it's difficult to argue against the wiggo train but while his achievements have been utterly staggering, a combination of not being that interested in cycling and thinking he lacks something of the personality element make me disinclined to vote for him. Personality-wise, Wiggins is like Peter Kay when compared to Andy Murray.

Personality-wise, Wiggins is like Peter Kay when compared to Andy Murray. If it was on personality alone then surely Mo Farah would be the clear winner. It really should have been renamed Sportsperson of the Year ages ago but that's not likely to happen now.

After he had won the Olympic and US Open titles what really surprised me was the amount of hostility shown towards him at the YEC at the O2. It wasn't a majority of the crowd but it was quite a sizeable element. There being three Scottish nominees won't help him. Going by both Haven and othe sites it looks as Bradley Wiggins will win easily.

A good piece on the BBC site about the Overseas award. Bolt and Phelps are the obvious contenders again, but there's also David Rudisha, Federer, Serena Williams and Vettel. However, as much as I'm usually against footballers winning awards like these, there's a very strong case for Lionel Messi. I'd like to see either him or Rudisha win it.

Messi would indeed be a good choice with his new world goalscoring record. After all, beating Pele and Gerd Muller is no mean achievement. However, I still think it will be Usain Bolt.

The BBC have announced that Seb Coe will get the Lifetime Achievement award. No real surprise and no complaints from me.

In a sensational year for British Sport I just feel it is all a bit anti-climatic.
The "excitement" is missing since it is a foregone conclusion Wiggins will win.

First Englishman to win the award since Andrew Flintoff in 2005 (although I believe Joe Calzaghe was born in England).

Apparently, the selection panel "unanimously" changed the rules!! Fix!! Personally I think this is a cop out but at least it stopped The Ryder Cup team winning.

2. Jessica Ennis 372,765 (22.92%)
3. Andy Murray 230,444 (14.17%)
4. Mo Farah 131,327 (8.07%)
5. David Weir 114,633 (7.05%)
6. Ellie Simmonds 102,894 (6.33%)
7. Sir Chris Hoy 42,961 (2.64%)
8. Nicola Adams 35,560 (2.19%)
9. Ben Ainslie 35,373 (2.17%)
10. Rory McIlroy 29,729 (1.83%)
11. Katherine Grainger 28,626 (1.76%)
12. Sarah Storey 10,342 (0.64%)
Totally amazing number of votes cast in just 30 minutes.
Surprised Murray got 3rd ahead of Farah.
Lot of complaints from people saying they couldn't get through but you can't really argue with the result - Wiggins got a third more votes again than Ennis who got half as many again as Murray who in turn got half as many again as Farah.
It's all relative, of course, but you've got to smile wryly when Rusedski wins by reaching the USO final while Murray finishes 3rd when winning it plus the Olympic singles gold.
