Speaking at last night's (May 12) BAFTA Television Awards, the showrunner insisted that many of the rumours surrounding November's celebratory episode are "absolutely mental". "Most things that have been said about the 50th are not true," he claimed. "Normally I am responsible for the disinformation and the rubbish rumours - I usually put them out myself, but I haven't needed to for this one. "People are spinning off the most amazing things - it's absolutely mental!" He quipped: "Some of them, I think, are actually quite good ideas. I might use them in future!" Moffat also insisted that this Saturday's (May 18) series finale 'The Name of the Doctor' won't leave fans "empty-handed". "I know I'm guilty sometimes of making you wait a very long time for answers, but you actually are going to get some," he said. "I won't just say, 'Oh, we'll tell you next time', - not completely anyway! You've got to leave something." The writer also addressed Doctor Who's long-term future, saying that an eighth series of the BBC sci-fi drama is "definitely confirmed".

Really looking forward to a great saturday night tv fest.
I am gonna presume that this last episode in this current seventh series will probably run into the 50th anniversary special in November and possibly that could run into the christmas day episode though i hope the christmas day episode will be totally new story.
Personally i thought that the 50th anniversary episode would become the christmas day episode but looking at it now they can put out the remaining episodes as box set 2 and then probably release the 50th and christmas episode as a 2 dvd set in the new year.

Talk about saving the best till last, I loved every minute of it. I loved the homage to the past doctors cleverly used throughout the episode, can't wait for the November episode to tie everything up, 10/10... prefection.

Now we know why the this second half of series 7 has been disappointing, as Moffatt was saving all his tricks for that unbelievably brilliant fanwank of an episode. Easily the best episode of Moffatt tenure, and proof you should not judge a Series of Dr Who until it is over, due to all what was revealed in that 45 minutes. 10/10

I said the whoavians would be w**king over those old doctor clips with Clara added in. I enjoyed it, didn't understand it, but enjoyed it.

I think I understand the use of John Hurt in the November special, they using him to play the first Dr. That's how I'm looking at it, I could be wrong.

I reckon he's the "unknown" Doctor between McGann & Eccleston ... but we'll see in November.

I reckon he's the "unknown" Doctor between McGann & Eccleston ... but we'll see in November. That's what i think too, he was the Doctor in the Timewar which makes him the 9th Doctor so that makes Matt Smith the 12th Doctor which means it's his final incarnation. Obviously the series isn't ending and Matt Smith is contracted for another year at least, which means when he does leave they'll have to come up with something pretty spectacular to make him regenerate. Pretty good episode i thought, Steven Moffatt pulled out all the stops for this one and it explained why he keeps meeting Clara.

pretty good last episode, i only recently got into dr who so went back and watched every episode since it was brought back in 2005 and i have to say this series has been the weakest by a long way. one or two decent episodes and a good final episode but nothing much inbetween, its like most the episodes were written just to make the final episode make sense

I was a bit disappointed really on how the whole season went. Splitting up into 2 parts did it no good at all.
They need to go back to showing all 13 episodes in a whole block and then lead into the xmas episode.
So is Clara Oswald a time lord as well or a robot of some kind.
As for Matt leaving when he said back in May he was staying for the 8th series. Was he forced or pushed?
John Hurt must be the doctor before William Hartnell.
How will they get round the regeneration as from earlier dr who history he can only regenerate 13 times.
Whoever takes over at the helm of the tardis will havea 2 companions -Clara and River. It will take me a whole season to get used to the change just like it did with Matt Smith as David Tennant was a hard doctor to follow but i think he did it.

I have thought for a long time that they will get round the regenerations limit by saying that it only applies to the same gender. He will be able to regenerate into a woman then back into a man and the count will start again. That means my nine-year-old nephew can still fulfil his ambition of playing the Doctor

It will take me a whole season to get used to the change just like it did with Matt Smith as David Tennant was a hard doctor to follow but i think he did it. Why do you think Clara is either of those things?! She's a normal woman who was splintered through time. Nothing more suggested as yet. And why the flip do you think she's a robot?!! Matt never actually said he was doing series 8 in any official capacity. He talked about Moffat's ideas for S8 and how they were looking forward to it and recommencing shooting etc, but only tabloids had him "confirming" the stay. Also, how could he keep his exit a surprise if the first time he was asked about leaving, he gave an honest, straight-up unambiguous "Yes" or "No!"? He wasn't forced or pushed, he had a contract which is up and chose not to extend it, as most of the previous actors have also done! Why must John Hurt be before William Hartnell? He could easily be an incarnation "between" the Doctors we know, eg. in the Time War. The Doctor can regenerate 12 times, meaning he has 13 incarnations, not 13 regenerations. They can easily say that limit was imposed by the Time Lords as in past adventures, they have been able to offer new cycles to the Msaster, and we've seen the Master and Valeyard trying to extend their own limits too. Why do you think that River will be a companion in the TARDIS? Nothing indicated that would happen. She refused permanent travel with him last year as she said there wasn't room for two psychopaths in the TARDIS. suedehead If turning into a woman reset the limit, wouldn't everyone just do that? Aside from that, no other nitpicks in your post!

There's a rumour going round online in Doctor Who circles that 90 missing episodes from the series have been found. Nothing confirmed though. Either this is just another hoax or someone (the BBC) is keeping the whole thing a closely guarded secret.
