Always knew Sergio Perez was a potential star but didn't realise he would be good enough to only one stop on fast degrading tyres and score points! Excellent effort! I think Sauber are my new favourite team!! Excellent race too from Petrov, a thoroughly deserved podium. I am baffled at Heidfeld's lack of pace though. His times were really quite slow towards the end of the race so I am guessing his car was damaged. Hopefully he will be up at the sharp end at Malaysia. Great effort from Sauber today. Shame about the double DQ. I just wish they'd ditch that dull, generic colour scheme and go back to the black and white/yellow they had when they first entered F1.

Must say I'm liking Brundle and Coulthard commentating, especially Coulthard noticing the plank of Hamilton's car early on. I wasn't fully alert during the race but they seem to be doing a solid job. I did feel slightly sorry for Legard yesterday, who on the opening weekend of the F1 season was back in England commentating on the World's Shittest Sporting Event.

Seem to remember Sauber in Petronas colours though, which obviously are now a sponsor of Mercedes Benz. The best livery this year goes to Murphy in V8's for his Pepsi livery.

Yeah, it was before Petronas and Red Bull were their main sponsors. This is the 1994 version:

I'd forgotten those colours, were the ones when GP2 was brought out.

A bit of a pattern in the front 4 rows! Shame Perez couldn't qualify 12th...

Alonso and Hamilton both given 20 seconds penalties.
Alonso dpesn't move due to it, Hamilton slips even more to 8th. Kobi moves up to 7th.

Couldn't believe it when I discovered this morning about Alonso's and Hamilton's penalties. When they mentioned about Alonso being called into the stewards i expected them to do nothing, or at the most penalise Alonso. Hamilton being more disadvantaged than Alonso, who really wasn't penalised at all, is just b*ll*cks, Alonso was more to blame if not completely to blame. Makes me wonder what they would have done in Valencia last year with the Webber/Kobayashi collision had Webber not retired.
Apart from retiring Hamilton couldn't really have had a worse race. Can't see anyone but Vettel winning the title this year, he won't have as many DNFs this season and i can't see him being outside the podium in the races he does finish.

It's a shame that Eddie Jordan was not present (for the 3rd year in a row apparently - is he banned from entering China?), as it would have interesting to hear his opinion on Mark Webber's failure to make Q2.

Yep, Jordan is banned from China, they said 3 years ago...can't remember why though According to a couple of F1 forums he is not banned, but both he and Martin Brundle have it written into their BBC contracts that they can opt out of 1 GP per season; so Martin takes off the Hungarian GP for a family holiday; and Eddie takes off the GP in Shanghai; not least due to the high levels of smog which adversely impacts on the Irishman's asthma.

Haven't read that but have read that he is a wig wearer.
And Brundle often gets Hungary off to race in a race at Snetterton, a 24 hr race.

Has Brundle actually taken Hungary off since BBC got the rights back?

What a thrilling race. I'm loving this season so far. And I'm a big fan of strategy becoming so much more significant, rather than simple engineering brilliance.

I've been watching F1 on TV for well over 30 years and that was easily in the Top 5 most exciting races. Breathtaking stuff with Lewis Hamilton's brilliant Senna-esque drive to victory the icing on the cake.
