Well having seen Little Boots live, and Florence & The Machine 5 days ago, they're both brilliant! and Remi Nicole has a new album out next year, we'll see if that catastrophically flops like her last... and Peggy Sue, they're gaining more popularity... so they should Oh Remi has a second album? That's good news. Hopefully she'll be more clear of which direction to go in this time. Something more akin to the original version of "Fed Up", I'm hoping? Peggy Sue could breakthrough - they were one of my tips for 2008 though and it didn't happen, so I'm not holding my breath. Fingers crossed, however. It's the 50th anniversary of Buddy Holly's death next year so Peggy Sue should do well.

Yes, Remi uploaded a new demo onto her Myspace, "Nice Boy" but she's took it down. It was catchy. I first seen Peggy Sue in 06, and knew they had something special. They just need more exposure.

a few have already been mentioned but here is a few i think will be big Joe Lean & The Jing Jang JongLead singer, Joe Lean was drummer with The Pipettes until June 2007. He has played Jamie Chapman in Peep Show and Thomas Tallis in The Tudors. They have supported the likes of Babyshambles, Dizzee Rascal, Cansei de Ser Sexy, Cribs and Kaiser Chiefs. Their debut, self-titled album was originally due to be released on the 4 August 2008, however this release was scrapped as the album 'didn't represent their current sound'. The album will be re-recorded with a view to release the album in 2009. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wDbh_Z9QnKQGhostsTheir sound can be compared to the likes of Keane, Thirteen Senses, The Bluetones and even Radiohead. A solid debut album went rather unoticed and a new album is due early 2009 uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1KWsnSRUAmk&feature=channelVoxpopFrom the ashes of "The Upper Room" who split up in 2006 comes their new band "Voxpop". check out "bad news" and a few other demos on their myspace... www.myspace.com/voxpoplondonand a classic upper room video incase you have no idea who they were uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SnVSpkqdcXw

Joe Lean were one of my tips for 2008....the way the album was handles was ridiculous. I'm not surprised that they weren't interested in the album come August...I'm wondering if they've missed the train now?
Not keen on Ghosts...but the potential to crack onto The Feeling/Scouting For Girls/Hoosiers market is there, but on a far smaller scale.
Loved Upper Room and had no idea about the new band, so thanks for that!

I can't see Ghosts making it big. If it was gonna happen for them, it would have been last year IMO!! I saw them perform at Blackpool's lights switch-on last year, they were pretty good, but nobody watching seemed to give a damn. Actually though, they reminded me more of Delays than anyone else - unless the new stuff is more poppy? Oh, and I think Joe Lean et al have well and trult missed the boat. I'm not sorry about that at all... dire band IMO, possibly the most unoriginal and dull indie band I've ever heard!

Air Traffic do make great music though

I saw Air Traffic at the V Festival...thought they were really quite good live, actually. All 'lite-indie' acts are going to have scenesters that will be over them 6 months later. I would have thought that if they were going to properly make it big then they would have done it with "Shooting STar", though.
That said - they're quite similar to Athlete, and look what they did with "Tourist".

Air Traffic have only had 1 album...Fractured Life.
I went to a AT gig 14 months ago, as they started out, played some ace music, and yes, they can be quiet on stage, but recently they have improved immensely on that front and have some banter. They let the music do the talking.
At the gig I went to it was mainly my age group and older, although it was 16+ gig. Quite a few older people, mid 30's and up.
I've got some of the stuff which never made the album and its actually better, was a shame they didnt include it.
I've heard them to be compared to coldplay, ghosts, athlete, kubb, elbow, and several others.
Another band to look out for, if they get somewhere is the Displacements, they are slightly less Indie, they have tracks which are rock, jazz, indie etc...
and another band is Figure 5, a Glaswegian band who are indie-rock.

The album's been out for a while though, so they might have to wait until the second album before they properly breakthrough - like Hot Chip did with "The Warning". That said, they are touring extensively in the New Year - so it might happen. Great album.

The album's been out for a while though, so they might have to wait until the second album before they properly breakthrough - like Hot Chip did with "The Warning". That said, they are touring extensively in the New Year - so it might happen. Great album. yeah it is a great album, but they have released 6 singles from it and only one charted in the top 100 and that was 98. i can't see how they can do any better musically to top their debut when it has gone so unoticed for me they are one of the best acts to come out of 2008... The reason i thought air traffic had released a second album is they played a load of new songs a year ago when i saw them live. and they were nothing compared to the big hits off their first album and even then Just Abuse Me and Charlotte were released in 2006 as a double single and then Never Even Told Me Her Name and Shooting Star were on the 2006 EP. Them 4 songs made it onto their debut album and quite frankly the rest of the album was rather sub standard compared to them songs. Can you imagine the album without them 4 songs on? It has to be an amaizing second album for them to make it big, which is very unlikely. I'm taking into account their recording sessions for Fractured Life never produced any hits. The fact most of their fanbase will move onto the next big thing. The 4 songs i mentioned and even No More Running Away were catchy and good enough to make them big but it never happened, can they top that? And the new songs they played when i saw them live were average, i can't even remember how they went. Even if they make a great album i still dont think they will make it big, which is a shame because they are a lot better than most bands out there at the moment

The 2006 release was as you say an EP, the 2007 release was an actual debut album.
Since the FL album they haven't had any new single releases, but there are several new songs which i have my hands on.
One is a free download they did on myspace, but the rest are gig material only.
Anyway, Displacements, debut album should be out fairly soon, it was schedeuled for this year, but I haven't seen it come out!?

I really think Ghosts have had their chance, and their debut album was really not that great outside of The World Is Outside and Stay The Night. Stay The Night was a good album/act opener - but it's instantly safe Radio 2 material, unless you're The Fratellis and follow up "Creepin' Up The Backstairs" with three equally as catchy singles, even R2 won't give you another go.
2009 - VV Brown has impressed me of late, and would love Janelle Monae to do well too.

Carolina Liar is a great under-the-radar rock/pop band. I'm hoping they will make it big in 2009, although I kind of think it would have happened by now if it were going to. At least their one song "I'm Not Over" managed to go to #5 at US Alternative radio back in the late summer.
