Lost is a very good comparison, at least during the earlier seasons when the writing was brilliant! 5 episodes into this series and I'm convinced the show is better off going on ahead of GRRM. Every episode so far has had a gripping ending (probably the execution at the Wall being the least so) and I don't think any episode has been filler so far. They even made the Iron Islands exciting!

How will Bran do his visions into the past for us to find out some back story?

How will Bran do his visions into the past for us to find out some back story? I'm hoping he's either now more connected to the past so he can go whenever he wishes or else he just needs another Weirwood tree to do it or some such nonsense! We need to see more of the past.

Maybe any old treè will do, or even any piece of wood at all, in fact the sled he is on is made of wood? I loved how a bit of snow misdirected the undead despite the fact that King ice walker can tune into Bran now anyway!

I loved how a bit of snow misdirected the undead despite the fact that King ice walker can tune into Bran now anyway! I think it's that there was some kind of magic preventing them from entering. At the end of season 1 there were undead attacking them which fell to pieces as they tried to enter the cave. Being connected to Bran must have somehow dispelled that magic.

It finally happened, that was the first 'filler' episode of this series. Game of Thrones might be the only TV show I can think of where something as huge as Uncle Benjen showing up for the first time since season 1 happens, and it's still only a filler episode! I do agree that it lacked the punch of most of the rest of the series so far. It was nice to see our old pal Walder Frey again But I think as a set-up episode, it was quite important. The KL plot really needs to move forward. Tommen is a complete wally. Jaime and Cersei are boring me together - it's all a bit reminiscent of Daenerys with the 'we will do this! we will do that! they'll REALLY wish they hadn't messed with us!' and not actually doing anything about it. I'm glad he's going to the Riverlands - and am looking forward to the return of the Blackfish. Could we finally be on for Operation Avenge the Starks? Speaking of the dragon lady, she gave a very nice but I thought ultimately pointless speech (surely they are following her anyway?) but it was nice to see Drogon again! I'm enjoying Arya's little theatre troupe more and more - I hope she joins them when she leaves the Faceless Men. Oh, and does anyone else think Jaqen knows that Arya will kill the Waif rather than the other way around?

It looked like Arya's days were numbered, but she got the sword out, so that may surprise the waif? Great speech at the end, but as Greend says, they didn't need rallying, but hey any scene that has a dragon in like that, wow! And yes Benjen is back, and I think he knows the big secret about Jon Snow, so maybe Bran doesn't need his visions any more. Nice that Samwell got some balls, and took the Valyrian sword, could come in handy I enjoyed it, liked that Jaime was thwarted. Were Tommen and Margery both converted do we think, or is Margary still plotting?

When Daddy Tarly was going on and on about that Valyrian steel sword and how rare it was I wanted Sam to say 'oh yes, my mate Jon has one of those' Nice catch about Benjen - you could be right! I wouldn't be surprised if he tells Bran... Oh and Marg is totally still plotting

I was a bit dissappointed with the Benjen appearance. I'm assuming he's taking the role of Cold Hands, but I swear GRRM already said that it wasn't Benjen. Nevermind, I guess it's an easy way for the show writers to cover both aspects.
I think they were relying too much on a dragon scene to make the episode exciting, but as has already been said, the speech was so pointless and a little annoying, kind of like when my parents would tell me to wash the dishes while I was already on my way to wash them as a child. They're already following you dear, stop going on about it!
Too much time was spent with Sam and Gilly and it was boring as hell! I'm glad there's another V sword in the mix, just wish it didn't take so much screen time to get it.
The KL scene was so underwhelming after the build up and plotting a few episodes previous. Was almost hoping for a cull of Tyrell's at the hands of Cersei and Jamie.
I am sure Margery is still playing a game though, the scene she had in the dungeon with her brother implied she had a master plan.
I think the most exciting thing about the episode was the flashbacks at the beginning and getting to see the Mad King! I hope this means we'll get to see more of that as it goes on. I hope there's a twist in that story that we don't know about, another example of how the history books report the wrong tellings, like at the Tower of Joy.

I'm growing to like Sam and Gilly, she's so nice and stands up for him, and he's never had that, and he finally grew some cojones to do what is best for him, moving the story on, still dont know where it's going with them though. I like the fact that the sand snakes did what they did, and nothing's been done, and its not mentioned at the moment. Jaime heading up to Riverrun could be interesting, will Brienne save him, as I think the Lannisters could be in for a wake up call there. What's happening with the Boltons as well? Yes, also liked the glimpse we got of the Mad King, and the greenfire. The Arya storyline, have we been conned all this time, or was the point of the story to show her inherent goodness, ie white rather than black? We all thought she was being primed to kill a major character, but now it looks unlikely, so again, what is the point of her?

I can't imagine what GRRM's plans were for Benjen for him not to be Coldhands, but if he didn't plan for him to be that, it's interesting that the show's gone that way. He's definitely dead though isn't he? They said he was turned by the Night's King, then the Children undid it by stabbing him with something else, but I figure that makes him fairly dead, no?! Margery had better be playing, as she's been such a tough character. I know her seeing her brother was meant to break her slightly, but she's better than brainwashing. Can't wait to see the High Sparrow get his ass whupped as I hoped he had made one of those "Oh God's changed his mind" decisions when confronted by Jaime, but he'd got the upper hand AGAIN! Grrrrr!!!

I'm sure margaery is playing a game to save her and his brother. She manipulated tommen, which is pretty easy because that kid is stupid. That's what happens when Brothers and sisters are having kids together. I think I even liked Geoffrey better.

I've been surprised by aria but I'm happy to see the old arya starck back. She learned a lot in that temple but she doesn't belong there. She has a revenge to take. She didn't lose her time, she is now really strong and a real badass.
