I guess Paddy when the gk brings a player down, but it's a genuine attempt for the ball, and the player is taking the ball away from the goal, then it will only be a yellow card.

Be easier just to make that a rule! But wouldn't that be in the pulling, pushing or tripping a player is void category? EDITL Tripping isn't part of that category. Go back to sentence one.

quell mass confusion
I noticed gk now get yellow carded if they come off their line when a player is taking a penalty
90% of gk come off their line so should be interesting

What's even dafter with the gks coming off their line, is when they have the extra (useless) officials stood there, who can quite clearly see they've come off their line! I'm not sure it should be a yellow card offence though, just retake the penalty if saved. Are they going to book players for encroaching on the penalty area?

Eamonn Dolan died on Tuesday, was only 48.

Only just discovered this terrible news. I actually thought about him recently and the lack of any news on his progress made me fear the worst. Hoped he would become first team manager for years, and there's no doubt that his influence in the academy will be sorely missed.
Those that have paid tribute to him, both on that bbc article and elsewhere, couldn't have spoken more highly of him. Absolutely fantastic tribute paid to him by Brian McDermott in particular.
Absolute Reading legend and a massive loss to the club. RIP

For the third season in a row, Southampton have started cashing in on their best players. And once again it is Liverpool who are splashing out. At some point the wheels are going to come off the Saints wagon, although I'm yet to be convinced that Liverpool are really getting it together. Sadio Mane is never worth £34,000,000.
Anyway, Liverpool have now spent £102,000,000 on six Southampton players in the last few years, which makes it quite funny that Southampton have accumulated 1 league point more than Liverpool since August 2014.
Man Utd have spent £52,000,000 on 2 Saints players and Arsenal £41,000,000 on 3 players in the recent past. You'd think they would get better value by developing their own scouting networks and youth policies, rather than just raiding their rivals' one season wonders.

Time for next season's thread I think... I was looking for a new thread but couldn't see one so I'll post this most embarrassing of scorelines from the Champions League Qualifying Second Round, 1st Leg here: Lincoln Red Imps 1 Celtic 0 What a start for Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36761213Lincoln Red Imps play in the Gibraltar Premier Division, are a semi-professional football club and have won their domestic league for the last 14 years on the trot and apparently ground share with every other team that plays in Gibraltar! What a humiliation for Celtic...

What a humiliation for Celtic... Just about shows how far Scottish football has fallen. Only a 10 - 0 score in Glasgow will counter this, but even then it will still be in the record books.
