Reading have signed Stephen Quinn from Hull and Orlando Sa from Legia Warsaw who was at Fulham in 2011/12. Any thoughts guys?
Also arranged a pre-season friendly against Espanyol. I think that's the first home pre-season game against foreign opposition since Feyenoord in 2006! Don't know much about sa. I remember him being at Fulham but don't remember him playing. Quinn is a brilliant signing though. Looked comfortable both in premiership and for Ireland when I've seen him

For a club that isn't expected by many to be challenging for the playoffs this season I was surprised by Quinn, and really wanted to see if being impressed was misguided, seems not! Nice to feel excited by news coming from the club for a change.

Yeah it's always nice signing a player of decent quality. A few more like that and it could be an iteresting season coming up. I'm surprised he hasn't gone to a Sunderland or a Leicester

Most punters expected Leicester to get relegated last season, and they finished 14th having won seven and drawing one of their last 10 games last season to secure Premier League survival. Insane.

When Sky have jiggered em all up, can someone let me know, so I can get picking them for Footy Predicta, ta Stags have Carlisle at home first game, then Sheff Weds away in the cup, followed by Notts County away which I'd have gone to, if I wasn't on bloody holiday, grrr. Just have to go to the home game instead! They've done the jiggering up until the end of September. The first jigger usually takes us up to the end of November, but maybe the storming start Southampton had the last two seasons has made them rethink a bit. One thing to watch out for in terms of both Predicta and Fantasy: Aston Villa v Man Utd (GW2) has been moved forward to Friday 14th August. A sign of things to come, with 10 live Friday night games per season from 2016/17.

Paul McShane from Hull and goalkeeper Jonathan Bond from Watford. My initial reaction for McShane was not good enough for the Prem (always remember his performance for Sunderland at the Mad Stad in the 2nd PL season which probably colours my judgement) but at Championship level and also being a bit younger than I thought (29) he should be decent enough I guess.
Don't know much about Bond other than he's been in the England U21 squad recently, but signing a young goalkeeper who hasn't been no 1 in the Championship strikes me as a gamble. Federici on last season's form is going to be very hard to replace.

Speaking of Fri night games, I notice that Reading-Ipswich has been moved by Sky to the Fri 8pm ko on 11th September.
Leeds seem to be on Sky most weeks in August...except against Reading so i'm hoping to go to that

The new FIFA World Rankings are out, and Wales are up to the top 10 for the first time, meaning that they'll be in Pot 1 for the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, for which the draw is in a few weeks. Italy and France are both in pot 2, along with Iceland. Pot 3 contains Scotland and Northern Ireland, while the Republic of Ireland are down in Pot 4. Gibraltar are not yet a FIFA member, so are not eligible to enter qualifying. Full pots here

that's mental
England, France/Italy, Ukraine, Turkey, Armenia, Kazakhstan is probably the hardest group we could get

Jem Karacan to Galatasaray was confirmed a few days ago
I probably wouldn't be so gutted at this if his return from injury had gone according to plan. Thought he'd be back by Christmas but he only returned in January and barely played until April. Even next year after a season back to his best I could have accepted, but after almost 2 years in which he was either injured or had minimal impact just seems unfair.
No problem with the choice of club though, I think he could have joined them at 14, sure I remember there being interest in him around that age, and he said it's been a dream to play for them ever since he was a kid. Also, if he gets games for them, which seems unlikely atm, there's more chance of playing for Turkey.

Fiji have qualified for next year's men's Olympic football tournament, thanks partly to New Zealand being disqualified at the Pacific Games, which is acting as Oceania's qualifying tournament. New Zealand fielded an ineligible player in the semi-final against Vanuatu, after originally winning 2-0. Vanuatu were awarded a 3-0 victory and went through to the final, where they lost on to Fiji on penalties.
This is the same tournament where Micronesia played in the group stage and lost their three games by a combined margin of 114-0.
