Entry numbers for PTC2 are up on the first event.
81 Main Tour members have entered PTC2, compared with 73 for PTC1. The total number of entrants in 164, up from 148.
For all PTC events from now on, the seedings will be based on the PTC Order of Merit, which Mark Williams leads after winning Event 1.
Without the protection of being seeded, the first round draw for PTC2 has paired Shaun Murphy and Peter Ebdon against each other...

I should point out that the above ranking list (taken from the official web site) is somewhat misleading as it doesn't take into account the points the players will lose after the first cut-off point, making it somewhat pointless. It also seems to put the players who were promoted last year at a disadvantage until the end of the season. The excellent Pro Snooker Blog has posted a version of the rankings which takes into account the points that will be lost at the first cut-off and it seems to give a more accurate picture of how things look: (rankings from the end of last season in brackets) 1(1) John Higgins 46470 2(2) Neil Robertson 44930 3(4) Ali Carter 38720 4(3) Ronnie O'Sullivan 36710 5(5) Ding Junhui 36450 6(7) Shaun Murphy 7(6) Stephen Maguire 8(8) Mark Williams 9(10) Mark Allen 10(11) Stephen Hendry 11(13) Graeme Dott 12(9) Mark Selby 13(15) Mark King 14(14) Marco Fu 15(18) Peter Ebdon 16(12) Ryan Day 17(16) Liang Wenbo 18(17) Jamie Cope 19(25) Matthew Stevens 20(19) Joe Perry 21(23) Stephen Lee 22(21) Barry Hawkins 23(26) Mark Davis 24(28) Gerard Greene 25(29) Stuart Bingham 26(22) Steve Davis 27(30) Ken Doherty 28(24) Michael Holt 29(20) Ricky Walden 30(36) Robert Milkins 31(38) Nigel Bond 32(43) Martin Gould 33(33) Mike Dunn 34(27) Judd Trump 35(32) Andrew Higginson 36(39) Joe Swail 37(34) Rory McLeod 38(35) Stuart Pettman 39(40) Marcus Campbell 40(41) Tom Ford 41(37) Jamie Burnett 42(45) Dominic Dale 43(47) Fergal O'Brien 44(42) Anthony Hamilton 45(44) Adrian Gunnell 46(57) Barry Pinches 47(52) Michael Judge 48(49) Rod Lawler 49(50) Peter Lines 50(31) Dave Harold 51(51) Matt Selt 52(46) Alan McManus 53(48) Ian McCulloch 54(53) Andy Hicks 55(56) Jimmy Michie 56(59) David Morris 57(61) Joe Delaney 58(58) Mark Joyce 59(70) Patrick Wallace 60(55) David Gilbert 61(69) Matthew Couch 62(64) Paul Davies 63(60) Jimmy White 64(54) Tony Drago 65(66) Simon Bedford 66(62) Bjorn Haneveer 67(72) Joe Jogia 68(63) Jimmy Robertson 69(68) James Wattana 70(71) Zhang Anda 71(74) Ben Woollaston 72(73) Michael White 73(75) Xiao Guodong 74(-) Jamie Jones 75(-) Alfie Burden 75(-) Paul Davison 75(-) Igor Figueiredo 75(-) Anthony McGill 79(-) Justin Astley 79(-) Liu Chuang 79(-) Liam Highfield 79(-) Kurt Maflin 79(-) Kyren Wilson 84(-) Patrick Einsle 84(-) Reanne Evans 84(-) Kuldesh Johal 84(-) Jak Jones 84(-) Issara Kachaiwong 84(-) Jack Lisowski 84(-) James McBain 84(-) Dermot McGlinchey 84(-) Jamie O'Neill 84(-) Andrew Pagett 84(-) Noppon Saengkham 84(-) Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon 84(-) Adam Wicheard

The rankings are now based over a rolling two-year period and will officially be updated 4 times a year, rather than just once a year. This means there will be 3 cut-off points during the season when the rankings will update and the new positions will take effect (for example, the automatic qualifiers for the World Championship won't be known until after the 3rd cut-off point).
Because the rankings are now based over a 2-year period, players will lose points earned over 2 years ago once we get to the first cut-off point. Ronnie had a very good start to the 2008/09 season, winning the Northern Ireland Trophy and reaching the final of the Shanghai Masters. Because he'll be losing the most points of anyone at the first cut-off point, it drops him down to #4 when this is taken into consideration.
The first cut-off point is after the World Open.

I think the new set up will motivate Ronnie quite a bit. I don't think it'll take long for him to be back at #1 again.

Because the points being lost are from 2 years ago, not last year.

Same reasons as last time. The first set of rankings don't take into account points that will be lost at the first cut-off point in a few months. The second set of rankings do.
