I think I was a bit young to appreciate it as at the time, but it certainly has sat with me and in the general public’s mind I’d say - the sign of an enduring, genuine deserving million seller.
These days I love it.

I have a soft spot for the Britney version with her baby-prostitute verses, but then I've never been one for a classy music taste.
This one is good. Not her best by any means but another solid 8/10 Rihanna banger that she could just churn out every other month it seemed at the time. I remember she made a comment I think in some interview that 'so much of what is on the radio sounds the same' and all I could think was 'well, given it's you every second song on commercial radio, you're quite right!'

I don't think modern music is getting worse per say, we are just all getting older and I imagine not many of us are the main target audience of top 40 these days. The fact we don't like much if it means they probably are quite accurate with what they are producing!
Anyhoo, agree with ShireBlogger on the Sia one. The epitome of a 'made-for-spotify' hit, but not in the slightest exciting.

Love this one. Not her best and indeed reasonably generic but also I think it is quite a strong example of this genre and time.

I`m actually quite surprised that Freak Like Me won and About You Know came second...I would have thought Push The Button and Too Lost In You would`ve been the top two. Pretty even results though - only 2 points separating all 12 is pretty consistent.
Shireblogger cheers for hosting!

08 About You Now 08 Denial 08 Freak Like Me 09 Hole In The Head 05 In The Middle 06 Overload 08 Push The Button 08 Red Dress 06 Round Round 08 Run For Cover 08 Stronger 09 Too Lost In You
Very generic scores, apologies! I find the majority of their big ones to be good, solid pop tracks. Not enough to push it above that but also rarely too below a 8/10.

About A Girl did much worse than I’d have thought

OK that was a much tougher vote for me - there are 12 great singles there. And one that I refuse to acknowledge existence of. Can’t possibly imagine which one

Perfect amount for me. 6 great tracks, one decent and the other six, whilst not bad, I can certainly live without!

Not surprised with the first five qualifiers - all brilliant. Wasn’t expecting In The Middle, however, thought Change might have gone through or New Year. Poor Follow Me Home with no votes - it’s not that bad! . Thank you Shireblogger . Looking forward to the next round. I was very close to voting for Follow Me Home. I really like it, though a single it was not. Boo for Easy. Tacky lyrics but by god that’s a killer chorus. Didn’t think it would go through, mind.

Very happy with the top six though, two from the 90s, two from the 00s and one each from the 80s and earlier seems about right. Not really. The sixties was the era where girl groups were ahead of the game, fronting up some of the best pop songs ever written, and with stellar performances that fit their songs perfectly. And when they sometimes only had one shot at the recording, without being able to rely on autotune.
The idea that almost nobody from the sixties is as worthy as, say, Girls Aloud, a group whose premise is that personality and musical ability matters so little that you can literally drag people from the street and plug them into the industry machine, is just wrong.
Seems about right as in spread mainly over the decades where the majority of posters were growing up and more into a lot of these bands. Obviously what any individual would consider is the best era is completely a matter of taste.

Exactly the one I was meaning!
Never Gonna Dance Again from Change and Conversations Over or Whatever Makes You Happy from Three I also find much stronger than some of what they released.

I do think a lot of the album tracks, particular from the third one onwards, were much better than their typical third or fourth releases.

Very happy with the top six though, two from the 90s, two from the 00s and one each from the 80s and earlier seems about right. Sugababes being consistently good probably secured them the win, and perhaps being a bit less pop that Spice Girls and Girls Aloud gives them a bit more mass appeal.
Thanks very much for this Shireblogger, been a great read.

It's a shame that in the absence of The Bangles winning that The Supremes couldn't have done so instead. But being marked down so low by six posters suggests a possibility that their timeless music was just too old for some of Haven's posters..? Good point here. I don’t think I had them top twenty from memory. I do quite like the big hits but being a kid of the nineties and a teenager in the 00s I guess they were just a bit too before my time, so sadly the likes of Mis-teeq and co beat them with me. Not something I’ll shout about!

All of the Haven Top 15 appeared on at least half of the personal Top 20s, so I am confident we have a majority consensus. Where will your favourites end up ? And, given the shape of the scores so far, does anybody want to guess the Top 3, in order ? Quickly, I’d think Spice Girls first but no idea for the other two. I’d assume Sugababes and Girls Aloud but that’s from a very poptastic perspective!

PCD probably wouldn't have scored so high with me if it weren't for the release of React earlier in the year To be fair to them I’d say they have around ten singles that are of varying degrees of good for me.

Surprised at Little Mix. Again though, I don’t think many of us are in their target age range so it’s hard to get excited about them compared to what I may have done had they been in the 90s.
