We might just hang on then but I have my doubts over FIFA's rankings anyway. If FIFA want us in with the top seeds, we will be.

Here it was as of last month anyway. FIFA then UEFA ranking.
Romania could well have overtaken England. Turkey may have passed Serbia. Lithuania and Belarus could also have had big jumps with their wins, possibly at the expense of Georgia. Oh and the Kazakhis beating Armenia may have put Liechtenstein into the bottom pot again.

I've actually been thinking of coming up with my own ranking system.
But I'm too lazy.

I'm going to work out the points per game each team have had over the last 2 campaigns to see how it differs from the FIFA rankings.

Isn't that the same as the UEFA coefficients which are being used for the Euro 2008 draw? It should be. But i want to know how the world cup qualifying pools would have panned out. Here's what i ended up with anyway...... although this doesn't include Serbia v Kazakhstan and I gave Armenia v Azerbaijan as 2 defeats for both teams. Plus I didn't do anything for ignoring results against the teams in last place. Netherlands 58 24 2.417 Croatia 53 22 2.409 Italy 52 22 2.364 Czech Republic 56 24 2.333 Sweden 50 22 2.273 Germany 27 12 2.250 Romania 54 24 2.250 Portugal 57 26 2.192 Spain 48 22 2.182 Poland 52 24 2.167 Greece 52 24 2.167 England 47 22 2.136 France 46 22 2.091 Turkey 47 24 1.958 Russia 47 24 1.958 Serbia 43 23 1.870 Norway 41 22 1.864 Israel 41 22 1.864 Bulgaria 40 22 1.818 Switzerland 18 10 1.800 Denmark 42 24 1.750 Ukraine 42 24 1.750 Scotland 37 22 1.682 Slovakia 39 24 1.625 Ireland 34 22 1.545 Finland 40 26 1.538 Austria 15 10 1.500 Bosnia 29 22 1.318 Northern Ireland 29 22 1.318 Belgium 30 24 1.250 Hungary 26 22 1.182 Lithuania 26 22 1.182 Latvia 27 24 1.125 Slovenia 23 22 1.045 Wales 23 22 1.045 Belarus 23 22 1.045 Albania 24 24 1.000 Estonia 24 24 1.000 FYR Macedonia 23 24 0.958 Georgia 20 24 0.833 Cyprus 18 22 0.818 Moldova 17 22 0.773 Liechtenstein 15 24 0.625 Armenia 16 26 0.615 Iceland 12 22 0.545 Kazakhstan 11 25 0.440 Malta 8 22 0.364 Azerbaijan 8 24 0.333 Andorra 5 24 0.208 Luxembourg 3 24 0.125 Faroes 1 22 0.045 San Marino 0 22 0.000 Montenegro

Teams that reached Euro 2004 that did not reach Euro 2008: Latvia, Denmark, Bulgaria and the obvious one... Teams that reached Euro 2008 but not Euro 2004: Romania, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland. That's incorrect. You should have Austria on that second list instead of Switzerland. Oops!

There was some talk the other day of there being a 'Home Nations Tournament' with England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (and possibly even Republic of Ireland) competing against each other - to give something for the fans to enjoy!

Turns out it's Greece who've leapfrogged England, rather than Romania. Greece are ahead by ONE point.
These will be the seedings for the World Cup draw:
POT ONE Italy, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Portugal, Holland, Croatia, Greece
POT TWO England, Romania, Scotland, Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Sweden, Israel
POT THREE Norway, Ukraine, Serbia, Denmark, Northern Ireland, Rep of Ireland, Finland, Switzerland, Belgium
POT FOUR Slovakia, Bosnia, Hungary, Moldova, Wales, Macedonia, Belarus, Lithuania, Cyprus
POT FIVE Georgia, Albania, Slovenia, Latvia, Iceland, Armenia, Austria, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan
POT SIX Liechtenstein, Estonia, Malta, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Andorra, Faroe Islands, San Marino

How on earth did Belgium get into pot 3? They finished reasonably strongly in the Euro qualifiers - only lost 1 of their last 6 or something like that. They just had an awful bit in the middle where they lost 4 in a row.

Moldova sneaking into pot 4 is an interesting one. They went unbeaten in their last 4 Euro games, winning 3 of them... They're up to 53 in the FIFA rankings!

I know I really want Bosnia to make it in some time, they've bene fairly close on a number of occasions now (and this campaign was going pretty well for a while at least).
