13 Weezer - The End Of The Game #1
Weezer haven't waited quite long for this number one but pretty close, 15 year gap in their case, last topping the charts with 'Beverley Hills'. Its been a funny year but c'mon this song is brilliant, just love the fact they are ripping off Van Halen on this.

12 Starcrawler - Hollywood Ending #1
Their first chart topper of 2019 and just slightly my favourite this time with a bit more of a grunge influence sounding like Hole at their very best but still with a bit of classic rock seeping through. This top 20 has been very throwback overall so far.

11 beabadoobee - She Plays Bass #1
The throwback just keeps on coming with one of my favourite new acts of 2019. Just announced in the last 24 hours for the Sound Of 2020 longlist and I think she is a shoein for top 3 place. This is like so many of my favourite 90s songs rolled into one like a mix between The Sundays and Dinosaur Jnr especially. Who knew that 90s indie would still be so cool in 2020. Is 2:53-3:13 the best 20 seconds of any song this year, very possibly.

10 MUNA - Number One Fan #1
This was the first single from their second album 'Saves The World' and the first to get decent airplay on Radio 1. Much more current sounding than their previous singles but just as good.

9 FOALS - Exits #1
Their first single release of 2019 and lead single from 'Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 1', it even managed to spend a week in the top 75. More classic Foals than their other hits this year.

8 Mystery Jets - Screwdriver #1
Every new record Mystery Jets find a new sound and this time they get heavy, yes just as heavy or possibly more so than Bring Me The Horizon. Sad their tour was cancelled this year but I will see them in April.

7 Royal Republic - Anna-Leigh #1
First appearance for this Swedish rock band in my chart but they have been around for sometime but I instantly fell in love with this 80s rock pastiche, it sounds like something from GTA Vice City and great video.

6 Blossoms - Your Girlfriend #1
Another band who have been in my top 10 of the year before and this had to be a chart topper for me, with its very Talking Heads sound and again a brilliant video.

Here we go my top 5 of the year, every song a chart topper, two were debut hits and another was the first chart topper for that act but we will start with an act who are no strangers to the top 10 of the year.
5 Bring Me The Horizon - Medicine #1
The third single taken from 'Amo' and released right at the start of the year, its pretty much the ultimate modern BMTH song combining edm pop and hardcore riffs and of course killer hooks. They still haven't quite become the household names I hoped they would in 2019 but they are getting ever closer.

4 Georgia - About Work The Dancefloor #1
I love Robyn and any singer who is influenced by her and this song just grew on me massively, its even better that she is an instrumentalist first and a singer second. Real shock though that this song did not crossover to the charts, I hope her 2nd album will be a huge hit in January though. These last two songs show how genre is becoming pointless, both these acts came from different directions but have a similar vibe,.

3 Foals - On The Luna #1
My band of the year and this was my favourite song they released from both their albums, I don't know why it more than the others I guess its just a bit of a indie dancefloor banger.

I still can't decide, both these songs deserve to be my song of the year but here goes.
2 Dinosaur Pile Up - Back Foot #1
The best song from this band yet and its a bit of a proper hit, heard it on the radio when I was in the US last week. Like the best of grunge with a bit of Faith No More, it is the kind of song that would have dominated MTV2 and even better that these guys are from Leeds. This type of music isn't supposed to exist anymore and certainly not to be done this well. Brilliant video as well.

Often your song of the year, is emotional or just about a moment that something changed for you. That moment was when the Daniel P Carter show started with this song, it just blew me away from the moment I heard it. Who are these guys?? This is brilliant. And this was their debut single.
***********Number 1 Hot Milk - Awful Ever After #1*******************
Sounding like the love child of Paramore and Bring Me The Horizon they could only be a rock band from 2019. The mix of male and female vocals is done so well and they have released a string of brilliant songs in 2019 including my current New Year number one. Hot Milk are from Manchester and were runnerups in Rock Sounds Best British Newcomer awards and they still haven't released an album. They are also top of my must see live list!

I finally made it through this list - tried to like songs along the way but train wifi isn't the best so I may have missed a few. Mystery Jets and Royal Republic my faves from your top 10.
Agreed with you about the song of the year often having some emotional meaning beyond just being a great song - deciding my top 10 right now and one of the frontrunners definitely fits that mould.
