First events happen on Thursday with the opening ceremony on Friday.
Anyone interested or boycotting?
Favourite sports?
Mine is definitely speed skating.

Are we boycotting because it's in Russia? I enjoy the bobsleigh, and yeah the speed skating is fun as well, shall take in the highlights shows maybe?

It is all good for our timings with Russia being 3 hours ahead. Well yes some people are on about boycotting because of it being in Russia. We'll have this same issue in 4 years time too.

Boycotting - of course not.
Will catch some of it but for the most part winter sports aren't my thing.

I think Mel and our daughter may watch some of the ice skating as well. Oh and ice hockey, I love ice hockey especially when it gets physical!

I will be watching loads of it:
love love love curling and skeleton (and we usually stand a good chance of medals in both)
alpine skiing is always very good, (giant slalom is my favourite)
bobsleigh, ice hockey, ski jumping are all worth a watch aswel

Ah, I see where you're coming from. You start a thread about the Olympics and immediately switch the subject to football.

Anyway, back on topic...
I love the Winter Olympics. And it sounds like we have more medal chances than ever before. We'll certainly be disappointed if we don't win at least one medal in the women's skeleton, given we have two major contenders.
I'll watch all of the downhill skiing, the bobsleigh and the ski-cross, which, if you haven't seen it before, is really exciting. My Canadian colleagues are looking forward to their teams winning both of the ice hockey tournaments, so I'll be looking out for those matches too.

Should be a good watch, with GB tipped to have its best Winter Olympics ever (not that that takes much doing). UK Sport has set a target of between 3 and 7 medals and we have gold medal chances in skeleton, short-track speed-skating and curling.
Infostrada, whose predictions created a lot of talk in 2012, have predicted 6 medals for GB, with gold for Lizzy Yarnold in the skeleton. The other predicted medals for GB are silver for Shelley Rudman in the skeleton, and the women's curling team, and bronze medals for the men's curling team, speed skater Elise Christie and freestyle skier James Woods.
One name to look out for could be cross-country skier Andrew Musgrave, who became a household name in Norway a few weeks ago, when he won the sprint event at its national championship. A possible surprise medal contender?
