Bournmouth up 3-0 and Arsenal bring it back to 3-3.
Must have been some game and Bournmouth must be gutted.

you never know, depends if Brighton can last the pace I think Brighton have got automatic promotion wrapped up now, they look very hard to beat. If either of the two are in danger it's Newcastle, they've lost quite a lot already and have played a game more than us. Still don't see it though.

Just discovered that Alan Smith is now Notts County manager, doesn't seem that long ago that he was still playing!
Thoughts Robin ?

Think he'd prefer Jesus as they need a miracle to stay up based on current form... Spurs beating Chelsea keeps the Premier League interesting.

Scottish cup tie for Raith on Sunday against Premiership team Hearts at home.
Our manager Gary Locke is a former hearts player and manager along with some of team players he has brought in including Rudi Skacel and Ryan Stevenson.
We are on a very poor run at the moment and can't score in a brothel.
Expecting at least a 4-0 defeat despite Hearts struggling under new manager Ian Cathro.

He had a couple of seasons at Southampton, during the period of decline and financial mismanagement, and was one of our stand-out players. I would imagine he is a talented elder statesman at Raith.

He has done nothing. Been a massive waste of a wage. Nothing like his former glories. Unfortunately Locke has brought in a few over the hill players who have seen the day and shipped out our good youth or not given them a chance. He just loaned Lewis Vaughan to our rivals, a 21 year old with lots of energy. Replaces him with Ryan Stevenson, another player living on past glories. A tank moves better than him. And don't get me started on the talented joel coulstrain and Yaw osei, who both perform excellently every week in development league, is always benched. Last home game joel came on 90th min when game was crying out for him in 60th. Anyway, yes Skacel is still playing...well supposedly.

Thoughts Robin ? Well Alan Smith lasted one game. He was only temporary anyway. The new manager is Kevin Nolan, he has one hell of a challenge on his hands if he is to turn the club around. On the positive side we've finally got rid of the incompetent and clueless owner, Ray Trew. The club was rotten under his ownership!! Hopefully the new owner will be better at making key recruitment decisions. The run of ten consecutive defeats ended last Saturday, but I feel until we build a better squad we will only see only minimal improvement.

Yes I saw Kevin Nolan was now the manager, which confused me not knowing that Alan Smith was temporary. Is Alan Smith part of the coaching set-up or has he been ditched completely?

Rangers have sacked / replaced their manager. Mark Waburton has been sacked though to confuse things Warburton has said he hasn't been sacked and is still in charge. Very confusing! Thank goodness I'm a good Catholic and support the green and whites called Celtic

Thank goodness I'm a good Catholic and support the green and whites called Celtic The main interest for me in all this is that the interim manager is Graeme Murty! (Ex Reading captain who played for us for 11 years and was part of the best team we've ever had and maybe the best team we will have). Didn't even know he was at Rangers, he seems to have had quite a few academy jobs in a relatively short space of time since retiring. Many people thought he'd come back to Reading after he retired, staying on at Southampton made sense but then I thought it was interesting that he then went to Norwich with whom he had no connection, and also wasn't particularly local either.
I've since discovered why he probably won't ever be welcome back at Reading in a coaching capacity (the reason is in one of the first two Secret Footballer books).

BiB: he wasn't doing an "Alan Pardew" (having a fling with one of the player's wives) by any chance? Or was it something a bit worse?

Nah, it was probably worse than that i'd say, though the players wives would also have been involved. Not sure how much I can say on here really, but i'm happy to expand, although given how much investigation I did surrounding events at the time through our forum and bits I remember I suspect it would be long-winded!
I'll just cover broadly the aftermath of what was mentioned in the book, TSF said he's never seen someone so ostracised at a club before (and this fits with what I dug up), and the season fell apart afterwards. Murty was one of my favourite players for the way he'd fought back from persistent injury, converted himself from a winger into a first team full-back, and became a Premier League player which i'm not sure many people would have seen coming before that first promotion. Sadly what happened has badly tarnished my opinion of him, and what's more I can't help feeling that without what happened we may have stayed up in 2008 (even though around that time I didn't really think we deserved to).

^ I'm intrigued. Google doesn't seem to be throwing up any results. No problem if you don't want to say what he was up to but it's certainly intriguing.

^ I'm intrigued. Google doesn't seem to be throwing up any results. No problem if you don't want to say what he was up to but it's certainly intriguing. Oh go on then, you've convinced me. Basically his wife was involved in the Royal Families charity which all the WAGS took part in. There was an auction set up by his wife and it turned out that all the money for said event was going into a personal account. It was his testimonial year and the chairman had told him they weren’t interested in testimonial requests as players earned enough (I remember John Madejski saying that). As I said I did some digging, and at the start of March 2008 he was dropped through injury (an unspecified one IIRC) and missed a warm weather training camp (which I think was in La Manga). During the training camp I remember well that he was on BBC Radio Berkshire for his regular Mon morning slot but his wife wasn’t there which was unusual. He was asked why she wasn’t and laughed and said that he was a nightmare to be around when he was injured (probably true but even then I thought they’d had a row – I do remember feeling there may be more to it – the presenter was clearly surprised his wife wasn’t there – can’t remember whether it was said or not but she’d gone away.). That month was possibly our best month of the season, 10 pts from 5 games, only losing at Anfield, and even the 0-0 home draw against Blackburn with 10 men which I went to felt like a missed opportunity despite a dreadful performance from Clattenburg and his assistants that day. Then it was announced just after the Blackburn game that Murty was going to get a testimonial after all against Celtic that summer. In the end that was shelved after the relegation and instead he had a testimonial against an ex Reading XI the following summer, 2009. I went to that game and felt sorry for him that so few of the best team he was involved in took part (apparently it was so bad that he was scrambling around last minute to find replacements, which led to Tom Hateley, who’s played in Scotland since, being involved despite never having played a first team game for the club!) Needless to say I now wonder how many of the reasons given for players pulling out were actually genuine.
Well after that Blackburn game Murty was re-instated to the team (I presume it was a set 1 month absence he had away from the club) and TSF said that we barely won a game after all this, and everything fell apart. That was absolutely true, just the Derby win on the final day which was actually the only game we scored in.

^ Just to add, Coppell was accused of being too loyal that season, so given that I thought it was a bold move to completely exclude the captain like he did.
It was interesting that Ranieri was asked yesterday after Leicester's defeat at Swansea if he was being too loyal. Last season the atmosphere at Leicester games reminded me of Reading matches from 2005-2007, this season they just remind me of Reading in 2007-2008, especially as we also had lost a key midfielder in the summer (Sidwell, they lost Kante). Their high point this season in the league was beating Man City at home, like ours was beating Liverpool for the first time (when a mate said to me it was like watching the Reading of the previous season). I hope i'm wrong, but I think they're going down.
Also, o interesting to see that Mansfield are now in the playoffs. It doesn't seem that long ago that they were bottom half! Are you confident of finishing in the top 7 at the end of the season?

I'm never confident of anything with Mansfield Town FC Tom, but it is looking a lot brighter now, and the players are playing well and conceding few goals, it's how they react if they lose a game that is important. I'm quietly confident, but as Mansfield Town FC fan, you get used to being disappointed and kicked while you're down, so I wont get excited til we are safe in the playoffs, and you know that's going to be at the end of the season! To make the playoffs would be great and generate some real excitement, and you never know what might happen. The club deserve some good feeling after the chairman has backed Evans with the players he's brought in.
