Sky are reporting that ex Newcastle, Spurs and Aston Villa footballer David Ginola has been rushed to hospital in France after suffering a suspected heart attack. He is apparently unconscious but in a stable condition. Fingers crossed that he pulls through.
He was a smoker when he was at Newcastle and possibly still is so that's one thing he'll have to give up.
He was absolutely brilliant at Newcastle but left the club after falling out with then manager Kenny Dalglish. My favourite goal by Ginola is this wonderful goal against Ferencvaros in the Champions League in October 1996

Sky Sports have just announced that there's going to be a massive shake-up of the Football League structure. From the start of the 2019/20 season there will be five professional leagues (including the Premier League)of 20 clubs in each league. Details are still a bit sketchy at the moment.

It's not confirmed yet - it requires approval of 90% of the clubs. My main concern is what happens below the Football League. If the pyramid remains unchanged, that would give us 6 national divisions, which is ridiculous. If they remove a tier of the non-league pyramid, then I might be in favour but the powers that be still can't get their head around one of the biggest problems being not enough regionalisation.

The general principle is fine, but they should consider the best place to start splitting into regions. At the very least it should be the highest tier outside the Football League, but they should consider extending it to the bottom tier of the league itself.

They can sod right off, always trying to bloody change it, why? It would mean the bottom 10 of div 2 relegated to the 5th tier!

Meanwhile, the Ginola situation seems to be not as bad as first feared and he apparently fainted rather than had a heart attack. He's tweeted to say he's OK...

There seems to be some confusion about the condition David Ginola is in. According to a journalist who was there when Ginola collapsed he had to have emergency heart massage as he had no pulse and despite reassurances on his twitter account (said to have been posted by his agent) Ginola was actually in a coma and is still not out of danger.

My son had a heart bypass operation when he was young and they are usually successful.
He is now 49 so his professional career is behind him, so assuming he survives, he'll probably be asked to take it easy. Unlike Fabrice Mwamba who had to retire from the game, although in his case, that he survived at all was quite a miracle.

In Russia Dinamo Moscow left top level league for the first time (include Soviet Union period) after eighty consecutive years (1936-2016), but it's still the impressive achievement for any football club in any country.

Well that England performance was not impressive they have to be much better if they want a chance of winning the tournament.

Didn't see the game as I was at work. You can't tell much from friendlies. A few weeks back, England beat the world champions, then lost to a team that didn't even qualify for the Euros.
As it is, I can't see England winning the tournament. If they get to the quarters, they've done well. Anything less would be a disappointment.

Good news (for once!) coming from St James Park - Rafa Benitez has decided to stay at Newcastle and has signed a three year contract.
Mike Ashley must have opened up his cheque book to get Rafa to stay.
I love it!

England have no chance of winning a tournament for a long time, unless they somehow manage a "spirit of Leicester" (or Greece 2004 or Denmark 1992) about them.
2004 would have been our best chance, had the FA not essentially destroyed our chances by giving Rio Ferdinand such a long ban that it ruled him out. I believe with him in the heart of our defence we'd have been good enough to win it.

Clubs are starting to announce who is being released at the end of their contracts.
Southampton's list includes:- club legend (captain & goalkeeper) Kelvin Davis, now 39 and the beneficiary of a testimonial during the past few weeks; and Gaston Ramirez, Uruguayan international who featured for Middlesbro on loan this season in their promotion campaign.
Ramirez thus becomes the first player that Southampton have lost more than £5 million on in transfer fees. They paid £11m for him, and will not be getting anything when he leaves.
To balance this up, Southampton have sold 15 players for £5m or more than they paid for them. The full list:- Luke Shaw +£27m Adam Lallana +£25m Morgan Scheiderlin +£24m Calum Chambers +£16m Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain +£12.5m Theo Walcott +£12m Nathaniel Clyne +£12m Dejan Lovren +£11.5m Dean Richards (RIP) +£8.1m Wayne Bridge +£8m Gareth Bale +£7m Kevin Davies +£6.6m Kenwyne Jones +£6m Peter Crouch +£5m James Beattie +£5m
From that list, only Bale has subsequently been sold at a profit, although all of the top 8 are still at the clubs Southampton sold them to (Man Utd x2, Liverpool x3, Arsenal x3).
