Ive just been picking their original release dates in original country a lot of the time. as long as their UK release was in the same decade I'm not overly fussed because it is just a countdown of songs I like, its taken me 200 hours to skim source information, I don't have the time or the will to check for original release information, re-release information, double check dates and chart positions then find out if it was uk or usa, its just meant to be a little bit of background info

62. Space – Female Of The Species www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-wIvsZBFhQ"Female of the Species" is a song by the English rock band Space, released as their fourth single, and second single proper from their debut album Spiders on 27 May 1996, reaching #14 in the UK charts. Written and sung by frontman Tommy Scott in tribute to his late father, who was reported to dislike his son's taste of music, "Female of the Species" is a funky, upbeat Latin-flavoured number with feel-good sounding vibes and vocals reminiscent of lounge singers such as Perry Como and Frank Sinatra combined with keyboardist Franny Griffiths' trademark sound effects and Scott's dark humoured lyrics. When the song was performed at later concerts, Scott usually walked into the audience to shake the front concert-goers by the hand.

It was also the only single that gained significant exposure in the US, reaching number 25 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1997. Paul Draper later wrote that he was the sole writer and performer of the song. In the liner notes of Legacy: Best Of, Draper explained having recorded the entire song sans the vocals six months before he wrote the lyrics.

52. Semisonic – Secret Smile www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DNht5da6YMSecret Smile" is a song by American rock band Semisonic. The 1999 single was one of the cornerstones of the band's international success. The song was featured in the film Simply Irresistible and in the TV series Charmed and Dawson's Creek. Songwriter Dan Wilson has said that the melody for the song came to him in a dream, and he woke up in the middle of the night, rushed to a piano, and wrote it down. As a songwriter and producer, Wilson has collaborated with a number of artists. Two of these collaborations have earned him Grammy Awards. A number of artists have described Wilson's ability to help put their feelings and ideas into song. Speaking of her experience of working with him, Pink said, in an online interview, "He is brilliant, and he's a thoughtful songwriter. And he's a song crafter . . . like old-school. He crafts songs and he thinks about them. And I learned a lot from working with him.” In describing her co-writing with Wilson, Adele said, "Dan had me on my hands and knees, crying my eyes out - there's just something about him that made me completely open up as a composer." 50. Ocean Colour Scene – The Riverboat Song www.youtube.com/watch?v=brzzM31G4x8The song is heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin's "Four Sticks", from which it takes its main riff and a number of lyrics. The song is notable in that it is in 6/8 swing time, like Led Zeppelin's "Four Sticks", and not the more common 4/4 time normally used in rock music. The song was popularised by Radio 1 DJ Chris Evans, who played it frequently on his radio shows and to introduce guests on his television programme TFI Friday. As a result, having been released in February 1996, it reached number 15 in the UK Singles Chart, paving the way for the success of the next two singles, "You've Got It Bad" (7) and "The Day We Caught the Train" (4) and the album Moseley Shoals.
