33 Jimmy Eat World - All The Way (Stay) #1
I think this was only their 2nd number one in my chart but they deserve it,best song they have done for sometime much more like their early sound.

32 Hot Milk - Wide Awake #3
Yes more Hot Milk, they still have one more to come, this is very You Me At Six which is fine by me, the most pop punk single they have done.

31 Middle Kids - Real Thing #3
I almost missed this song and charted it late, one of the classiest indie songs of the year. Not sure how you would describe them, maybe a female fronted Death Cab For Cutie with a hint of shoegaze.

30 Yours Truly - Circles #2
Australia is really strong for pop punk and Yours Truly keep up their reputation , looking more like a Home & Away star than a pop punk rock chick but nothing wrong with a frontwoman who is serious eye candy hehe.

29 Sam Fender - Will We Talk? #3
Probably the best song on his debut album, which let to me calling him the Geordie Bruce Springsteen, this story of young love and hookups probably resonates with many. Just a huge huge song musically and lyrically.

28 Marshmello - Here With Me Feat. CHVRCHES #2
I was quite sceptical about this at first. Chvrches doing a straight tropical house pop song but they do it so well, it became a unexpectedly massive hit in my chart.

27 Mystery Jets - Hospital Radio #2
First of two songs for Mystery Jets in the top 30 and quite an understated return but still very good.

26 Bat For Lashes - Kids In The Dark #2
Her biggest hit ever in my chart and a song that just zoomed up the countdown from a very low entry. Gorgeous 80s dream pop sound and the rest of the album is almost as good. I never expected her to even get a top 40 hit in my chart again never mind this.

25 Enter Shikari - Stop the Clocks #2
Staying in the pop vein after their very successful change of sound on the last record, they release another total banger, the probably the most positive song they have ever done!

24 HAIM - Summer Girl #2
With most of my favourite acts of the 10s struggling a little in 2019, HAIM at least have a very respectable year end finish with this Lou Reed influenced song.

23 Tame Impala - Patience #2
Really looking forward to 'The Slow Rush' as every single so far has been excellent, this is a bit disco but through a psychedelic dream

22 WOOZE - I'll Have What She's Having #1
All but two songs were number ones from now and but only three were number ones with their debut hit in my chart. Steady play on Radio 1 just made me fall in love with song, its a bit like a disco pop Electric Six or some obscure new wave band that only played in London clubs in 1982. Its just so good though.

21 Bombay Bicycle Club - Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You) #1
I was very sad when BBC called it a day, they just had a chart topping album and I saw them live earlier that year so I could not believe it when the internet was hinting that new music was imminent. Then they came back with this, a total BBC song, the indie of tracks like 'Always Like This' with the modern pop of songs like 'Shuffle' brilliant return.

Now we are into my top 20 songs of 2019, we have 17 different acts and one act has 3 songs in the top 20. 10 of these acts have had top 20 year end finishes before
We will continue with
20 Foals - In Degrees #2
What a year Foals have had, this is one of their funkier tracks of the year sounding more like Friendly Fires or BBC than a typical Foals song. They still have two more to come!!

19 Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - In the Capital #1
They scored another number one in 2019 but probably taking advantage of a quieter time of year, its not really up there with their 2018 chart topper. Hope to have more new music from them soon as I just love them.

18 Swimming Girls - 1 2 Many #3
The biggest song non number one of the year is this synth pop epic. It also sounds very like Roxette which is a great thing as well, 'Sleeping In My Car' especially.

17 Starcrawler - No More Pennies #1
In a year where i was going back and discovering 70s rock through the TV show 'Freaks and Geeks', Starcrawler couldn't have come along at a better time. They have another song to come but this Sheryl Crow meets Joan Jett song was my obsession for a month. Also love that this video was filmed mostly in Norwich.

16 Catfish and the Bottlemen - Longshot #1
Finally scoring a top 40 in UK, Catfish were one of the few indie or rock bands to manage this in 2019. I had hoped it was a sign of change but no, just low streams in January.

15 Idlewild - Same Things Twice #1
Noughties indie rock did really well in 2019 for me and Idlewild score their first chart topper in 17 years, thy were also one of the few bands I saw live this year.

14 Feeder - Fear Of Flying #1
Just like Idlewild, Feeder had a big return and this was their first number one in my chart for 16 years.'Tallulah' was a great album and returns them to the rawer sound of the early 00s where they were the UK Foo Fighters.
