Nickelback - Far Away
Far Away next release or rather a re-release from Nickelback. It is a slow ballad rock single which is okay but that is it, nothing to add onto what everyone knows about the band. It is easy to listen to but eventually everyone gets fed up with it.

Skepta - Rolex Sweep
Wearing My Rolex was possibly the worst musical effort I have heard this year, but now it has been surpassed! I think this song will appeal to those that wear ‘Burberry’ and ‘bling’, well it does mention Rolex's and champagne, what more do they want!
Anyway this song rather annoying, and hopefully Skepta won’t pollute my ears again in the future.

Queen + Paul Rodgers - The Cosmos Rocks
We all know Queen were one of the best bands to ever hit the airwaves, but when Freddie died we all thought that was the end of the name Queen, but alas, not quite. We now have half of Queen, plus the addition of Paul Rodgers, who originally was with Free.
So for this album I am just going on the music, and not going into the debate about whether the remains of Queen should have made a return, as albums are about music, and it should be judged on nothing but the music.
The opening track is Cosmos Rockin'which sounds very much like Status Quo's, Rockin’ Around the World; although still sounds pretty amazing. Time To Shine is the second track and to my ears an original sound, probably because of the 80’s feel to it, and I wasn’t born in the 80’s!
As the album continues, the mix of sounds is fast, from rocking tracks to slow ballads. Small is an example of the latter, which is a great sing-a-long track. Something found in this album is the amazingly deep lyrics, not like some modern bands lyrics which mean nothing, and are repetitive.
Moving onto Some Things That Glitter, which sounds like the Queen of old, with one slight change, the vocals of Rodgers are slightly less enthusiastic than those of the late Freddie Mercury, but some people just can’t be replaced..
C-lebrity, was the first single to be released from the album, with its old rockin' guitar riffs and banging drum beats. A much more lively track to lift the mood before we hit the slow and very emotional tracks 11 and 12; Through The Night and Say It's Not True.
Another upbeat moment comes next with Surf's Up . . . School's Out!, with its very summery feel with the backing noises of splashing waves, one which will sound great for many years.
This is old rock and roll which modern bands just do not have, such a shame and so nice that we can have it back for a short time. Some may say that Queen and Paul Rodgers are just money grabbers, well they might be, I don't blame them, especially when they bring out banging albums like this.

Ivyrise - Disguise
This is the second single from the exciting new band, Ivyrise. The follow up to Tips, is a heavy piano ballad, which is pretty catchy.
I am just waiting for the album now...

You Me At Six - Jealous Minds Think Alike
Compared to some of their amazingly good previous singles, this is a real anticlimax, it's too heavy and too screamo, there is just no rhythm and no tune to it. I am very annoyed that such a good band have released such a bad single, although I am still awaiting the debut album with baited breathe, hoping this is just a blip.

Axwell & Bob Sinclar feat. Ron Carroll - What A Wonderful World
Bob Sinclar must be the last French artist to really make a breakthrough in the British charts; here he has collaborated with popular Swedish DJ Axwell. On paper it is an extremely exciting line up, and it has not disappointed. A superb carefree club tune, it's just a shame about the lengthy middle section, which could be cut shorter and still have the same effect.

Basshunter - Angel In The Night
This single follows All I Ever Wanted and Now You're Gone. It sounds so similar, so if you loved the last singles, you will be drooling over this one too. Sorry to say to the haters of this genre, I think it will be around for a number of weeks again and will be played often. I am sure it will sound alright in the clubs, but for everyday life, it's a bit over the top.

Ne-Yo - Miss Independent
Normally I would be the first to criticise such artists, but this single has made me show my soft side and ultimately won me over. It is a smooth and soft R'n'B ballad, which is also infectious that you may find yourself singing along to.

Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
New Zealand isn't reknowned for its musical exports. The first assocation you have have with the country is rugby, the Haka and the stunning scenery from Lord of the Rings. Can Ladyhawke gives their music scene some credibility with her fresh sound?
The album opens promisingly with the uplifting Magic, with bouncy electro beats and excellent lyrics. This is followed up by Manipulating Woman, with more flamboyant synth beats. This album has astounding resemblance of the typical 1980's new scene music, with some strong vocals, a bit like Cyndi Lauper.
Three singles have been released off this album so far - Back Of The Van, the latest Dusk Til Dawn and the best known, written after a trip to Paris influenced Ladyhawke enough to put pen to paper and create Paris Is Burning.
If you need to add some life into your music collection, or maybe a new album for your car, this album is perfect. There is so much energy portrayed from Ladyhawke through her music and vocals, and a real passion is evident. From first listen it is very enjoyable, and never seems to disappoint. Even if you don't like electronica, really give this a chance.

Katy Perry - One Of The Boys
Kate Hudson was born in California, daughter of two pastors. Kate grew up in a musical family, releasing a Christian Gospel album with them in 2001. With her change of name, will we see the little Christian girl in Katy Perry's new album?
One Of The Boys launches the album in bubbly, energetic style. It is followed by the infamous Number 1 single I Kissed A Girl... not the kind of track you'd expect from a pastors child! Ur So Gay is seen by many as a homophobic and controversial track; an issue which has also shadowed the whole album's release. Hot N Cold follows with a different twist to the albums story. It feels like it is Kate Perry telling a story of her life experiences.
There are some nice lower tempo and emotional tracks follow, showing a totally different side to Kate Perry. If You Can Afford Me is my the track of the album, but it isn't exactly a unique single!
Over all the music is actually alright, but the politics shadowing the album can be overpowering. It's not the kind of sound you'd expect from a former Gospel family girl, but Katy Perry has every chance of succeeding.

You Me At Six - Take Off Your Colours
This is the début album from the punk band originating from Surrey. They have released singles such as Save It For The Bedroom and If I Were In Your Shoes before the release of the album.
It has the feeling of a British band trying to accomplish the sound of an American punk or rock band, while keeping British flair. It is a slightly longer album than most with 16 tracks, which means there is that risk of repetitive sound in the tracks, yet straight away it catches you with The Truth Is A Terrible Thing and Gossip.
You've Made Your Bed (So Sleep In It) is a real highlight on the album, a very catchy and energetic track. Over the half way mark now, we receive the splended riffs from the wonderfully named track Tigers And Sharks, with very catchy lyrics. Always Attract is a different sound to the rest of the album, with a slower tempo. It is a more emotional track, proving that You Me At Six are more then just loud, fast songs.
It is a genre that is like marmite, you really love it or absolutely hate it depending on your tastes, some may say it has no tune, no real musical style, yet some just love it for the energy. Overall this is a classy first album, but it has definitely 6 or 7 excellent tracks, worthy of individual singles from the 16 on offer.

Sash! ft Stunt - Raindrops (Encore Une Fois)
Apparently a remixed version of Sash!'s Encore Une Fois, yet I really can't find the comparison. It has Encore Une Fois in the lyrics, yet to the drunken ear within a club you really wouldn't notice.
Raindrops is a clubbers tune with lots of elctro synth and banging trance beats. Obviously, not one for those who find club music a total turn off yet clubbers will love it.

Guns On The Roof - New Frustration
Another band from the city of Leeds and this one is with an amplifier poking through the letterbox, they mean business when it comes to noise. The little description inside said that it contained 14 tracks of skate punk, I had nothing to lose by taking a listen.. How wrong I was, as I was due to find out.
My nightmare started with the opening track Last Orders, I can easily tell that the lead vocalist hasn't had vocal training or if he has he should be asking for a refund! It is all over the place, with a lot of screaming trying to cover the basic fact that it is too awful for my sensitive ears to hear.
Moving on to Dying which gave me the slightest of hopes that Last Orders was a blip and they were actually capable of making cohesive enjoyable music, but that hope was soon destroyed by Last Night which confirmed my initial fears; it is more screaming, drum thumping so called beats that I would describe as noise pollution!
I wish I had could elaborate more about this album but I have covered it already as it continues in the same repetitive and drab nature, noise, screeching and repeat. This isn’t really what I would describe as music.
It reaches a new low on the scale of downright awfulness on Freedom, where the lead singer is worthy of being gagged, just to try to get rid of that whiney noise that is constantly in the background of the stereo.
If you’re drunk, and want to have something to scream along to as you vomit into the toilet, or just onto your best mate, then this album may be your answer, to every other situation, this needs a label saying DO NOT TOUCH.

Sherwood - A Different Light
Sherwood are a Californian band who have toured with bands like Hellogoodbye. It is unfair to associate them with such American bands, which end up as average run of the mill specification as Sherwood appear to have much more to offer.
The first track Song in My Head starts very softly, but picks up into a rock-pop single with lots of bounce and flair. This is followed by Best in Me with an intro in a very 1980’s style. The track is catchy, which is a striking feature with the whole album.
Home has a rock style feel with a heavy-ish intro. The strong lyrics have striking similarities to such American bands as Lifehouse. Alley Cat has a totally different feel to it, with soft tones and a flowing finesse, showing a really classy touch to the album, fitting in nicely to the middle of the album.
I wish I could find a major fault with this, yet it has such a bubbly feel to it. The album was originally released in 2007, and this re-release will give more people the chance to sample the chilled out feeling of Sherwood.

Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing
From the 2007 Strictly Come Dancing winner, comes her new single, The Boy Does Nothing. Now if this song was played on a BBC channel, I wonder how many complaints it would have for being sexist against males! Anyway, a good little catchy, dancy-pop tune, although no real depth.

Gabriella Cilmi - Sanctuary
A new female singer to reach my ears and, to be honest, I got confused between Gabriella Climi and Gabrielle. To make it even more confusing, they have similar vocals and style. A calm melodic female singer, no more then the basic.

Gnarls Barkley - Who's Gonna Save My Soul?
The second single off the second album The Odd Couple is another strongly vocaled urban single with a bass beat for company. The strong lyrics make this song very powerful, making it a changing track for some people I'm sure.

The Script - Break Even
The third single off the Scripts album, Breakeven is one of my favourites, showing off the powerful vocals of the lead singer. One downer is how depressing can the lyrics get, although they are still worth listening too.

Seasick Steve - Walkin' Man
Walkin' Man is an American folk song, which would not miss a beat in an American deep south or wild west gentleman's pub. It's not everyone's cup of tea, and even for this genre is slightly slow paced, but well worth a listen.

Sigur Ros - Við spilum endalaust
Another single released from the Icelandic group Sigur Ros. Following the popularity of Hoppipolla, I was looking forward to hearing more of what the band coud offer. Unfortunately this didn't live up to my high expectations, but still a calming influence for a hectic life.
