Colin Calderwood has given us a fascinating insight into his survival plans: "You have to win your home games at home."
Meanwhile, Wolves manager Mick McCarthy tells us of the strengths of Andy Keogh: "He did well because he's got legs."

Reading's goalkeeper scored yesterday Still wasn't enough to get me my predicta points... Ditto...And I know! Still can't quite believe it Didn't think anything would top Murty's winning penalty in our last game of our Championship winning season in 05-06, but this is right up there A "had to be there moment" without doubt, not that i was there yesterday.. Its actually not the 1st time he's scored, he also scored in a pre-season game at Bromley couple of years back after having to play outfield due to injuries, something which i may have mentioned at the time, so it sounds like he's a decent player. Of course he's only been playing recently because of an injury to Hahnemann, but i was expecting him to be our no1 next season. He's recently signed a new contract after interest from other clubs following a successful loan spell at Southend. Games between Reading and Cardiff always seem to be dramatic in one way or another, seem to remember a very late winner at Cardiff a few years ago, 7 or 8 mins into stoppage time, yesterday was in the 6th min with the last kick of the game! Will mention about our game at Cardiff last month in my monthly review in the Reading thread, if i ever get round to it...

We'll be in this division next season! Well maybe... I mean we're only 5 points off 10th but, um, yeah...

It's too close and soon to say anything yet...
Although I am slightly smug as I predicted them 17th pre-season and you wrote a few paragraphs to explain how you'd be challenging for the top 10! It's also about the only prediction I got right, well I put Wigan 8th too which is looking good.

And mrh's post above and Boro's current predicament reminded me of that long debate that we had with mrh about Boro as well. Despite what i said though i think there are more likely teams to go down than Boro, they've actually surprised me this season so i'm rather surprised they're in this position. Even if they did go down they'd probably go straight back up anyway. And fair play to you Mark as well, you said before last season even finished that the Prem would be very competitive this season, and you were spot on, its the best season for years imo. I really do think that if we'd stayed up last season we'd be bottom atm..

Well until a couple of weeks ago, my prediction for Boro was looking spot on. I predicted 11th and we were 12th. We've been very poor for the last month, though. It's annoying as we played really well for the first couple of months of the season but didn't get the results we deserved. We should probably have a dozen more points than we currently do, which would make a massive difference in any season, let alone this one. Still a long way to go, but I'm just starting to get p***ed with Southgate's attitude at the moment which is why I felt like posting in this thread. Hopefully our bad run will end soon (not that I'm expecting anything from tonight but it would absolutely typical of Boro to go and get something from the game) and everyone will probably have a similar run at some point. I'd certainly rather get it out of the way now, than fall apart in April. If things get back on track, we can still challenge for the top 10 but so can anyone in the bottom half and it's any 3 from 14 to go down... Back on topic, Dowie's been linked with the Forest job!

I would definitely agree with most of that. You can be a fairly decent team but then there's no one in the league that can't. I can't say I rate your defence too highly though, I like Wheater and I like Pogatetz, although he can be too fiery but Huth spends most of the time injured, I've never rated Riggott and I still don't think it's a surprise Hoyte never really got a chance with Arsenal.
I do fear for Hull, I genuinely think they could go down, 7 points really isn't that much and I think they're over the shock factor now and teams know how to play them (watch them beat Villa tomorrow now!). Also, if Zaki or Heskey do leave then Hull will be losing their star striker as Wigan will surely be recalling Marlon King. I think Portsmouth might go too, Adams is crap! I think Man City will end up safe, as will Wigan and Fulham. I've always thought Steve Bruce was a top manager and he's built a good squad there. Fulham look solid too though do lack goals at times. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if someone was relegated with a record number of points this season.
I've seen we've been linked to Dowie today, I've also read that one bookies has suspended betting on Billy Davies so I'm not believing anything until we've appointed someone! I do think with the board not extending Lee Camp's loan (he's been about our player of the season) because they want a new manager first but extending Joel Lynch's loan until the end of the season (he's been dreadful) it all points to Billy Davies being the new boss as he had a massive falling out with Lee Camp at Derby!

The Man U-Boro match last night was just as tight as i thought it would be. Man U struggling for goals, Boro don't normally concede many, it didnt have the makings of a classic lol, hence why i went for 1 or 2 nil to United. Thought Boro defended well, though if Tuncay had scored at the death it would have been a complete injustice. Not only did Boro not deserve anything from the game (the scoreline flattered them) but Tuncay was clearly offside!
Went for 3 from Stoke, W Brom, Hull and Bolton to go down at the start of the season. I think both Bolton and Hull will stay up, but W Brom will definitely go and obviously Stoke are struggling, especially away from home. As for the others, Pompey are in big trouble imo, they're on a bad run and they're bound to lose players in Jan. Diarra has already gone, Defoe will go, and there could be others. They were always going to fall away once Harry left as they couldnt have achieved anymore in his time at the club, although i never thought that when he left they could go down.. Although Blackburn werent one of the teams i tipped to go down i did expect them to struggle and they're going to find it tough in the position they're in. Im also not sure they've got as much quality as other teams, certainly in defence and midfield anyway. Also think Newcastle are in big trouble despite their recent revival. They were completely hopeless against Liverpool on Sunday, a real relegation performance. Anyone i havent mentioned i think will be fine, certainly can't see Wigan, Fulham and Man City having too many problems. Can't see anything less than 40 pts being enough to stay up, and as you say Mark it could be more. Think all the relegated teams would be Top 3 in the Championship next season, though it depends on how many players leave.

Not only did Boro not deserve anything from the game (the scoreline flattered them) but Tuncay was clearly offside! I thought 1-0 was the right result, just because of the way Boro defended and the performance of Ross Turnbull. And it was just one mistake that cost Boro a goal. United had the bulk of the possession and chances but that's to be expected at Old Trafford. In the second half, Boro had been the better team until Scholes came on. They got the goal a few minutes later and Man U took control after that. I agree with Mark that the defence is a worry. Wheater's good but he reminds me of a young Rio Ferdinand, in that he'd make one mistake per game. I haven't seen enough Hoyte to form an opinion but I must say Matt Bates had a great game at right-back last night. OK - no more Boro in this thread (this season, anyway).

I watched he first half the other night and Bates did play fairly well...
Back on topic, it looks as if Forest are on the verge of appointing Billy Davies as manager. Pleasing....

He should be a good appointment for you. If you can stay up this season, he could make you a force to be reckoned with next season.
Charlton have appointed Phil Parkinson...

I think he will do well and we will stay up. In Charlton, Southampton and Norwich there are three worse teams than us anyway which always helps. The situations regarding Earnshaw and Camp worry me a little bit but having said that if we're so reliant on one or even two players to stay up then we deserve to be relegated...
