If there is any doubt with technology then we have to say it didn't cross the line. I certainly think they got it wrong at the Reading game!

Probably fair TBH. Shall I scrap the Villa - Man City one?

With all the fuss over Reading's winning goal, people have forgotten that Sunderland's penalty was very dodgy.

Actually, just saw the penalty incident again and Sonko didn't get the ball as I first thought, so the penalty decision was right.

If there is any doubt with technology then we have to say it didn't cross the line. I certainly think they got it wrong at the Reading game! It looked like the whole of the ball didn't *quite* cross the whole of the line (it was probably 60-75% over), so no goal. The Villa "goal?" was a lot closer - possibly 102% over or something like that, very difficult to give.

Two goal-line decisions going the wrong way yesterday... Reading's winning "goal" against Sunderland, and Villa's non-winning "no goal" against Man City. So I make that Reading gained 2, Sunderland lost 1, Villa lost 2, City gained 1. Goal-line technology anyone? I was at the Reading game (report to come next week on the Reading thread) and as it was down the far end from us we didn't have a clue whether it went in or not. Looking at the replays in the concourse afterwards it looked just in, but on reflection it was a lucky 2 points gained as i couldnt be convinced it was definitely in (though if we hadn't won the game it would have been harsh anyway. Tell that to the Sunderland fans who moaned about the decision on 606 afterwards..) The joke is that they're currently testing Hawkeye at the stadium, having already used it for academy games this season, but obviously can't use it in a real game yet. Bet they never thought they would actually come across it in a Premiership game during the testing process!

According to Sky Sports though, both decisions were technically correct, although they questioned whether the linesman at the Reading game could possibly have known it. That linesman actually missed the ball going out of play in the 2nd half for a Reading throw, the ref had to overrule him. How he could then even see whether the ball had crossed the line, let alone give the goal, is a mystery to me.. As for the penalty, it was right in front of us and seemed dubious at the time, but looking at the replays once we got home it was the right decision.

Two more Stamford Bridge signings helped gain them two points yesterday... Mike Cairns, taking a position wide on the right, assured them of a late winner at home to Newcastle, with an assist from Mike Riley.

how about Everton being denied 2 points again yesterday with Andrew Johnson's goal being ruled out, never mind the fact he was also denied a clear penalty? And Blackburn get another point "won".

I agree with both of these. They seemed pretty sure on MOTD last night...
I remember there being an offside goal a couple of weeks back but I forgot to update and can't remember what it was now. I shall have to check.

I think it may have been Vassel's goal for Man City in their 1-1 draw with West Ham 2 weeks ago yesterday. But after reading the BBC's match report and Curbishley's comments it's not mentioned so I don't know...

There were so many bad decisions in the Newcastle-Boro game, I don't think you can add/take away any points from either team.
If you're going to include Owen's disallowed goal, then you should also take off the goal that was given as the free kick shouldn't have been awarded.
There was debate over Boro's goal but as Huth wasn't the man offside, it comes down to the referee's interpretation, rather than a clear right/wrong decision. Aliadiere may have been level for Boro's disallowed goal as well.

I'd forgotten about that free-kick. Yeah, definitely played the ball on it.

I'd forgotten about that free-kick. Yeah, definitely played the ball on it. I think thats probably a matter of opinion as i thought it was a free-kick. He may have got a touch on the ball, but i thought it was minimal and imo he fouled him afterwards. I wasn't sure about mentioning the Owen disallowed goal initially for the reason that mrh mentioned. There were other dubious decisions which were highlighted, so it wasn't that significant. The offside goal you missed was the Vassell one. Although i could understand the managers comments (and im sure i remember Curbishley mentioning it so i don't know why its not mentioned on the bbc site ) i didn't bring it up simply because you could spend all day arguing about whether a player is active or inactive. Its simply a grey area.
