I was thinking of Hot Chocolate earlier today and it came to me that I've never met anyone who says they dislike them. Most people seem to have a soft spot for them, or at least a few of their singles.
Same sort of thing with Abba; indeed most people adore them. Again nobody I know dislikes them.
And then there's this UB40 track that even non UB40 fans enjoy.
Does anyone dislike any of the above, and can anyone think of anything else that everyone seems to be quite fond of? YMCA perhaps?

I was only really young but I hated them - Errol Brown seriously scared me. I liked a few of Hot Chocolate's songs but they did release some rubbish too... I hate YMCA when I'm sober. I have been known to have a different opinion when under the influence of Christmas parties.

I was never a fan of Hot Chocolate either, my parents loved it, I didn't. I'd go with Abba though.

I've never been much of a fan of Hot Chocolate. I sued to work with someone who hated Abba with a passion. He was horrified when I let him know that Dancing Queen was number one the day he was born.
It would be hard to believe that anyone could dislike everything by acts like The Beatles or Madonna. I'm no fan of Madonna but there are at least a few of her songs that I like.

I don't think you'll ever find a song or an act that isn't disliked by anyone. If any act or song were to be labelled as such, there'd be a large amount of people who would immediately hate them because of it, just to be anti-mainstream.

I don't like Hot Chocolate. My goodness, I hate their most well known track You Sexy Thing; to be fair they did manage one great record that strange New Wave sounding tale of seeing a UFO "No Doubt About It"; but songs like It Started With a Kiss; Girl Crazy; Every 1's a Winner; Disco Queen & Emma; etc are so insipid and bland their back catalogue makes Wet Wet Wet seem edgy and inspired in comparison.
And as for "YMCA" I hate that song = death by overplay, just like Abba's Dancing Queen. If I hear it again in my lifetime it will be too soon.
It's no I Feel Love; I Will Survive; (You Make Me Feel) Mighty Real; Turn the Beat Around; Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight); I'm Coming Out; We Are Family; Relight My Fire ... is it. In The Navy & Go West were much better.

UB40 Rat in my Kitchen... that's a zero known song. I doubt anyone knows it...
I'd say Ub40 has more songs that more of a universal appeal, Red Red Wine for instance or I Got You Babe or I Can't Help Falling in Love (I know they're covers but still)

I think there will always be at least one person who dislikes a song, if you look at youtube it is very rare to see a song with 0 dislikes if it has been posted for some time, say at least a year or two.

I think I like 2 Madonna songs, and one of those is "Dear Jessie" which Madonna fans seem to hate. "Common People"? "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday"?

Queen. Does anyone actually dislike them? Even if they're not fans most people agree that Freddie was one of the best, if not the best, showman.

Is 'Thank You' a song? I've never been able to listen to more than about 2 seconds of it before falling asleep through sheer boredom.
The only Queen songs I like are "Radio Ga Ga" and "Innuendo". I do agree Mercury was a phenomenal frontman, but Ken Dodd had a great voice as well...
"Torn" might be a good one.

I could count the number of Queen and Abba songs I liked on one hand if I lost all four of my fingers.

Hot Chocolate - I've really grown to appreciate them. I think a seriously talented, quite under-rated (partly because difficult to pigeonhole) band, actually. If I have to name one track that really shows them as something a cut above how they are popularly perceived - "Mindless Boogie". Not exactly a bundle of laughs, but fine stuff.
But UB40! Reggae music for people who don't like reggae and don't like music, mostly, if you ask me. And who don't know much about reggae or music, too. Harsh - and certainly not universally true - but they turned into an "idiot jukebox" doing cover versions of varying degrees of quality (some really excellent, many...not so) once it became clear that that would sell a lot better than their own material. Fair enough that, one has to earn one's bread and butter, but as for artistic quality. Hmmm.

I agree with the covers bit, though it was a bit like the glam rock bands in the seventies who would dutifully mime along to the Chinnichap hits for Top Of The Pops and then rock out with their own b-sides in concert. UB40's original stuff can at times be sublime. "Food For Thought" is a masterpiece.

Sinead O'Connor has a fantastic voice but has not done herself any favours with her choice of songs.
