests gone, and 3 players have played fairly well - Pieterson, Collingwood and Hoggy.
Bell has done enough to warrant a place too. The rest need to look at themselves.
We just seem so negative. We have to play Giles because he's a better batsmen than Monty? It screams defeatist.
Lets just put out our best possible XI.
I agree with MH as well. Harmya nd Anderson surely have to go for the next test. Yes they are better bowlers than Mahmood and Plunkett, but who cares? The latter will give 100% more than them.

I'd also ditch Geraint Jones, and bring back Chris Read! A far better wicket keeper and considering Jones isn't scoring runs, he has very little going for him!

tbh Collingwood has only has ONE good innings. Collingwood's scores so far: 5 98 206 22 not out Only Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey have higher averages in the series so far. He's also taken 3 catches, which is only 1 less than Jones.

forgot about the 98.... but when england bottled he bottled and when they played well he played well.
when we needed someone to score runs when were were struggling to break 200 he was nowhere just like everyone else, he's one of our main batsman. he is either excellent or sh*te

Odd and surprising decision really!
