It is too reminisent to Ayrton's death, As soon as I saw the wheel hit his head and how the car went straight and slowly slowed to a halt.
I really really hope not, but how it looked he could well have died immediately.
Especially as if you look you see steam, but I wonder if it is exhaust fumes, like he has it on full throttle.

RIP Henry Surtees, at 18 way too young and too soon in a very exciting looking career.
Jack Clarke will be the worse effected here as he crashed into the barrier, but where was the technology like F1 to stop wheels coming off the car?
It should have been as standard. I'm sorry but F2 has been created in too much haste. And Surtees has fatally found that out.

There's been significant debate on this already Paddy on some of the motorsport forums this afternoon. F2 cars have been built to the same safety specifications as the 2005 F1 cars, including the tyre tethers that were mandatory that year. But these tyre tethers aren't foolproof. We've seen that in F1 several times in the last few years and even in the last F2 round in Spa. I don't agree that the F2 cars have been made in haste. Williams are behind the design and they are extremely meticulous about things like this.
Personally I think it's Brands Hatch that ultimately created this tragedy. There isn't nearly enough run off on the corner that Clarke went off

It's difficult to know what to say... It was a freak accident but Paul probably has a point about the run-off area. It wouldn't have happened at a lot of today's F1 circuits.

No, I am on racing.forumotion.co.uk/index.htmand the same thing has been said, I really thought no tethers were installed on the vehicles, but i still think F2 was hastily created. I don't agree with all things the championship has, red flag for wet weather etc. I have also read that there is a suspicion the suspenion broke in the crash, but still, Brands Hatch built houses to close to the track, therefore no run off is accessable. All in all, I feared the worst when i saw the pictures earlier, he looked out of it as soon as it happened. Hopefully an investigation is done, things improved, a fatal crash in TOP tier racing has not happened since Senna in 1994, 15 years ago, i call F2 top tier, as well as F1, GP2/F3000 and WTCC and Le Mans. American races fatalities happen too often but they have concrete walls and they risk more.

Fatal as far as drivers are concerned... There have been 2 marshals killed in F1 since then. We shouldn't forget that. I believe one of those was the result of a stray tyre in Melbourne a few years ago...

Well yes, I meant drivers, but marshalls must be remembered.
Marshalls being killed is almost as rare though.

I have also read that there is a suspicion the suspenion broke in the crash, but still, Brands Hatch built houses to close to the track, therefore no run off is accessable. If that's the case Brands isn't suitable for motor racing. Simple as that. It's a fantastic circuit, but I believe that if any other series was racing and the same incident occurred, the result would have been the same. i.e. I can't agree with the hastily created argument - F2 had a lead in of over a year, the car is designed by Patrick Head - one of the best engineers in the business to safety specs comparable to GP2. For comparison, GP3 is supposed to launch next year and still there's very little known about that championship now!

Believe it or not, but that is Lucas di Grassi's first ever GP2 pole position. It just goes to show how much his raw pace has come in after 4 years in the series.
I'm starting to be less convinced about Grosjean now. He should be comfortably leading this championship at this stage but he isn't, and he made an major error in qualifying getting tangled up with Perera. Perera was deemed to have caused the incident though and he will not start race 1

One American driver in the top 17 on the grid for this evening's Indycar race at Edmonton. USF1 had better get Wurz on the phone again... Stick Marco Andretti in the car. Wurz is a curious choice though - yes he's an excellent development driver which will be invaluable for a new team. But he wasn't that special as a racer or a qualifier especially in 2007. And he's retired!! On the GP2 sprint race, a much needed result for iSport. They had Adam Carroll with the team this weekend acting as a 'mentor' for van der Garde. It would be awesome if they could strike a deal to put Carroll in the car for the rest of the season as van der Garde and Nunes really aren't getting the most out of that car. It's sad that such a good team is languishing down in 10th place in the standings

Will Power's win is his first ever Indycar victory.
Tony Kanaan suffered burns to his face and thumbs after a fire during a pit stop. His car was engulfed in flames after fuel splashed onto it and other pit crews had to rush to help extinguish the fire. Kanaan will be assessed this week to see if he is fit to compete at Kentucky next weekend.
The race was almost the first in Indycar history not to have a full course caution but Tomas Scheckter's late crash caused the race to finish under yellow.
