DAY 6 GOLD MEDAL EVENTS:
BIATHLON Men's 20km
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING Women's 10km classic
FREESTYLE SKIING Men's slopestyle
LUGE Team relay
SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING Women's 500m
SPEED SKATING Women's 1000m
==========================================
Business starts picking up for GB on Day 6.
We have our first predicted medal of the games as James Woods goes in the ski slopestyle. He was heavily tipped for a medal pre-Games but an accident in training earlier in the week put his participation in doubt. He will take part but it remains to be seen whether the hip injury he suffered will hamper his performance.
Elise Christie is also tipped for a medal in the short track speed skating, but that's in the 1000m next week. Tomorrow she goes in the 500m and if she can get into the final, history suggests anything is possible in that particular sport.
GB's best hope of a gold medal in these games is Lizzy Yarnold in the skeleton. She won this season's World Cup title, having won 4 of the 8 events and achieved 7 podium finishes. She's consistently topped the time sheets in training and she looks well-positioned to follow in the footsteps of Amy Williams four years ago. The competition starts on Thursday, with the medals being decided on Friday. GB has never failed to win a medal in this event since it was introduced in 2002. Alex Coomber won bronze in Salt Lake City and Shelley Rudman took silver in Turin. Rudman returns again and although her best days are probably behind her, she remains a big time performer, as shown when she took gold at the World Championships a year ago. She's struggled a bit in training but has improved as the week has gone on and her big championship experience means she can't be ruled out of a medal.

James Woods 5th in the slopestyle. He was 3rd after the first run but I think the injury limited how much he could do and those ahead of him pulled out some big moves.
Elise Christie through to the 500m final at 12:10!
The women curlers beat China this morning to take their record to 2-2. 6-3 should definitely be enough to reach the semis. 5-4 might do it as well.

And forgot to mention Lizzy Yarnold almost half a second ahead of the rest of the field at the halfway stage in the skeleton, with a track record on her first run. The final two runs are tomorrow afternoon.

Christie finishes 2nd in 500m but is penalised for causing a fall and is relegated to 4th... That has to hurt. And in the end, thanks to speed skating's stupid rules, she was relegated to 8th. I don't even think the crash was her fault. She went for a gap and the Italian skater just tried to close the door and smashed into her. I don't know how the rules are worded in speed skating or where the burden of responsibility lies but in an F1 race, that would've been the Italian's fault every time. Better news in the curling, where the men's team won again this afternoon, beating the USA to take their record to 4-1, which puts them 2nd in the standings. Looking good for a semi-final place though they still have some hard matches to come.

Haven't been able to see as much of the curling as I would have liked unfortunately.
I have a conflict now when GB plays the US.
Hope it was a good contest.

It was a good curling match but I think GB was more in control than the US was. I think the Norwegian curling team's pants need a shout out! Superb

DAY 7 GOLD MEDAL EVENTS:
ALPINE SKIING Men's super combined
BIATHLON Women's 15km
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING Men's 15km classic
FIGURE SKATING Men's
FREESTYLE SKIING Women's aerials
SKELETON Women's
==================================
GB should see an increase to the medal tally on Day 7 with the conclusion of the women's skeleton. Lizzy Yarnold has a lead of almost half a second over the rest of the field, having set the fastest time on both runs so far. Shelley Rudman lies in 11th place at the halfway stage and a medal for her seems very unlikely now.

www.bbc.com/sport/0/winter-olympics/26180380Plushenko Catching up this evening and I have to say this was very sad. The guy was superb in the team event. It must have hurt so much to be unable to perform in the individual competition in front of his home fans.

Another track record for Lizzy Yarnold in Run 3 of the skeleton. Her lead is more than three-quarters of a second going into the final round in about half an hour.
