I was watching the Only Fools & Horses feature length episode "Miami Twice" on dvd recently and suddenly my ears went up when I heard this song in the background. To be perfectly honest, I don't think any radio stations have actually played this song since it charted at No.17 in 1991? Or have they??

Mansun had a character called Mavis on their Attack Of The Grey Lantern album. She was mentioned in Stripper Vicar and even the last track on the album was called Dark Mavis, which was also the name of the correspondent you could write to for fanclub and mailing list information on Mansun back then I think. Wondered if that person was real or whether they just made them up.

Apart from Robbie Williams' cover of their song "She's The One", I feel like it would be a rarity to hear any World Party played on radio these days, and this got into the top 20 in 1993. I first heard it on Now 24.

The Manics released 2 singles on the same day in 2001, one was So Why So Sad which hit No.8, and the other was this one which hit No.9 yet seems to be overlooked often.

And of course I've had this one in my head lately, it was a No.39 hit in 1996 I think and it's still as relevant now as it was then:

I saw Ida Maria live too, and VV Brown was indeed supporting. This was the Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh in 2009. Met Ida afterwards, got my album signed and will never forget the big hug she gave me too. Sadly, she never released another album again in this country, her next two albums were only released in her native Norway. It's funny I was only recently thinking about songs that you don't really hear much of recently, and this was one of the ones I thought of.
I don't know if this does still get play, or even if Absolute Radio plays it, but it's not one I hear very often though.

I loved that Auteurs song, and I think it is one of the overlooked Britpop gems of that time. I also don't get why this band weren't as big as they should have been, although recently I picked up their "Drink Me" album on vinyl for just 99p in my local Oxfam

It's a shame that The Smiths' original only got an international single release years ago, as I think that would have been a better choice of single than "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish" but then they had already split by that time. Mark Ronson's version was okish, but didn't really do much for me compared to the original.

Iglu & Hartly - In This City
I always misheard it as "I've got nothin' but Duff beer in this city"
When the actual lyric is "I've got nothing to fear in this city".

By The Way was their last great album. I don't know why they decided to make Stadium Arcadium a double album, the whole thing just dragged on and I started to lose interest at that point.

Embrace are still together and have been recording a new album this year, just a question of when the hell they're putting it out. I love Nature's Law and I actually thought it was going to No.1 as it was outselling Ne-Yo and then I read that a certain amount of sales figures had went missing that week, denying them of the top spot.

Corinne stepped out of the spotlight for a while because her husband, Jason Rae (who was a member of The Haggis Horns) died in 2008. And then she came back 2 years after with 2nd album "The Sea" which hit the top 5, but didn't sell as well as her 1st.

Speed Of Sound was basically a rehashing of Clocks. Same tune, different lyrics. This is definitely where they started to go downhill, very much like U2 have. I and many others I know all agree that U2 haven't made a good album since Achtung Baby, and they definitely should have stopped long ago.
