I'm never confident of anything with Mansfield Town FC Tom, but it is looking a lot brighter now, and the players are playing well and conceding few goals, it's how they react if they lose a game that is important. I'm quietly confident, but as Mansfield Town FC fan, you get used to being disappointed and kicked while you're down, so I wont get excited til we are safe in the playoffs, and you know that's going to be at the end of the season! To make the playoffs would be great and generate some real excitement, and you never know what might happen. The club deserve some good feeling after the chairman has backed Evans with the players he's brought in. It's certainly going to be an interesting end to the season for both our clubs!
I was thinking the other day this could potentially be the season that I have more interest in the playoffs than any other. Obviously Reading are there atm but most of the teams in L1 playoffs and half of those in the L2 playoffs have an interest for me for one reason or another.

In one of my rare betting occursions I've just placed a £5 bet on Newcastle to beat Aston Villa by 5-0 tonight. Which is probably the kiss of death for us! Though as it's 80-1 it was too good to resist...

Wow, really Robbie, you could have just given me the fiver and then I'd give it you back after the game, when it doesn't finish 5-0.
Stags on a rollercoaster ride down now after losing 3-0 to Grimsby, does Steve Evans have a plan B, when teams suss us out or want it more, if not, we're screwed! Off to see them on Saturday play Newport!

Manchester City, in 1938, were relegated the season after winning the league. If only they could have shown some of that poor form the previous season, Charlton Athletic would have been champions. Strangely, even in relegation I think they scored more goals than any other team. But they gave a lot of goals away.
Leeds were close to relegation in 1992-93 too, but just about avoided it thanks to a good home record.

I think a 5-0 win for Newcastle is a tad optimistic, but a 4-0 win is possible. Also, just discovered that one of the Sutton players is ex Reading academy. Dan Spence, released in 2009, and is also a teaching assistant in Reading. He also played for Mansfield in their Fa Trophy final defeat in 2011... o I do remember the name, I don't think the youngsters we had coming through at that time were particularly good.

Dan Spence, was that the guy from the glen hoddle academy, I thought he was quite useful, but he left us. And Robbie, you're 1/5th of the way there with 45 mins left...

I had come here to post I'm a fifth of the way to £400 but you beat me to it! Though Villa have been the better team in the first half...

Yep, the article I read mentioned he was at the Glenn Hoddle academy. Always interesting when you have a cup story as you can be reminded of players you'd forgotten about (and that Mansfield had more than one ex Reading player!) Wrong thread but meant to say at the weekend that Sean Raggert who got Lincoln's winner was signed from Dover, thought it was a bit of an odd move for him at the time but its worked out rather well for him! They even did a feature on him on the local news this evening.

Ah well, I didn't win the 400 notes but the most important thing was Newcastle won the game. We are back on top and are one step closer to getting promoted.

In breaking news, Owen Coyle has been sacked as manager of Blackburn. They haven't had the best run of results but I think that's a bit harsh.

Another piece of breaking news from Sky Sports News is that the Sutton United reserve goalkeeper has resigned after a pie eating incident in their match against Arsenal! Quite what that is all about, goodness knows!

One of the Sutton players, Nicky Bailey, used to play for Charlton Athletic. Left us in 2010 after missing the penalty that denied us a play-off final against our local rivals, and went up himself to play in the Championship anyway.

Ah, Wayne Shaw, read an interview with him the other day. Was sacked by Sutton after headbutting an opposition fan only to be signed up again by Sutton a year or so later. He's more than just a goalkeeper/goalkeeping coach, there's other stuff he does for the club as well. He sleeps at the club half the week as he turns off the floodlights at 10pm as he doesn't live locally. So to resign over this seems quite extreme, unless he's worried about the consequences?
Also, just discovered about Owen Coyle before coming on here, assumed he'd resigned so to find out he's been sacked is rather odd. Why now? I don't think they've been any worse recently, and they've had some unlucky results. Blackburn fans have thought they've been going down all season, so shouldn't they have sacked him months ago?

Blackburn have appointed Tony Mowbray. That'll be why Coyle was sacked then...

He was stood while eating the "pie" and it looked suspiciously like a pasty to me! I did wonder what was going on when he started doing it in the 75th minute, just assumed he was playing up to the cameras and the fat gk tag! As Tom says he does so much more at the club, so I hope he will be back again soon. Stop the betting places having silly bets on things that can be rigged and this wouldn't have happened anyway!

It seems he was also on a morning TV show yesterday, and said that they're not meant to bet but some of the lads do, which seems more damning! Maybe he felt that he'd put the club in a difficult position? Still feels such a shame though, I actually didn't see the incident itself though I've seen a clip of it since.

Leicester sack Claudio Ranieri! I've just read this on the BBC website. What a sad ending to what least season had been a fairytale story, I quite like the guy and have done since he was at Chelsea in 2003. I wonder who will take his place?
