Some GP2 news - Valsecchi has left Durango, almost certainly to replace Grosjean at Addax. (Grosjean will of course replace Piquet at Renault F1). I'm not sure Grosjean has shown enough to prove he's worthy of F1, but I think he knew at the back of his mind he wouldn't race the whole of the GP2 season this year.
As for Valsecchi - not a great surprise that it's him - Addax has been where Renault have put their drivers in GP2, and I expect he will do quite well. He worked minor miracles in the Durango in the last year and a half and hasn't quite got the credit for it. Briton James Jakes is among the favourites to take his Durango seat for the rest of the year, along with Carlos Iaconelli and Marco Bonanomi

With 6 races left, all drivers on 0 points have no mathematical chance of the title. Natasha Gachnang won't be champion . Say it ain't so I'm really pleased for Soucek - he has driven very well all season, and he was brilliant at Donington Park today. I've always felt he was a very underrated driver that never had the opportunity or budget to shine. He did a decent job with DPR in GP2 a couple of years ago, and got so screwed over with Fisichella's team that he never really had a chance to prepare for last year. Hopefully Williams will snap him up for a reserve driver role next year, or maybe Campos will sign him as a race driver Not to take anything away from Jousse - his pace was exceptional. I want to see him finish in the top 3 in the championship, along with someone else who needs the Williams test driver prize (i.e. none of the Red Bull guys - their path to F1 is very clear indeed)

Coloni have bought back their share of FMS, and so are renamed the Coloni team for the first time since 2005. The PartyPoker sponsorship is interesting because it means that the winner of the Euroseries 3000 championship will compete for the Coloni team in the GP2 Asia series later this year, and possibly the 2010 season too. Marco Bonanomi is currently leading that championship

An awesome race this morning, showing that Valencia can produce good racing With a Hulkenberg-Perez-Petrov podium, it is second time in the history of GP2 that the top 3 in the sprint race as the same drivers on the podium in the feature race. The first time was Qatar in GP2 Asia earlier this year, where coincidentally enough Hulkenberg, Perez and Petrov were on the podium for both races

The Coloni thing is a bit weird. It all stems back to January last year when FMS (as it was known then) signed Soucek for the 2008 season. Soucek claims that a payment was made to the team at some point before the start of the season. For some reason, possibly financially motivated, the team dropped Soucek for Rodriguez before the season had begun. This completely screwed his season. He filled in at DPR and eventually secured a seat at Super Nova but it derailed his year when he was starting to come on strong. Soucek did try to fight back before by trying to get the cars impounded for the first race last year in Barcelona.
Quite why he has waited until now to try again is a mystery. I guess he believes that by leading the F2 championship F1 beckons and he will be looking beyond GP2, so he can afford to burn his bridges there. I have read that none of the GP2 teams are happy with Soucek's actions.
This episode and Perera not qualifying for either race means that we have the fewest amount of drivers for a GP2 weekend ever at 23

Result of feature race (the 100th GP2 race apparently):
1 Parente (+fastest lap) 2 Hulkenberg 3 di Grassi 4 Maldonado 5 Rodriguez 6 van der Garde 7 Kobayashi 8 Mortara 9 Nunes 10 Clos 11 Panciatici 12 Coletti 13 Villa
Not Classified: Petrov Filippi d'Ambrosio Perez Valerio Valsecchi Chandhok Rigon Herck Teixeira
The race finished behind the safety car due to an accident involving Coletti (who will not start race 2 according to Wikipedia). The official GP2 site reports that Nunes, Clos and Panciatici were all penalised, but I have no idea why as I cannot seem to open the article.

I think Nunes' penalty was given for cutting the bus stop chicane (sound familiar?). Unlike a certain penalty that was deserved last year, Nunes was in front anyway and if he didn't cut the chicane his team-mate would have run into the back of him. It's a shame something stupid like that loses him good points today. If it wasn't for the safety car at the end of the race of Coletti's off (into the tyre bariers in the first part of Eau Rouge) he would have still been in the points An excellent race nonetheless. Parente thoroughly deserved his win. It means that all of the teams in GP2 have now won a race. The former BCN team were the only ones never to win previously

ART should comfortably wrap up the teams championship. Addax are practically a 1 car team since Grosjean left - Valsecchi's pace has been poor.
I wonder if Grosjean will get back in the car for Portimao (the week after Monza). I think Alguersuari will race in the World Series by Renault race at the Nurburgring on the same day
