Only the "legacy" of Lance Armstrong can stop a Bradley Wiggins victory.

Charlotte DuJardin should be on there.

You could make a list of those who've missed out and it would be stronger than some of the previous years' shortlists:
Alistair Brownlee Laura Trott Charlotte DuJardin Jonnie Peacock Jade Jones Greg Rutherford Ian Poulter Jason Kenny Hannah Cockroft Carl Froch Victoria Pendleton Sophie Christiansen

I love Jess, but Bradley for me!

My vote would have gone to Hannah Cockroft - not only has she had a great year in sport as so many others, but she really is a fantastic personality. Some of the people on the final list have the personality of a twig.

I'm a real fan of Sarah Storey, but Bradley takes my vote too.

There were the usual moans this morning about so-and-so should have been on the list.
Certainly there can be a good case made for many other sports stars to be on the final list this year but can anyone honestly say that there is a case for any of those on it not being there?
In a trademark year for British sport this could end up as an anti-climas - judging by Haveners' reaction Bradley Wiggins looks a real shoe-in.
The split Scottish vote will not help Murray and I think Farah will be second.
Third may be interesting though - very possibly Jessica Ennis but it could be so close that someone unexpected might seek it.
I would have had Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins as Team of the Year.
I really feel now that they're going to bottle it and be crass and give it to the entire Olympics and Paralympics team. This would just be a cop-out. These are not teams as I would define them but a collection of individuals. Certainly there are a lot of athletes who gave their best and deserve recognition (not just those who won medals but many who gained personal bests) but unfortunately there are a lot of members who gave sub-standard performances and do NOT deserve recognition.

Always said I would vote for Wiggins, don't see why that would change now. It's easy to put an excellent case forward for at least 6-7 athletes who aren't there to say they really should be, but then it's impossible to say any of the 12 don't deserve to be there. In a normal year someone like Carl Froch would probably have easily made the final 12(10), this year he's rightfully not in mrh's second 12.

Do you know whether duos count as a team? Similarly, the Olympic and Paralympic teams should surely count as separate temas although I also suspect they will be counted as one and will win team of the year. The only other contenders I can think of are the cycling Team Sky.

Redgrave & Pinsent, Torvill & Dean (who also won the main award) and Bob Champion & Aldaniti are among the duos who've won it in the past. The European Ryder Cup team will also be in the running and maybe the Wales rugby union team, though the Autumn tests may have ended their chances.

I thought about the Ryder Cup team but weren't sure whether they would count. I know football teams with foreign payers have won in the past but the Ryder Cup team specifically represent Europe so do they qualify?

Yes, they've won it several times, including 2 years ago when Europe won the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.

Yes, they've won it several times, including 2 years ago when Europe won the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. And I'd forgotten already! In that case, they could get it although I still suspect it will be the Olympians. How about coach and lifetime achievement ( or whaetever they call it). Has Coe won that already? If not, he must be in with a shout.

I think I heard a rumour that Coe's getting the lifetime achievement award this year.
Coach of the Year contenders: Dave Brailsford will be in the mix again. There's Alberto Salazar and Tony Minichello, coaches of Farah and Ennis, respectively. There's Jose Maria Olazabal, who captained Europe to victory in the Ryder Cup. Carl Hester, who was the mastermind behind GB's Olympic dressage success, as well as being part of the team himself, could get a mention.

I suppose they have to put duos into some category.
I would think it's almost a certainty that Lord Coe will get something or other.
I so hope the Ryder Cup Team DON'T get the team event - but I would think that's another shoe-in especially since Poulter didn't make the individual list.
Apparently the team do not have to be solely British but must have a strong British connection.

personally my choice would be mo farah, though as has been said, any one of the athletes on the list is a worthy winner, as are several who didn't even make the shortlist.
i'm hoping andy murray wins wimbledon next year in which case he should hopefully be a shoo-in for the 2013 award. i'd be very pleased to see him win this year, but i think it's pretty clear it won't be happening. jess ennis is also someone i'd like to see win.
it's difficult to argue against the wiggo train but while his achievements have been utterly staggering, a combination of not being that interested in cycling and thinking he lacks something of the personality element make me disinclined to vote for him.
