91 Walk Of Life – Dire Straits
Although the album is still massive, this is the only single to make it into the list in 1986. This rock'n roll track reached #2 in the UK and #7 in the US.

90 Through the Barricades – Spandau Ballet
Last appearance for Spandau Ballet in any of these list. One of the best ballads they ever did, I think it is very underrated and forgotten now. This was their last top 10 reaching #7 in the UK, sadly US have already abandoned them.

89 Who Wants To Live Forever - Queen
Taken from one of the movies of the year, this was the main love theme to 'Highlander'. It was the sixth single taken from 'A Kind Of Magic' and reached #24 in the UK.

88 My Favourite Waste of Time – Owen Paul
I must admit I never knew much about Owen Paul. I also thought he looked like a footballer. It turns out that wasn't far from the truth as he was an apprentice for Celtic. I didn't even know he was Scottish. This was one of the big Summer anthems of 1986 and always made you feel good. It reached #3 in the UK.

87 Sweet Freedom - Michael McDonald
Last appearance for Michael Macdonald in the 80s with probably his best song of the 80s. Annoying you cant get it on Spotify. Taken from the movie 'Running Scared', it reached #7 in the Us and #12 in the UK. Whatever happened to Billy Crystal?

86 What You Need – INXS
Now we have INXS's big breakthrough hit in the US, first single released of 'Listen With Thieves' there it was their first top 10 hit reaching #5. Still a cult following in UK but getting closer as it reached #51 over here.

85 (Forever) Live And Die – Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
Like many of the songs in this list, I owned them through compilation albums and I remember this being on Hits 5. 1986 was a really return to form for me for OMD where they have two brilliant singles, neither of which got played in Hit Factor It did pretty well at the time reaching #11 in the UK and #19 in the US.

84 What's the Colour of Money – Hollywood Beyond
Another big summer hit, I remember the Summer of 1986 went on forever, with so many feel good songs. But so many one hit wonders like Owen Paul earlier and now Hollywood Beyond. I think 1986 has more new acts having one big hit and never really following it up than any other year. It reached #7 in the UK.

83 The Honeythief – Hipsway
Now a Scottish band who never really got as big as they deserved. Thai song was as big a hit in the US as UK which was unusual for a band of this kind especially when it wasn't in a movie. It reached #17 in the UK and #19 in the US.

82 I Can't Wait – Stevie Nicks
Before I really knew who Fleetwood Mac were, this was the first song I ever heard by anyone from the band knowingly, of course years later I found out how many songs I actually knew. This was a big hit in the US but really under achieved here. It reached #16 in the US and just #54 here.

81 Hounds Of Love – Kate Bush
I have said before i never really liked Kate Bush and I didn't get into properly till about 15 years ago. I think Futureheads played their part hehe Now there are very few Kate Bush songs I don't appreciate at least. This reached #18 in the UK and yeh I still prefer Futureheads.

80 Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain) – INXS
Another brilliant single from INXS taken from 'Listen Like Thieves'. This is a bit more laidback for them and a bit more '80s' maybe why it wasn't a hit in the US. But it reached #54 in the UK. They are so close to breaking here!!!

79 In Too Deep - Genesis
First of three songs for Genesis in the top 80 taken from the brilliant 'Invisible Touch' album. Although I wasn't that big a fan of Phil Collins I still loved Genesis. This gorgeous ballad was the 2nd single in the US and it reached #3 there but just #19 here, none of the singles of 'Invisible Touch' broke the top 10 here.

78 A Kind Of Magic - Queen
Biggest song for Queen in 1986 and the biggest hit from the album of the same name. It reached #3 in the UK but only #42 in US.

76 The Heart Of Rock & Roll - Huey Lewis & The News
Before their new album was ready, Huey Lewis chose to re-issue this single from 'Sports' to fill the gap after 'The Power Of Love'. That song would eventually be added to the new album 'Fore' as well. It reached #49 in the UK.

76 In the Shape of A Heart – Jackson Browne
This is one of the first songs on this list that people might not know. I realise Jackson Browne was a huge star but this is the only song I really know by him. It was a No Limits powerplay and was played a lot on nightime radio. It reached #70 in the US.

75 All I Need Is a Miracle – Mike & The Mechanics
Another No Limits powerplay and one of my favourite bands of 1986, they have a big song still to come. They had so many great singers to chose from in this band this one voiced by Paul Young of Sad Cafe fame. It peaked #5 in the US but only #53 here but I think it was re-issued. Just love the Steve Winwood style keyboard in this. Doing these lists I realise by music taste was more middle aged at 15 than now! lol

74 Nothin' At All - Heart
A lesser single now taken from the 'Heart' album but although it can't compare to the previous 3 hits, its still a decent track, it reached #10 in the US and #38 in the UK in 1988.

73 Train Of Thought – a-ha
This is my 3rd attempt at posting this. Anyway 3rd hit for a-ha and their biggest of 1986, with another hand drawn animated video. It reached #8 in the UK.

72 Marlene On The Wall – Suzanne Vega
Another big hit for Suzanne Vega, looking back at these chart stats it is really surprising how poorly she did in the US compared to UK with the album only reaching #91 there but #11 in the UK. The single peaked at #21 in the UK. Also never really noticed how pretty she is until this video.
