And 3 of the 4 3rd place teams that progressed from the group stage are in the quarter finals.

I do kind of feel, we are inviting pressure, so happy we are 1-0 up, but it's just one set piece, one mistake, or one move from Ukraine and that lead could be gone. I dont feel we are pressing enough, and I certainly dont feel comfortable. I hope they prove me wrong and get that 2nd goal early in the 2nd half, but for now, I'm a little nervous.

Yeah brilliant! Two early 2nd half goals killed the game. I wasn't unhappy, just felt we sat back a bit in that 1st half. Bring on Denmark, just got to make sure we aren't over confident!

Statement from Downing Street - "Congratulations to England on beating Ukraine 4-0. Special congratulations to player-manager Boris Johnson for his seven goals".

Good game by England, I think they could easily beat Denmark on Wednesday with a huge England crowd behind them, going to be tough if they meet Italy in the final, unless Spain beat them, we might stand a chance, as I didn't think Spain were at their best from 10 years ago.

It could easy have been a riot of goals but a comfortable solid performance.
Best player for me has to be Luke Shaw - no doubt Mourinho will still have something to moan about him.

Harry Maguire is the 16th England (men's) player to score at more than one major tournament.
The other 15:
Tom Finney - 1954, 1958 Bobby Charlton - 1962, 1966, 1968 Geoff Hurst - 1966, 1968, 1970 Martin Peters - 1966, 1970 Bryan Robson - 1982, 1988 Gary Lineker - 1986, 1990 David Platt - 1990, 1992 Alan Shearer - 1996, 1998, 2000 Paul Scholes - 1998, 2000, 2004 Michael Owen - 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 David Beckham - 1998, 2002, 2006 Steven Gerrard - 2004, 2006, 2010 Wayne Rooney - 2004, 2012, 2014, 2016 Daniel Sturridge - 2014, 2016 Harry Kane - 2018, 2020
Jordan Henderson is the 62nd player to score for England (not including own goals) at a major tournament.
England's all-time top scorers at major tournaments:
1. Gary Lineker 10 2. Alan Shearer 9 2. Harry Kane 9 4. Wayne Rooney 7 5. Geoff Hurst 6 5. Michael Owen 6 7. Bobby Charlton 5 8. David Platt 4 8. Steven Gerrard 4
7 players on 3 goals

Harry Kane just one goal away from tying with the great (keep it in your pants) Gary Linekar? Brilliant!

It could easy have been a riot of goals but a comfortable solid performance. Best player for me has to be Luke Shaw - no doubt Mourinho will still have something to moan about him. It was very disrespectful of Luke Shaw to stalk Jose Mourinho to his new city and put in a Man Of The Match performance with two assists in a Euros quarter-final.
Better still, as a Liverpool fan him playing so well is further evidence that towards the end of his management career Sir Alex Ferguson's judgement of character being highly critical of his abilities was as flawed as his criticism of future Liverpool Premier League winning captain Jordan Henderson, who gave me the biggest highlight of the match with his first England goal.

Shaw wasn't tested defensively, there's no doubt he puts in a great cross or a great set piece, but the amount of times he received the ball and passed it backwards was annoying. Never once did he try and beat his man, or play a 1-2. I'm really pleased for him after a bad injury, but I'm sure even he will admit he was not fit to play a few years ago. It's what I like about Southgate is that he is able to get the best out of each player and bring it together to work. Denmark will be a test though, dont underestimate them.

Denmark is England's toughest game so far. They're much better than Germany. We can ignore their first 2 games for obvious reasons and they have a huge amount of momentum and emotion behind them.

Two terrific semis in prospect.
Whoever progresses it should make for a very good final too.

EURO FACT OF THE DAY: 13 of the 15 previous editions of the European Championship have featured at least one team in the final four that didn't qualify for the previous World Cup. The only tournaments that didn't were 1960 and 2012. 14 out of 16 now.
