I was about to start a 2011 thread!!
Karthikeyan is a huge surprise but it does make sense. He's worked with Kolles before at Jordan and the only drivers that would consider HRT now are drivers like Narain with access to money and not much opportunity elsewhere. The team pretty much ruined Bruno Senna's career so it's not appealing to a rookie either.
Candidates for the 2nd seat are understood to be Klien, Yamamoto, Davide Valsecchi and Josef Kral (who both tested for HRT in December), Rodolfo Gonzalez (who has money from Venezuela), Fairuz Fauzy (who has money from Malaysia) and Liuzzi (who may be parked there from Force India). I would also imagine former Midland and Minardi driver Christijan Albers also has a chance for the same reasons that Karthikeyan got his seat. Senna and Chandhok will definitely not return to Hispania.
The other seats that are up in the air are the two Force India drives. Sutil is almost guaranteed one of the seats. Liuzzi has a contract for the other, but the team don't seem to want him. Paul di Resta seems to be the favourite for the second seat but they would be missing out on a cheap deal for Nico Hulkenberg. There are some rumours that he would be the third driver. Nick Heidfeld and Karun Chandhok both have an outside chance.

The official entry list apparently lists both Toro Rosso seats as unconfirmed, although there seems to be no reason to believe that they won't retain their drivers.
Calendar for 2011:
13/3 Bahrain 27/3 Australia 10/4 Malaysia 17/4 China 8/5 Turkey 22/5 Spain 29/5 Monaco 12/6 Canada 26/6 Europe (Valencia) 10/7 Great Britain 24/7 Germany (Nurburgring) 31/7 Hungary 28/8 Belgium 11/9 Italy 25/9 Singapore 9/10 Japan 16/10 South Korea 30/10 India 13/11 Abu Dhabi 27/11 Brazil
Rule changes (courtesy of http://www.formula1.com):
This does not make clear what will happen if a driver makes his tyre change in the lap immediately before the red flag (this lap being discounted from the result if the race is not restarted).

The official entry list apparently lists both Toro Rosso seats as unconfirmed, although there seems to be no reason to believe that they won't retain their drivers. I wouldn't rule out Daniel Ricciardo replacing either Buemi or Alguersuari at some point this season, and it is possible that it could happen for Bahrain. Ricciardo and Vergne, Red Bull's new junior drivers coming through the ranks, definitely seem to be more like the real deal than Buemi or Alguersuari. If Webber retires at the end of this season or leaves the team, which is likely, they would need a good young driver to replace him for 2012. So the quicker that Red Bull can get the best of their drivers up to speed the better. There were rumours last week that Toro Rosso has been sold to Arab investors so if that does happen I wouldn't be sure their drivers would be safe.

BBC haven't updated the list with Petrov at Renault, Karthikeyan at HRT and d'Ambrosio at Virgin. And Glock was confirmed on the revised FIA list.

Wish they would hurry up and get out of F1, they are an embarrassment, HRT are like a tramp eating in Harrods food hall

Good riddance to Legard, he was dire, let him go back to football where he belongs, they should have bought back James Allen though.

Minardi were different though, in the early 90's they had a pole position with Martini and nearly won a race, they then fell upon hard times but had a very good factory and more passion for racing than the rest of the grid put together probably, HRT come across as cold and passionless so will never have the popularity Minardi had

James Allen was no better than Legard was, they're both pretty awful!

James Allen was no better than Legard was, they're both pretty awful! Allen was passionate about F1 and wrote books on the subject, he has always been a massive fan whereas Legard was a football guy parachuted into F1 and it showed, Allen's Hamilton and Button bumming was over the top but that was orders from the producer even Steve Rider was like a teenage girl slobbering over Take That whenever he saw Hamilton, I would happily have Allen back

The whole grid looked like it had been picked out of a hat. They were always a lower end team before and after that. As more and more teams disappeared and the grid shrunk, they found themselves closer to the back. They deserved the popularity they had but you can't possibly compare them with Hispania when they've only been on the grid for a year.

He was much better suited to the pit-lane role he used to have before Murray retired. Legard has commentated on F1 for years. He did it on 5Live before David Croft (who I don't rate either) took over when Legard went back to covering football. Brundle and DC should do a good job but it does show the lack of decent commentators coming through at the BBC at the moment.

[pedant]Minardi actually only qualified 2nd, not 1st, in that race.[/pedant]
Minardi have however topped at least one timed session - in the Friday qualifying for France 2003 (whose sole purpose was to decide the order for the Saturday single-lap shootout), they ended up 1st and 2nd, however Justin Wilson was found to be underweight and had his time deleted. Jos Verstappen still ended up fastest, however it was business as usual on Saturday.

Think point still stands there been in history of F1 a team at back of field struggling very badly.
