Not bad considering it was effectively a handicap match with that back 5. The negatives: It highlighted the complete lack of depth we have defensively. You can forgive Luke Shaw - he's young and inexperienced and he's learning on the job. Jones and Smalling should know better. And hopefully Milner will never play another game at right-back in his career (or spend a minute on the pitch at the World Cup). Wilshere was poor as well. Out of the midfielders, I'd probably only have Milner behind him in the pecking order now. The problems with possession came back to haunt England during the final half hour and cost them the victory. Up until then, they'd been easily the better side. The positives: We looked very exciting going forward, especially compared to the Peru game. Oxlade-Chamberlain had a great game and hopefully his injury isn't serious. Barkley and Sterling both caused problems as well. England could terrify defences with those guys on the pitch. Lambert took his goal well and is more than justifying his inclusion ahead of Andy Carroll. Agree with a lot of what you say but I think you're being harsh on Milner. The strange thing is that I actually imagined him possibly playing in that position as a last resort, ie 4th choice behind Johnson, Jones/Smalling, (seem to remember he's filled in at full back in the closing stages of a game for England before), but was surprised to discover yesterday morning that he was going to start there. He shouldn't play at right-back again, but I wouldn't have a problem with him coming on in midfield to see out a game, or starting against Italy if that's the way Hodgson wants to go. Imo that was Oxlaide-Chamberlain's best game for England, clear MOTM for me. Actually came as a bit of a shock to discover he was injured as he went off during the 5-10 mins which I missed. Oh, and the best thing about ITV's coverage? Having the +1 channel which meant I could finish watching the tennis and then watch the England game after. Now for the BBC to bring in their +1 service...

I believe BBC are bringing in a +1 service Should have worded it differently. I know which is why I mentioned it, but have got absolutely no idea when.

Oxlade-Chamberlain reportedly out for between 10 days and 3 weeks. With that time-frame, I'd keep him in the squad. There's no like-for-like replacement on the standby list. Best case scenario is the Ox only misses the first game. Worst case scenario is he misses the entire group stage but he could still play a part as an impact substitute in the knockout stages, which would've been his most likely role anyway, even without the injury.

The Oxlade-Chamberlain decision doesn't have to be made until Friday next week. If he looks like only missing the first group game by then, it os probably best to keep him in the squad. However, if he is likely to miss all three group games then keeping him would be a big risk. Do we want a player who might not be fit for any of England's games? If we could be confident of getting out of the group it would be a different matter. However, getting into the knock-out stage is far from certain.

Anyone know if there are any highlights shows for the late games, or to sum up all the games played each day, I can see a highlights show for the first game, but nothing after that. I was hoping for more highlights shows to catch up on some of the late games. I dont want to have to watch them online!

BBC's doing a daily highlights show at 7:30am during the early stages of the tournament. Once there are no more late matches, there will be highlights shows on the night.

The warm up match in Miami is suspended due to a electrical storm, play is meant to resume in 30 minutes.
I hope they call it off

I think having the hosts open the tournament rather than the champions is the way to go. Better atmosphere and a team wanting to please the crowd with a win, rather than a team with a target on their backs and everything to lose.

So South Africa had the poorest showing of any World Cup Finals host.
