Dan Wheldon airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following 15-car accident at Indycar race in Las Vegas. No update on his condition yet.
I've seen the crash and it's the worst multi-car accident I've seen. Cars flying through the air...

They were on about too many cars, but less card would still have happened. But flying indycars are not nice to see.

Just seen footage, looks very similar to Senna with the wheel smacking the guy on the head. .

They shouldn't be having 34 cars racing on a 1.5 mile oval.

Will they restart? I really hope they don't.
The drivers all look very upset, and in the modern age it should be known better then grieving or upset drivers are not fully concentrating.
With all drivers crying, things look severly bad.

Very sad news. RIP Dan. His drive at Indy this year was fantastic.
Amid the horrible circumstances, I think Franchitti has won the Indycar championship once more.

I didn't like the look when the wheel hit him on the helmet. So Senna-esque.

Tragic. Such a talented driver.
Serves to remind us that motorsport remains a very dangerous activity, despite the huge improvements over the years.
RIP Dan.

More sad news this morning - Moto GP rider Marco Simoncelli has died following a crash during a race in Sepang. The clip is on Youtube and it is horrific - Simoncelli has his own accident and slides across the track encountering two other bikes. His helmet came off during the incident. For those that don't follow Moto GP, Simoncelli has made a big impression this year, and certainly had the potential to be fighting for wins in the future.
It is the first death in Moto GP since Daijiro Kato's death in Suzuka 2003. Shoya Tomizawa died last year in the supporting Moto2 class in Misano.
RIP Marco
