Very interesting to see Luca Brecel in the line-up. He's previously won two tournaments that offer a Main Tour place to the winner but has been unable to join the tour because he's too young. He'll almost certainly be on the Tour next season and looks like a future world champion. Snooker's popularity is growing in continental Europe and having a successful European player will only help that.
Brecel has also been given a place in the World Open. Two former world champions will also be given places in the event, as well as two women (not including Reanne Evans).

Very interesting article about the John Higgins case here.Extremely Interesting It's bad enough conducting 'Entrapment Journalism' which I'm dead against but it's something News Of The World are renowned for but if they have doctored the evidence to it wouldn't surprise me if Mooney and Higgins take out a civil action against the paper.

The PTC tournament is next weekend.
As far as I'm aware, this one won't be shown online but future PTC events might be.

Incidentally, the number of ranking points to be awarded in the PTC events has been published:
Winner: 2000 points Runner-up: 1600 Semi-finals: 1280 Quarter-finals: 1000 Last 16: 760 Last 32: 560 Last 64: 360
For the PTC finals, taking place in March, the points will be: Winner: 3000 Runner-up: 2400 Semi-finals: 1920 Quarter-finals: 1500 Last 16: 1140 Last 24: 840
For comparison purposes, Neil Robertson got 10000 points for winning the World Championship, whilst the winners of other ranking events received between 5000 and 7000 points.
The world rankings will be updated four times over the course of the season: after Euro PTC2 in October, the UK Championship in December, the Welsh Open in February and after the World Championship in May.
The October update will determine the seedings for the UK Championship and the Masters. The December update will determine the seedings for the German Masters and Welsh Open. The February update will determine the seedings for the China Open and World Championship.

Neil Robertson isn't playing in the first PTC event. I know he was taking a break after winning the World Championship so he probably wants a bit more time off before returning to action.
The points for winning a tournament are the same, whoever wins it.

Does anyone know if the PTC is being televised ? I guess there are a few more important events on right now No it isn't but there are plans to stream the later events online. For these events they need somewhere where a lot of matches can be played at the same time and the Academy in Sheffield fits that but a venue like that doesn't really lend itself to TV coverage.

I'm really impressed that club players can enter these tournaments too and mix it with the top pro's. I'm quite impressed with the whole set up so far so fingers crossed. Reaction seems to be positive. The players wanted more tournaments and that's what they've got. Tweaks will be needed regarding the playing times (apparently the first day's play didn't finish until 3am) but once they iron out the early issues these events will be a great addition to the sport. News on the Higgins case: The WPBSA has referrred its investigation to Sports Resolutions UK, an independent body that deals with sporting disputes. A hearing is likely to be arranged soon which could see the matter brought to a conclusion.

Rest of today's results...
Quarter-finals: Ronnie O'Sullivan 0-4 Jamie Cope Barry Pinches 3-4 Mark Williams Marco Fu 4-2 Joe Jogia Tom Ford 2-4 Stephen Maguire
Semi-finals: Jamie Cope 3-4 Mark Williams Marco Fu 1-4 Stephen Maguire
Final: Mark Williams 4-0 Stephen Maguire
Mark Williams wins the first Players Tour Championship event.
Not sure if we'll see a world rankings update after that event. I'll keep an eye out.
PTC Event 2 is in two weeks' time.
