I'd also ditch Geraint Jones, and bring back Chris Read! A far better wicket keeper and considering Jones isn't scoring runs, he has very little going for him! I seem to recall Read scoring a decent amount of runs against Pakistan.

That's more like it! Aussies all out for 244, after being 170-4! Panesar 4 wickets, harmison 5! But can we bat and make over 300 and take a lead? If we've bowled them cheaply I fear we'll be bowled even cheaper. There's no hurry for runs now, we can bat for 2 days and make 450, I'll believe it when I see it

But surprisingly better performance from England but after the last Test no need to get too carried away Simple but valid question why on earth was Monty left out of the last 2 tests?

50odd for 2. Not bad but we need Collingwood and Straus to make this wicket last tomorrow...

Too right Mark, both need 50s, and if 1 could get a century it would be fabby! Also need the rest of the middle order to stand up and be counted, let's get a lead!

According to Sky earlier, general agreement was that Giles would play in the first Test, and be replaced by Panesar for the 2nd! Why this didn't happen is uncertain, but it's likely it represents a rift between selectors! The performance of Panesar this morning really makes those who prefer Giles look pretty stupid!!!!

Hope that doesnt cost us the Ashes then, as given how close the last Test was (well until our collapse) Panesar may have made a difference.

51-2 is a bit shaky Considering Warne dropped a catch on 42

Cook and Bell's scores so far:
Cook: 11 43 27 9
Bell: 50 0 60 26
Bell's played OK in patches but he'd probably be the guy to go if Vaughan was fit.
Cook's had a poor series. He lacks experience at this level and the fact he wasn't expecting to open the batting before Trescothick went home hasn't helped.
With the Panesar selection issue, most of the blame was initially directed at Duncan Fletcher but it's now believed Fletcher wanted to pick Panesar for the 2nd test and was overruled by Flintoff.

Can we ever have confidence in England's batting?
