Soucek has been in fantastic form in these last few races. He will wrap up the title in Imola no doubt about it. The winner gets a test with Williams. Given how valuable test mileage is nowadays this is a great opportunity, and for Soucek it should be a good chance of being Williams' test and reserve driver next year. Soucek has driven an F1 car before - a Toyota in 2006.
There's a good battle for 2nd in the championship. This is particularly interesting as the top 3 all qualify for F1 superlicences. The Red Bull drivers (Aleshin, Wickens and Bortolotti) will all be very keen to get one as they are most likely of the whole field to need it. I suspect however Wickens and Jousse will get them

Coloni have reportedly been fined EUR80,000 for missing the Belgian GP2 races as a result of Andy Soucek's actions €80,000 is bound to be a drop in the ocean compared to the amount they got for hiring Roldan Rodriguez instead of Andy Soucek last year...

Both Durangos are not competing this weekend as Coletti is injured, and Panciatici did not arrive due to Coletti initially being given his car to race before being declared unfit (Coletti's own car being too damaged).
By my calculations, Hulkenberg will clinch the title tomorrow if he outscores Petrov in this race (with Petrov's score including the 2 points for pole).

Panciatici's money has dried up - that's why he's not racing this weekend.
Good qualifying from Cecotto in his first race weekend. Impressive from van der Garde too - he has really come on strong in the second half of the year

Apparently the race finished behind the safety car, which makes Petrov's achievement of finishing nearly 11 seconds ahead of 3rd place quite impressive...
By my calculations, Hulkenberg will clinch the title tomorrow if he outscores Petrov and/or he wins (even if Petrov finishes 2nd and gets fastest lap).

Cecotto had a big off on the final lap and the safety car was called very late on the last lap for some reason. The top 2 had been far head of the field the entire race had just passed the incident as the safety car was called and only had the back straight and parabolica to go, hence the big gap to 3rd.
There were a lot of penalties in the race, particularly for jumping the chicanes 3 times. The stewards must have decided this to make it completely transparent in all categories this weekend which is good to see.

Here's the Petrov-Herck shunt. It's a strange one as you would have thought Herck would have seen Petrov before impact: (I think that's world feed commentary on the clip. He weren't treated to anything as professional as that on Eurosport this weekend Filippi inherited the lead after the 6 cars ahead of him received drive-throughs for passing the safety car (Perez should have received one as well). Interesting one this - the last corner at Portimao is completely blind. Zuber bunched up the pack but let it go too early. When he saw the safety car it would have been too dangerous to slam on the brakes. So while Zuber should have been penalised all of the other drivers had no option but to follow his lead. So in a way, judging who gets a penalty for overtaking the safety car was completely pot luck - if you happened to have a good start and get up the field the greater the chance of a penalty. In saying that Filippi really earned a good result here. He overtook Perez, Maldonado and Hulkenberg before the penalties when they were under investigation. It is Filippi's first win since Bahrain at the start of the 2007 season
