I see the magnificent Paul Tisdale has chosen to leave Exeter. For a few weeks (following Arsene Wenger's departure from Arsenal), he was the league's longest serving manager. So, who is now the longest serving boss in the Football League ? 1 point if you know. I'll post the answer tomorrow, if I remember. Eddie Howe can't be far off.

Coventry beat Exeter 3-1 and get back out of League 2 at the first attempt, good to get rid of another "big" side, dont think it will help Mansfield anyway, as I think we will be mid table fodder, with no new signings, and other players leaving I wanted Exeter to go up, partly because of 2 ex Royals (though Coventry had one too) but also because of Exeter losing in the final last year and suspecting that defeat again would mean Tidsdale would leave. His post-match comments implied that while Exeter want him to stay he will be going and the 6 months on his contract was irrelevant. Having just checked he did leave today but if he feels after 12 years in charge he's taken the club as far as he can then I understand his decision to go.
And in answer to Shireblogger the longest serving manager is Jim Bentley.
Can't say i'm surprised by Heckingbottom, did wonder during the season how long he would get, Leeds were struggling so much. Should never have taken the job in the first place.

And Millwall have the longest serving manager in the Championship, although they haven't always been in the division during his tenure.

And what are people's thoughts on the number of black managers in the game?

And what are people's thoughts on the number of black managers in the game? There are a lot of chairman who don't appear to be prepared to give them the rub of the green.

And what are people's thoughts on the number of black managers in the game? Given the disproportionately high number of black players, the number of black mangers looks even more pitiful. It's hard to come to any conclusion other than that would-be black managers face discrimination.

The Premier League will have a form of winter break from 2019-20. Naturally it is being done in a cack-handed way. For two weekends in February there will be only five fixtures, giving the other ten teams a weekend off. The fifth round of the FA Cup will be played in midweek with no replays.

Absolute joke, they'll just go and play in Asia anyway, so there's no actual "break" apart from playing contracted games!

Lower league news, I see Shaw Lane have gone pop, once their sole backer pulled the plug! 2012-2018. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44420569Which has led to the following movement in the Evostick. Vertical movement Vacancy created by Shaw Lane AFC at Step 3 filled by Wimbourne Town, the Step 4 losing play-off finalist with best points per game average. Subsequent vacancy at Step 4 to be filled by promoting FC Romania from the Essex Senior League to the Isthmian South Central as the third placed club at Step 5 with the best points per game average. Lateral movement Fleet to switch from Isthmian League South Central to Southern League South West. Banbury to switch from the Southern League South West to Souhern League Central. Hednesford Town to switch from the Southern League Central to Nothern Premier League Premier Division.

And the irn-bru cup in Scotland gets funnier and funnier, after already having Welsh, Northern Irish and Irish teams in, they are now having 2 non league teams added for this season, think of the travelling costs involved for such small teams, just why!?! Absolute joke, they'll just go and play in Asia anyway, so there's no actual "break" apart from playing contracted games! They have said that clubs will face sanctions if they do this. Of course, unless those sanction include a points deduction or a fine that exceeds the money they make from the trip, it won't be effective. I would suggest resetting offending clubs' points to zero.

But I went to Dundee United vs Linfield last season, and the match had attracted a lot of local interest. With the Scottish leagues so small, and relatively stable, an endless diet of matches against Falkirk, Dunfermline and Greenock Morton would probably become rather repetitive. Thus the chance to compare, for example, Scottish Division One against the best of the English National League is, in my mind, a pretty intriguing idea. Ditto the best of the Scottish Championship against the Northern Irish League champions.

Nah start the 2018/19 thread if you like Frag And that is all well and good Shireb, but it's a Scottish cup, whichever way you look at it, so to have Linfield or Boreham Wood winning it would look a tad daft imo. I don't know how the draw works, but a small part time Scottish club cant afford to fly to Ireland, or even travel to Boreham Wood, so are those teams all away?

To the surprise of nobody, the joint USA-Canada-Mexico bid has won the right to stage the 2026 World Cup. The list off countries to have staged it twice since it was last in England grows again. Mexico will be host for a third time.
