Columbia is the only song on 'Definitely Maybe' that I'm not that fussed on! But yay for Bugman!

02 (01) BLUR 'Tender' - 9.278
UK Chart Run: {2}-6-9-10-20-28-33-40-48-54->10
Well they might have had the more impressive set of results overall but can't quite manage the top spot, as their best ranked song, 'Tender' can only manage number two and means that both their shortest single and longest single make up their top 2 songs! With the full version being over 7 1/2 minutes long, it would've been forgiven if it dragged a little. But it doesn't, and never feels like it lasts long enough. It's so utterly beautiful and showed yet another side to the band, this rate probably defies the bands in that three songs so varied can make up Blur's top three. After 'Country House', this is easily their second biggest selling single, and sold more than enough to be number one on most weeks, but unofortunately came up against 'Baby One More Time'. Shame.
Love it! Maximo Mark, Thorney, Space, Andrew07, Stewie, Sim, Paddy, YeahYeahTron, Big Dan, ManicKangaroo (10) Misterhamster, Robin, Frag, Andy, Smurfie (9) It shouldn't be this high! Wonderwall, Thor (7)

Pretty certain you included Don't Look Back In Anger, which is surely #1, and deservedly so. The ultimate anthem of brit-pop.
Just a shame I didn't vote, and that you didn't include Stand By Me, which is an Oasis classic.

01 (01) OASIS 'Don't Look Back In Anger' - 9.444

IF it wasn't for the fact that I've heard this so many times I'd probably be delighted with its vicotry, it's a brilliant song and is Oasis at their very best.

Blur totally overrated on here imo I think Oasis have certainly produced more classics that the nation as a whole will remember well into the next few decades.

Only because people compare their sub-par latest output to it, holding it in higher esteem. Hmmm, so Blur would have won if they'd made some stuff that was decidedly crap? For me, Oasis struck gold with their first two and flailed around since trying to get back after seeing their most experimental album go down badly with people. Blur never had the same golden period, they've continued knocking out varied, interesting work which sees them operate at a higher average level than Oasis (at least from a critical perspective) but it's taken too long for Damon to realise he's never going to make a Definitely Maybe or a Morning Glory.

The Oasis classics were regarded as such even before they started releasing poor material.

Nice summary. People in general will remember the Oasis peaks much more than they did with Blur, primarily cause Blur have never really produced an amazing record. If you asked the average person on the street to name a Blur song Country House would probably be the most named and yet people on here don't love it.

Blur's highs are certainly no worse than the highs that Oasis hit, some of Blur's songs are truly stunning and of such beauty that Oasis could never got close to. However I think there are 3 key differences with the two bands.
1) Oasis hit their highs at once, Blur didn't, they hit their highs throughout their career. As a result I don't think their albums had the appeal. Even though I think they're at least just as good I don't think songs like 'Trouble In The Message Centre', 'Bugman' or 'Death of a Party' would've been anything like as popular or appealing as something like 'Cast No Shadow' or 'Slide Away' to the general public. Oasis released a Best Of after 13 years of their career. Of 18 tracks, 15 were from their first 3 years, just 3 were from the next 10. The recent Blur Best Of is far more varied in terms of when they produced the output on it. 2) Commercial appeal. I don't think some of the stuff Blur made is ever going to be as popular purely because of the type of music it is, they often verge more towards Radiohead teritiory which was far from being music for the masses like Oasis were. 3) Personality. I think the personalities of the Gallagher brothers have helped keep Oasis in the public eye for a lot longer than they've been relevant.

style of thems is different I think. . Liam is so antipatchic .
damon albarn is more creative than gallagher bros. especially in gorillaz project.
And Oasis song "falling down" is in my top 3 oasis song. But it isn't in your chart
